  1. Thanks to you all for your advice, my main concern was that if there was a fault with the governor it could damage the engine when they do the emissions test, I was trying to find out at what rpm the engine should be limited to, probably me being a bit paranoid. thanks again for the advice.
  2. Hi does any member know RPM that the governor should cut in to protect the engine on my 2008 1.4TDi PD car, the reason I ask is that I was talking to a mechanic at my local garage where I take it for the MOT and he said that the way they test the emissions is to get the car to running temperature and the floor the accelerator until the governor cuts in to limit the top engine rpm, this is done 3 times and a average is taken of the 3 readings, and he recommended giving the car good revving before the MOT to get rid of the rubbish as I only do short journeys, now I have tried revving the engine to about 5000rpm which is well into the red and I have not noticed any limiting, so when is this governor meant to cut in to protect the engine??
  3. Thanks for your replies, I thought 5years might be pushing it a bit so I will change it at 4 years.
  4. Hi I know the subject of timing belt change intervals has been covered many, many times but I think the information given by the main agents is adding to the confusion, I had the cam belt, water pump, and cam belt kit changed on my 2008 skoda fabia 1.4 TDi pd car, this was done on the 09/08/12 it was the time period rather than the mileage made me decide to get this done recently I rang the main skoda agents to ask when it was due again they took my registration number and said 80,000 miles or 4 years, I then phoned another main skoda agents just to double check, they again took my car details, they said it was 120,000 miles or 5 years as my car would have been fitted with an upgraded belt???? Does any member have any information as even the main agents don't seem to agree. Thank you
  5. Hi sorry for the delay in getting back to you , thanks for the advice it worked perfectly.
  6. Hi Has any member had experience in replacing the small rubber/metal pressed in bush on the front control arm (wishbone) I am replacing the console bushes and thought I would also renew these bushes as well, I have gathered a lot of information on replacing the console bushes but can not find much on the the other bushes. Thank you
  7. I have just done an engine oil and filter change on my Skoda Fabia 1.4 TDi PD car it is 2008 model, I used Millers XFE-PD 5w40 engine oil and a UFI filter element, after warming the engine up I drove the back wheels of the car on to 2 planks of wood to give it a slight incline forwards and used a suction pump through the dipstick hole to drain the oil. I got just under 4 litres out which is about right for this engine ( 3.8 litres full) after replacing the filter and oil I warmed the engine up to check for leaks, when I dipped the oil again it was black, it looked as if it had not had an oil change, now I know that diesel engines are not the cleanest of engines but is this normal? and would there be any advantage in using an engine flush oil next time or could running the engine with this in damage the engine, I am thinking with it being a PD engine. The car has only done 30,000 miles and is on a fixed service using 505.01 spec oil. Thanks
  8. I had a word with the service manager at my local skoda agents (Lightcliffe of Warrington) to see if the car although 6 weeks over the 3 year/ 60,000 miles warranty could be fixed under warranty as a good will gesture, he said the matter would have to be referred to the warranty department at skoda who would make a decision but as the car had a full skoda service history from new and only done 29,650 miles that they may offer a good will contribution to the £262 bill, I waited 2 days for them to make up there minds when the service manager rang back the answer was a flat NO, they would not contribute anything to the repair, he then asked if I would like to book the car in to have the job done ( at my expense) !! I answered likewise NO! so much for goodwill. I will get the car sorted anywhere bar a skoda main agents.
  9. The car has an up todate service history from the previous owner which was carried out by a skoda main agent, I will try with my local skoda agent who detected the leak and quoted £262.77 for the repair to see if they would do the work under warranty or at least meet me half way with the costs as a good will jesture,
  10. Following members advice I have just had my air con regased at my local Skoda agents, they found that the system had lost all its gas it cost me £50 which I thought was quite good, well the system lasted 2 days before packing in again I had noticed 2 small pools of oil under the car and reported to the garage who said it may be just condensation? well the car has been back again to-day and they have found a pipe that is leaking and again the system is empty, they have quoted me £153.97 for the pipe, £65 labour plus vat which comes to £262.77 they said that they would let me off for the £50 to re-charge system, is this price about right?? I have never had this type of work done before so I don't know if this is a fair price also is there any alternatives repairers in the North West I live near Wigan and Warrington. Thanks
  11. Thanks for all your help, I have booked it in to have the systemchecked for leaks and re-gassed
