  1. Driving today in the rain with the lights on, noticed the illuminated speedo and rev counter needles were flickering on and off. the back ground light seemed fine, fiddled with the dimmer control , didnt make any diference, strange as it was only the two needles going on and off, anyone else had this? aany suggestions what it is?
  2. The local skoda garage here , told me to top up with that oil if need be as thats what they put in the vrs at servicing, however reading the manual, that oils not the spec, for fixed servicing, so went and asked the vw garage they said, dont use longlife oil, use the vw pd oil, so looks like any one, whos had there vrs serviced at this garage has probably got the wrong oil in it, phoned a few other skoda garages at the time and all said use pd oil. reckon as soon as the customers out of sight ,out comes the Asda sunflower oil .to save a few bob!
  3. Thanks for your advice chris, looks like Irvine Skoda in Bridgwater, are good dealer, guess ill give them a go, couldnt find anything about Turners, or williams on the reviews.
  4. Can anyone out there recomend a really good Skoda dealer for servicing around Bath, Bristol area? the garage i purchased the car from, [ dont think it would be correct to name them] managed to get oil on the seats, so wasnt impressed, also told me to top up with castrol Longlife oil which seems the incorrect oil for the car as its on fixed servicing, they said thats what they use, seems strange, when it sais otherwise in the manual. the local vw garage said use there pd oil which is the correct spec, dealers around here are TURNERS OF Earlstoke in Devizes? anyone used there service dept?, and Williams in Bristol?, again has anyone used them? if theres any really good dealers slightly further affield then maybe i should travel to those reading these threads there seem to be quite a few Abissmal skoda dealers out there, id sooner pay a bit more and have a really thourough job done the car will be due for its first service next march what should i expect to pay? the car will have done around 7000 miles by then so guess it will be the 12 monthly service any advice appreciated any phone numbers of the good garages service depts appreciated
  5. funny my main dealer told me not to bother running it in.! also told me not to worry about the oil level [lucky I decided to check that one my self] and it went in for that gear stick rattle in neutral, and came back with oily marks on the seats. to say i was ****ed off would be an understatement. 12 grand for a car and all that ****, any one reccomend a good main dealer in the south west?
  6. Hi Yella fella, been into Bikes all my life, and for 7 grand you can get 150 mph, saw the vrs and had a test drive, only car ive ever driven, that kinda reminded me of a bike ie brilliant fun, reckon its cracking value, for 12 grand.to me the VRS isnt really about 0 to 60, brilliant mid range Grunt, and pulls like a train, think this thing certainly surprises a lot of other cars out there. now im nearing my 100th birthday, reckon when i pile through that hedge its gonna be less painfull in the Skoda.
  7. I can deactivate the passenger air bag, mine no problem, but the third airbag, THE WIFE, starts making whining noises, everytime i hit the go-stick accused me of driving like a maniac since i bought the VRS!
  8. Thanks for your advice again tom, much appreciated, Ive reached the conclusion I love that car too much, even the wifes complaining , the time i spend messing around with it, she nearly caught me polishing that stainless steel silencer. HOW SAD IS THAT?I think i need counselling.
  9. Tom,Asked my garage to check the oil level when the car was in, having my gearstick looked at, which was vibrating in neutral ,after collecting the car, told me they topped it up , when i checked it it was just above the upper Kink on the Dipstick, where it straightens out, right on that very faint line, you can see on the dipstick. is that correct or is it overfilled slightly
  10. Thanks Aixlad, is the oil filter clipped on somehow? as opposed to screw on type? Reading your advice , do you mean the oil filter has a hex nut welded onto it, my vw polo has this on it, so i assume it screws on?notice you got a triumph, used to have the standard thunderbird, that was a cracking engine that triple, had a 1000 Fazer but only got the 600 fazer now sold the 1000 to fund the VRS.
  11. Looking down in the Engine Bay, been trying to find where the oil filter is? cant spot it anywhere? is it a black canister type ? seem to remember on here somewhere there was an article on oil changing? said the oil filter was a clip on type thing, seems strange ive never come accross one like that before, maybe ive read it wrong, how difficult is changing your own oil and filter on the VRS? reckon ill attempt it when the warranty runs out.
  12. Thanks tom, was your first service at 10000 miles?, noticed my oil looks filthy after only 3800 miles, maybe thats a characteristic of a diesel engine? 10000 miles seems a long time for oil?in my old polo, the oil always looked relatively clean, at thought that car was nippy, until i drove the VRS!
  13. 14. can someone advise me of the correct oil level on the VRS, noticed a faint line on the dipstick, about 8mm above the shaded area, where the dipstick straightens from the kinked bit, is that the maximum mark? also another stupid question but should it be checked when the engine is hot, doesnt mention the VRS in the handbook, just the smaller petrol engined skodas, noticed one of those had to be checked with the engine cold? never heard of that on a car before. do these engines stop burning oil? reckons mines burned around 1 litre in 3800 miles, seems to be using a little less now,
