Only earth have been able to find is battery negative and there no issues with that. Unless I'm missing something someone knows about. Havnt had the chance to try bypassing brown/red wire as pouring rain tried flooding me out so that's for another day
-
Ok will give that a check any idea where earth strap may be
-
The alternator loom has been changed which I assume is the earth strap being suggested. The starter turns over well and starts car first time. There isn't any hesitation or slow turning over
-
Car starts first time when battery has some charge in it. Battery is fine have had it tested and it holds charge when as have put it on a charger. What earth lead would u be thinking of might need attention.

I will pick up some wire and try bypass old wire see if corrects problem if it works I will replace it
-
The alternator is generating charge but for some reason th charge is not getting to battery. Thanks again rwbaldwin will check that out. The brown/red wire at starter I had to cut back good 8 inches to find good wire
-
No luck. Still not charging had to strip brown wire quite a lot as was full of rust. All wire soldered and heat wrapped and tested for continuity with no issues. But still not charging, anyone ideas anyone
-
Rwbaldwin you were spot on thanks for the help. Have had to order new plug as no where near me has one in stock. Then will have to solder in new wiring. Hopefully car will be back to old self after this
-
Thank rwbaldwin I will check them tomorrow as an about to go to work. The plug was part of alternator loom so that side should be good as been replaced as said earlier but I havnt checked starter side. Hopefully ur knowledge is better than mine

It all began with starter not working which I had replaced then al of a sudden alternator dies. Which was replaced but two new alternator wouldn't charge my battery so thought maybe alternator wiring loom was problem new one bought and fitted. But still no charge going to battery. I am at a loss what could be wrong. Fuse box on battery is fine help anyone please

Where exactly is the relay?
-
Is there a relay controlling the start and charge system on octy 1. I am waiting on alternator lead to replace current one but if theres a relay for it I will change that as well. She has done alot of miles and wouldn't be surprised if could do with changing a few electricals
-
Sounds like the wire is issue am going to change it and see if that's the problem
-
Ends of cable looks ok to me not burned out and connections don't look frayed. Some parts of insulation doesn't look best chunks missing but can't see wire but I havnt poked and prodded those area get to make sure. Battery is showing 13+ volts when car not running but when started drops to around 12. It should go above 14 shouldn't it
-
I can't see any burn marks on connectors for the cable and fuses seem ok. I will take it off and check it end to end. Apart from visual check what should I look for

New alternator has sorted dash out but battery light is on and battery not charging. Have taken one alternator back as that wasn't charging. On 2nd new alternator and still nothing thinking something else causing problem. Anybody got any ideas what could be causing problem
-
Have taken pictures of dash on phone but don't have the knowledge of how to post on here
-
Was my local garage have used for years without any trouble. Was a brand new starter Ecu was scanned less than 6 months ago with nothing showing All fuses are good Only new part is starter no finger prints anywhere else at all
-
New starter fitted again still no digital dash though. Car has been plugged into computer and came up with no error messages. Think will have to phone local Skoda dealer see if they have had any experience with this sort of problem
-
Have dropped car back to garage. New starter seems faulty. Don't think that would effect dash though. The analog part of dash works perfect but no digital readout. All was fine before went in for new starter. Hopefully dodgy starter interfering with signal and will work once good starter fitted
-
Thanks for the quick responses will check fuses and hopefully that is the problem. If not its back to the garage tomorrow

I have a 04 octi 1.9tdi 90PD ambiente SE. I had a new starter fitted today and when I picked up my octi the digital parts of dash are not working. Neither the mileage readout or the clock/computer screen are working. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing the problem
