  1. I changed from Swing to Columbus within a couple of weeks of buying my car. I bought a nearly new Columbus off the internet and had it fitted at the local Skoda garage at very reasonable cost. I had read on here that coding is not always needed but whether they did or not I cannot say. For me it was worth the cost to have it correctly installed at the Skoda garage. In my opinion it's very worthwhile swap and works fine even though its loaded with W Europe and I'm using a DVD when in E Europe. Don't forget, if you do fit a Columbus you will need to buy a new surround to make it fit. http://www.skodaparts.com/product/superb-satnav-sorround-2008-2012-49990
  2. Owning a V6 may not be as painful as you think, unless of course you have a very high annual road tax. I bought my pre-FL model new in 2013 and, because I have a low annual mileage, fuel consumption was not a major issue for me. I have however made a couple of long journeys recently and the computer tells me fuel consumption is between 8-9 litres/100kms (31-35 mpg). I know the fuel computer may not be wholly accurate but I'm happy with that so please don't disillusion me. The V6 is a comfortable, quiet, long distance cruiser that handles reasonably well and is equally at home pottering around town. Fuel consumption around town? I don't even look but if a V6 suits your circumstances and you think it represents value for money then it's worthy of consideration.
  3. There is an EU directive which requires VAT to be paid in the country of destination on all imported "new means of transport", which will include motor vehicles taken into use less than 6 months ago and with less than 6000kms. There are provisions to export new private motor vehicles without VAT from the UK (and elsewhere) so that VAT can be paid in the destination country. The rules and procedures are quite complex though but an internet search will explain the detail.
  4. I've had similar small scratches from a watch strap. A windscreen replacement company took the scratches out in seconds using 3M Finesse-it light cut compound. I guess any similar light cutting compound will do. I've seen white toothpaste recommended as a scratch remover on the internet but I was warned against it because it has too much grit in it. Good enough for our teeth but not our windscreens
  5. If you have a 12v socket in the boot can you not exit the cable at the top or bottom corners of the tailgate? On the saloon you can at the top corners of the boot lid without pinching the cable. I have my CTEK connected to the battery in the boot. I run the cable out at the top corner of the boot lid and lock the car.
  6. Short answer is yes. This is from CTEKs FAQs Answer:CTEK’s charger will not harm sensitive electronic equipment and the battery does not need to be disconnected from the vehicle. Most vehicle manufactures has a set limit of 16V, to not harm the vehicles electronic equipment. CTEK’s battery chargers do not cross this limit and charges with a very clean and controlled current. The only function close to 16V is Recond/Boost but not over it. If the manufacture gives a warming against high currents and you are uncertain about a specific level, disconnect the battery anyway. I have used a CTEK on a number of different vehicles left unused for several weeks at a time and have never disconnected a battery. I have used both the CTEK eyelet connectors connected direct to the battery terminals and their spring connectors connected to engine compartment charging points. My Superb currently has a CTEK connected directly to the battery and works fine .
  7. Marekczek, just to say my Columbus works fine with V10 East on DVD and I have the same Columbus version as you with SW 5230. I currently have V9 West on the HDD and was planning to load V10 East on the HDD and buy a V10 West DVD for when I might need it. Seems like i'd better leave things as they are. Hope you get your Columbus sorted.
  8. Thanks Too Tall. I'll get it checked on VCDS and use Eddie-NL's helpful list to see if it can be activated. It's not a big deal but if it's there I might as well use it. Interesting though that some Superbs are compatible and others aren't. I guess there's some logic to it somewhere  Maybe the MY or engine variant determines whether or not the car is built with a compatible brake module.
  9. How can I tell whether my car has a compatible brake module to enable HHC? Is it needed to connect to VCDS to find out or are certain engine variants compatible and others not? I'll be grateful for any clarification.
  10. ........so there will be at least two. Shouldn't be too difficult to spot
  11. How are you getting on with your 225/50 R17 tyres? They are 3.5% over the recommended diameter so just wondering if you've had any issues with touching the wheel arch or suspension. I'm interested to know in case I decide to go slightly oversize with winter tyres myself.
  12. Thanks for your replies but I'm still trying to find the OEM rim width, is it 7.5" or 8" x 18". You're right of course Nathanio about the tyre size 225/40 which could be fitted to either rim size.
  13. Can anyone please tell me the exact dimensions of 18" wheels fitted to a 3.6 4x4. I'd like to know the rim width and offset (ET)? Thanks.
