  1. Purchased the Thule 127cm aerobars and the 757 footpacks (feet?) and fit perfectly. The rear (narrower rails) one still has plenty of adjustment before either of the feet run up against the groove on the underside of the bars.
  2. Thanks for that Swirly. Yes, the distance is fixed by the rails; what I meant is, on the bars, themselves, what is the minimum distance achieveable between the clamps; if this is greater than that of the rails then obviously will not work. If it is significantly less, then there's enough scope for adjustment. Your rail clamps seem to be very "deep" relative to the bars - from the front-on photo it looks like there's around 60-65% of the bar length between the ends of the 2 clamps, which would probably lead to the groove not being sufficiently deep on the 127s. I measure the rails inner surfaces being 91cm apart at the narrowest (rear) and 97cm at the widest (front). I've an old pair of 108s from previous car lying around and their 'clamp groove' is about 20cm each side. Assuming that all bars have 20cm groove each side, then the - 118s have 78cm minimum spacing - 127s have 87cm minumum spacing - which only leaves 2cm each side for the clamp to extend past the inside of the rails which is a bit tight. Might just have to bite the bullet for 118s.Now to decide do I fork out for the blacks or settle for silver......
  3. joining in here also; need roofbars in time to collect xmas tree in a few weeks oh and to bring bikes around the place too, but priorities eh Was considering the 127cm bars to space out 4 bikes a touch, but only concern is that posted by irvworth that the rear bars are narrower spacing and the clamps may run into the end of the adjustment channel underneath the bars. Presume I could cut out a cm or so if need be but would prefer not to have to do so - Was looking to get the thule 710400 raised rail feet and the wingbars (711320) Would anyone please be able to tell me the minimum distance that the feet can be apart (i.e. how far in can each clamp slide towards the centre of the bars?) Many thanks Ken (MkIII octi combi, 2020 pre mk4)
  4. the boot i can accept as being permapowered, for that reason. the one up front - nope. similarly, (thankfully not an issue for me) I can't see the reason for not having lights auto-on/off with the ignition also. The amount of people who seem to forget to turn on their lights is mindboggling.
  5. 12v sockets switched off by ignition. Can't for the life of me understand why this is not implemented. I can't think of any reasons why these would need to be left on when the ignition is off.
  6. what's on the spare? if that's the same and nearly new could that go onto the car with the brand new one and the "older" (7mm) new one go into the boot? Then you'd have 2 "new" tyres on together
  7. Collecting tomorrow - dealer confirmed it's on 1 year/15k km service interval. Does this add anything to the decision? thanks
  8. I'll be keeping it for 3 years of PCP anyway, and the thought process behind it was to probably "buy the 3 year old car for 10k gmfv euro" afterwards. Typically do around 12k km a year or so. I'll check the paperwork for the PCP when I sign it, and see if it has to be done by date or by distance, thanks
  9. Apologies if wrong place to post this, I searched and didn't find any previous topics similar. I'm about to take delivery of an new MK3 Octavia combi this week on PCP. One of the conditions I understand is that it must be serviced at a Skoda dealership, at the manufacturer interval. Skoda Ireland have a 3 year plan for new cars https://skodaserviceplans.ie/your-plan (if curious to see what it entails and it asks for a reg, our format is e.g 202-D-123) which would cost me €467, which can be paid upfront, or monthly at €12.99 a month. Current service price I can find from one dealer is €149 (https://www.msl.ie/en/skoda/service/fixed-price-servicing), so comparable to 1/3 of the 3 service price, but of course who knows what the single price will be in 2 or 3 years anyway. So my question is, has anyone else been offered and accepted a similar service plan, and were they happy with it, or, if offered and turned it down, can you say why? Many thanks
  10. Am also in the search for rear seat covers to protect from the 2 kids highback boosters I have - the existing car is marked from them and since I've just ordered a brand new Combi would rather have these from close to the get-go. Most I've seen on ebay/amazon etc dont' seem to have have split rear seats to allow dropping of one side for longer load carrying - anyone seen these? thanks
  11. Not that ye missed me much, had an 07 Octavia back around 2011, 2012. Sold it cos it was the 1.4 petrol, which wouldn't pull you out of bed, and were heading to france on a family holiday, so was terrified at the thoughts of trying to lug us and 100+bottles of wine around france with the engine screaming in protest..... Traded it in for an 08 Santa Fe to do that journey in early 2013. Never really liked it - had to replace clutch and flywheel, aircon compressor after about 2 or 3 years, so after that investment decided to keep it as long as possible to get at least some sort of value out of it. On Wednesday I placed the order for a brand new Octavia Combi "Soleil" 1.0tsi, one of the last few in Ireland before the next gen comes out here in September. Was limited in colors to black, silver or white - chose black. Should be collecting mid-end next week. So excited already. Have never had a brand new car before. Test drove the 1.0 on Tuesday and surprised at how responsive it was for a 1litre (115hp - the 1.4 i had was 75hp!). Everything seemed so familiar, even from 7 years ago. It's good to be home!
  12. Glad I could help. To be honest I'm surprised it worked without the 12v supply at all! I ran my 12v from the fuseboard (just plugged a spade connector into a constant 12v, via an inline fuse), under the steeringwheel, to the pasenger footwell and then just pushed it up under the trim all the way to the boot to the relay. Hardest part was trying to get it from the rear passenger footwell into the boot, to route the cable. Oh wait - I think i understand - you plugged your towing socket directly into those wires, without the relay in place at all? One thing the relay also gives you besides low-loaded switching, is the audible buzzer on turn indication, which I believe is a legal requirement when towing, so you can identify that the trailer indicators work. It's annoying as f*ck though, esp as I only use mine for a bike rack!
  13. Right, have the documentation. It says (Skoda Octavia Hatchback 2004- ): Lights...........Vehicle Wire Colours ------------------------------------------- LH Flasher.......Black/white FogLight.........Blue/Yellow RH Flasher.......Green/Blue RH SideLight.....Grey/Yellow Brake Light......White/Black LH SideLight.....Grey/Mauve Reverse..........Black/Blue These matched exactly to my car, but there's no guarantee they'll match yours of course. But it should be very simple to trace them back from the lights to see what colours they are, if not as above.
  14. I installed a bypass relay to my 07 hatch and the wiring was trivial. The instructions on the relay told me the colours i needed to splice into, it (the document) was octavia specific. Got the towbar and kit from PFJones. I'll have a look when I get home and see if I can find the document and post the colours.
  15. Electrics done, no smoke or bangs, all good. I went through the dashboard to the fuse panel rather than going to the battery box; it looked much simpler! Otherwise it was just a question of finding the best way to route the 12v cable from the boot to the front of the car, I didn't really want to pull all the trim off if I could avoid it, and luckily I managed OK. Happy days. Now to build the bike carrier!
