  1. Avoid like the plague. Incompetent and irresponsible - I would not go there any more if somebody paid me! Called out Skoda Assist who diagnosed a diesel leak damaging a component. They could not find the leak and did not replace the component properly resulting in two other components getting damage over time. Two more trips to them and still no result over this 6 month period. During all this time nobody ever returned my 10 calls when I could not get through to the right person. Took the car to Progress Northampton who diagnosed the faulty components and found the leak and fixed all the problems - would not go anywhere else. Don't say you have not been warned!
  2. The DPF regen kills the mpg on my GII (the engine is economical, but the blasted regen!). If I were to look at a new car to buy now for economy, I would look at the new ford fiesta econetic, it did 108mpg in the '2012 mpg marathon' i.e. well above manufacturer's quoted figures. However it uses a separate pouch for DPF burning which VW did used to do!
  3. The quoted mpg figures are: Fuel consumption - Urban 68.9 Fuel consumption - Extra urban 94.2 Fuel consumption - Combined 83.1 I don't expect to achieve the same figures, however I also do not expect to achieve urban figures when my driving falls in the range of mixed and extra urban! At a minimum I would expect combined figure of 83.1 and with all my previous cars the figures I achieved were more closer to the quoted figures. (Assume tyre pressures, fuel quality, weather conditions, summer/winter fuel etc are all taken care off). Someone on this forum had posted a link to a European site for tank-to-tank l/km and the best anyone had achieved on a tank was around 85mpg. Now the winter is around the corner, the mpg will get worse. I won't be looking for a new car yet, still have to pay off this one! When I do, I will probably look into electric cars with a 'John Bedini' battery charger capability first...
  4. I am extremely disappointed with my GII's mpg. I do a combination of country roads with motorway driving and currently at 12K miles on the clock. The best I managed to get is 74mpg (tank to tank, not computer display), late 60s, early 70s is the average I get. The dealer has checked the car out and nothing wrong with it. My old 02 plate Astra 1.7DTI did 65mpg on average (book stated 72mpg for urban). It is unlikely my next car will be from VW stable...

  6. HonestJohn has real mpg site with users submitting their mpg http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/RealMpg/Results?manufacturer=skoda
  7. The test does not reflect the real running of the car i.e. when they are doing the test the car is probably not doing a 'regen' for the bloody DPF! The current official figures are at best misleading and at worst outright lie! I got better MPG out of my old astra than the GII (65-72MPG). I have listened to the various advice on these forums and I still can't do more than 65MPG! (I do about 10 miles on country roads and 20 miles on motorway). Used V-power diesel for less soot, experimented with various driving styles including never drop RPM below 2K unless car is coasting and I am extremely disappointed as the MAIN reason for buying the car was for economy. I think the main problem is with the ECU software which decides how and when to 'regen' wasting fuel. I do the motorway trip on 2500rpm and just before I reach home on the country roads, it decides to 'regen' - the garage is filled with smell of diesel! I will have the car checked out at 10K service, however I am sure they will find nothing wrong with it... The car itself is great and lovely to drive with the engine purring most of the time. I wish VW will come out and admit the official figures are a fib of someone's imagination!
  8. Some guy in Israel have come up with this, is it correct? Fuel gauge Skoda Fabia's fuel gauge on dashboard As we know from manual, full tank is 45 liters and last two is below 7 liters (low fuel turns on with beep). Using that and recordings I made, we have the rules: - first one is 11 liters - next big bricks each of 5 liters - small ones before last two are ~1 liter each - last two about 3 liters each
  9. Wayside Milton Keynes offered me the flexible servicing (15K or 18 months) - I will take it up on the miles I am doing
  10. Recently got my Greenline II from them and had a great service from the salesman Keith - I would recommend them anytime. No experience of servicing yet...
  11. I would go up the dealer management chain and let them know exactly how I feel and that I am getting a really bad service from this particular salesperson!
  12. These guys do a tuning box... http://www.tdi-tuning.co.uk CRTD2 Diesel Tuning Box - Skoda Fabia 1.2 TDI CR 74 Bhp / 75 PS / 55 Kw
  13. For more MPG I have always added MotorSilk friction reducer to the engine (after engine bedding) - it does what it says on the tin. I have also injected ozone through the air intake and seen more MPG. Anyone has any experiences with other brands of friction reducers?
  14. An ecu remap would probably invalidate your warranty and you need to inform your insurance company. I used to drive a remapped car and it was my style of driving that gave me extra mpg, the remap gave me more power. It also put more 'pressure' on the turbo and the clutch, with the clutch going at 150K. I don't think it is worth doing on these models.
