  1. I have a Superb 150 bhp diesel DSG estate with factory fit towbar. I tow a Bailey Pageant coming in at 1420kg MPTLM. Unfortunately I have only managed just over 100 miles ordinance getting the car 5 weeks ago but initial impressions look good. We had a weekend away in deepest darkest Lincolnshire so no hills were involved, but we covered a full mix of roads from motorways to single track lanes and the car handled them all well. My previous tow car was a 130 bhp diesel DSG Octavia. The caravan was up to the towing limit of that car, but it still towed very well. The 150 didn't feel underpowered at all, but all the reviews I read said that the 150 was well suited to towing. Can't compare to 190 though. One final note, the factory fit towbar is fab, and reversing camera makes hitching up a doddle.
  2. I too will be interested in the stability and power. I have on order a 150bhp SEL Exec Estate, and collected on Saturday a new to us Bailey caravan with a MTPLM of 1425kg. I collected this with my 2010 Octavia 2.0Tdi PD (van not loaded), and it was stable and pulled well even though it is 150kg heavier than my old van. I do have spring assisters fitted though - the blue springs that fit inside the standard road spring. Would be interested to know if similar assisters are available, or would be needed.
  3. Thanks for the replies, I need the variable floor to create a nearly flat load area as the car is sometimes used for large items at work (company car). In an ideal world, the rear seat squabs would be removable like the Ocavia so the load are is completely flat, but we can't have everything! If the variable floor wasn't there, the step to the rear seat backrests would be a right pain. I agree though, you do reduce the overall boot height. This is why I'd like to know if and how the vari-floor can be removed if needed. I would have thought somebody would have put a demo on Youtube by know but I can't find anything. Likewise the folding passenger seat hopefully will be great as I occasionally have to transport 3m tubes. At the moment I have to wind the passenger seat right back - not ideal.
  4. Greetings all. I have taken the plunge and ordered a nice shiny new Superb III SEL Exec (with a few options) to replace my 6 year old Octavia Elegance. I just have a couple of question for anyone with either/or the folding passenger seat and the variable boot floor. Folding seat - Is this just like a standard manual seat with the usual lumber and back adjustments, or is it a fixed back that folds? Or does it look any different to a standard seat? I have trawled the internet, and can't find any good images or information. Variable boot floor - I currently have this on my Octy, and it can be removed if a deeper space is needed in the boot. This does leave a couple of metal fixing lugs sticking out of the wheel arch in the boot, and the side supports in place. On the new Superb, can the variable floor be removed if needed, and does it leave any lugs or clips behind? Any photos would help, to make sure I've made the right choices with the options. Thanks, Paul.
  5. Hi all, I'm a newbie round here, so please be gentle. After many years of driving a company van, I will shortly be getting a company car. After much searching and asking advice, I've decided on a newish Octavia (up to 2 years old max). We haven't decided yet, or rather the accountant hasn't, whether the company will buy the car or I will get paid enough to cover finance, in my salary. My question is which engine option to go for. We will probably be buying a caravan late this year or early next, so need to make sure the new car will be able to tow it. The options available, all diesel, are 1.6CR, 1.9PD or 2.0PD. I understand that on paper the 1.6CR and 1.9PD have the same performance figures, but does the smaller newer engine have enough grunt to drag a caravan up hill and down dale. I am trying to avoid the 2 litre PD diesel as the emissions are rather high, so tax would be high (I have a fuel card). Mileage, I do 15 to 20k per year, mainly A & B roads, but with a few good motorway runs occasionally. Sorry for the rambling post but I don't know what to go for, so I thought the best thing is to ask the collective for advice.
