Horn sounding on its own - anyone?
ewans replied to ewans's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Dealer thinks they havd found and solved the problem - loose spring on the underside of the stearing wheel cap (part you push when you sound the horn), should get teh car back tomorrow AM so we will see... -
Got a strange electrical gremlin at the moment, the horn souds randomly as your drive - might happen for an hour then nothing for 2 days then its back, turn the wheel and it gets worse next day nothing it gone again or it only happens when you go over potholes. I thinking loose connection somehwere... but where? Anyone had something similar? Its in with the dealer but if they cant repoduce it i suspect it will come back to me until it becomes a persistent problem they can see. On the plus side Skoda Assist have been good as usual and have provided a brand new Ocavia 3 as a hire car - its quite nice, feels bigger but not nessesseraly better/higher quality if you know what i mean.

two separate positive experiences in the last month 1 – breakdown, failed injector. They had the car for a week and once the part arrived fixed the within 1 working day. Good service throughout, no issues with hire car via Skoda assist they extended it cover the 7 days and cleaned my car before handing it back. Had a follow up call 2 weeks later to ask if all was ok. 2 – 1 service (2011 petrol vrs), quoted £150 when I called to compare prices with other scottish dealers, there's was the best I could find, collected the car all in order and final bill was £108, they also cleaned the car again.

Engine broken but Skoda Assist have been quite good.

Thanks for that james, i've *not* gone back to Skoda Assit today (car broke down yesterady evening ) but will call them tomorrow morning and progress it. I cant imagine my car will be fixed tomorrow as the dealer didnt even have time to look at it today, not their fault to be fair they are fully booked out not much they can do if i just turn up out of the blue with a broken moter. -

i talked to skoda UK, basicly if its waranty work all costs fall to skoda UK so if the dealer doesn't have a car they can give you from their fleet the should either source one from within the dealer network or mobility pool or as a last resort hire somehthing suitable, either way there is no cost to them and you shouldn't hesiate to point this out. -
Car (2011 Petrol Vrs) broke down today 25 in Troon 25 miles from home, went there with my daughter to get some fish and chips but the car had other ideas. Out of the blue it lost all power, and started rattling like an old tractor, strong smell of petrol everywhere, grey/blue smoke billowing out of the exhaust, check engine light comes on. I pull over and turn of the engine, then it wont start. Skoda assist called, RAC on site in 40 mins, 2 fault codes for 1) cylinder 2 misfiring and 2) high pressure fuel system with low pressure. RAC calls Skoda tech and the agent handling the call straight away says it’s the injector in cylinder 2 stuck open flooding the engine with fuel apparently a known all be it rare problem – the RAC man was at a loss, he said he’s never see a ‘random’ failure is this engine model… period…ever. Loader arrives and we are driven back to Glasgow with the car dropped of outside Henrys Skoda in the city centre, dumped outside their gates as they were closed by the time we got there - all good and full marks to Skoda assist for doing what they said, when they said and keeping in touch throughout. So two questions Anyone had this before and how serious is it? I didn’t buy the car from this dealer, can I reasonably expect them to provide a courtesy car as ironically the coming two weeks are the only time this year I absolutely must have a car! Cheers all e

ewans replied to ewans's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
thanks for the advice all - any recomendations of a good VBRA-approved outfit in Glasgow? Also, update from the police they have someone in custody and want the SOC guys to do an imprint of the hole tomorrow to match with the wepon they recoved. Well done strathclyde police, i wasnt expecting that! -
anyone know ballpark what a new bonnet costs to supply and fit from a main dealer, someone put a claw hammer through mine last night. its a facelift 11 plate in black. thanks e

thanks for the advice all, getting all 4 changed back to my summer tyres today so while its a pain in the hoop the timing is actualy ok as i was going to swap them back soon anyway.

in 20 years of driving ive never had any tyre problems so looking for advice on best course of action. Thismorning i had a pothole at 50mph, its was a real cracker of a hole. The front passenger side tyre now has a bubble on the outerside about 3cm in diamiter and maybe 1 cm i height. the tyres are 4 month old winter tyres and have covered ~ 2000 miles. Question, can i still drive the car until i get the tyre replaced and how soon should i do that - or to put it anyother way, how serious is this? thanks e

ive gone for hankook icebear 3000... how can you not love a name like that! http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?details=Ordern&cart_id=9497309.110.23021&typ=R-133219&ranzahl=4&Breite=225&Quer=40&Felge=18&weiter=0&last_sort=preis&kategorie=6&Ang_pro_Seite=50&sort_by=preis&Transport=P&F_F=1&dsco=110&sowigan=Wi seem to get good ratings across the board (see link) and blackcircles are giving 25% of them at the moment so 4 x 225/40/18 on the OEM rims £440 fitted.

There is no way a dealer is going to agree the px price of a car they will not receive until 7 or 8 months later when the new car is delivered to the customer, that would be madness on their part. I think if you get the t and c's of the deal it will say as much and they can, rightly so, revalue the asset you are trading in as px at the time you trade it to assess it's current market value. If you didn't receive the contact then you could use that as leverage to negotiate a better px price, same goes for the damage to the car use it as some leverage to find some common ground but it's v unlikely that they will back down 100% as others have said they dont have to sell you the car and now the vat free deal is over they could probably get more profit from not selling it to you but putting it back on the forecourt.

Skoda Octavia Bonneville vRS
ewans replied to BonnevillevRS's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I watched a great documentary a couple of nights ago about the Arfons brothers land speed attempts at bonneiville in the mid 60's. One of the brothers Art got hold of a trashed jet engine from a airforce bomber, fixed it in his shed, build the green monster car in his shed and then took record at 601mph. Crashed on his last run @ 610mph and walked away... Amazing worth a YouTube search -
I've been following the 1500 mile beading in period to the letter... today that was up and I moved the DSG stick from D to S for the first time.... ohhhhhhhhhhh my. So glad I got the DSG with steering wheel paddles, pop the box in S and using the paddles to control the gear selection in the bendy B road bits... EPIC!! I love this car, and I love the DSG... Fact.
