  1. Thanks for the advice, if clutch drag is the cause what is the solution?
  2. I had the gearbox oil replaced with Napa 75W-80 MTF oil and Wynns transmission treatment additive. It did make some difference but selecting first was still difficult. After waiting about 200 miles to see if the effect of the oil change got any better, and it didn’t, I decided to check the adjustment of the gear change cables, I also lubricated the connections of the cables and the base of the gear lever, this seems to have made a small improvement but I think I will have to resign myself to selecting third before first when it doesn’t want to go into first gear. I have noticed that if I try to put the gear lever into first as I am pressing the clutch down this helps, as does selecting first when the car is still slightly moving, which suggests to me that it might be a synchromesh problem although it never crunches into gear so maybe it’s just hydraulic pressure. Who knows!
  3. Hi I have a 2009 Fabia mk2 which has a yellow tyre pressure warning light on the dashboard. I have checked the tyre pressures and they’re fine so I used the reset button at the side of the handbrake and the yellow warning light went off for about a second and then came back on again, I have tried this repeatedly and also tried disconnecting the battery to no avail. There are no other warning lights on and everything else seems to be working properly. The tyres have been on the car for more than a year without any issues and they’re all in good condition. Does anyone know how to get the light to stay off on a more permanent basis? Many Thanks
  4. Thanks for your suggestions Nigel, I have tried lubricating the linkages to no avail. In reply to your earlier questions it's a five speed with reverse next to fourth gear. I have tried a few things this week to see what makes the gear selections easier. At the traffic lights I tend to keep the car in neutral and I select first just before setting off, if this is rushed the first gear is hard to select, but if the clutch is depressed in advance by a few seconds to allow the gears to slow down it is easier, to get around the problem another gear can be selected before first which makes this a lot easier. Third then first is better than second then first, presumably because both first and third are in the same direction for the gear lever, when selecting reverse this is made easier by selecting fourth gear beforehand, also same direction of travel. I think a different grade of gear oil would help but need to know which grade is best. When the engine isn't running all the gears select easily.
  5. Thanks Nigel thats a good point, yes it is a manual gearbox, I didn’t realise they made automatics, I bet they’re interesting to drive. I did try searching on here before posting and found a couple of threads that hadn’t been answered. If it was the cables would it still be difficult without having the engine running because it’s easy to go through the gears with the engine switched off. The tick over isn’t high but I’m not sure if the flywheel is dual mass I’ve always thought they were reserved for diesels. By the way that looks like a very nice Estelle. Cheers Tony
  6. I have a 2017 1.0 MPi Fabia and it’s a great little car, but, it can be very reluctant to go into first or reverse gear. It doesn’t make much difference if it’s hot or cold, and sometimes it goes into gear very easily, especially if the engine has just been started. If I go in and out of a couple of other gears I can get around green problem but this isn’t ideal in stop start traffic etc. Many thanks for any help
  7. Thanks Carlston, do you know the OEM number?
  8. Hi does anyone know the dimensions of the rear shock absorbers for a 2012 Fabia 1.2 Tsi Monte Carlo? I've been looking for replacements on the Autodoc website and there are a few different lengths available. Thanks
  9. I have the same problem on a 2011 Fabia 1.2 Tsi. I replaced the turbo actuator with a Chinese copy part, it was alright for a few weeks and now the problem has reappeared. I’m looking for a better part because I think this is the cause of error code P155A (I used a Clarke code reader to get the reading) and the yellow engine light on the dashboard. Prolonged acceleration such as driving uphill on the motorway brings the light on. Looking forward to getting it fixed as the car struggles to reach 70 mph now. Any ideas anyone? Thanks
  10. Can anyone recommend a supplier for a turbo actuator. The car is a Fabia 1.2 Tsi 86 bhp 2012 model. I have been quoted over £300 for a genuine part and £60 for a Chinese copy. Having already tried a Chinese part which only lasted a short time before it started putting the engine check light on and performing badly I am looking for something as good quality as the original Mahle part which lasted several years. Many thanks in advance.
  11. Did you get this fixed? I had a broken breather pipe too but it wasn't the one in your hand it was from the rocker cover and I could smell oil fumes in the car, this didn't put a warning light on though. I have P155A fault code now and the yellow check engine light is on, I can reset it but it comes back during prolonged acceleration such as joining a motorway and then there's a loss of power. The car has recently had a new turbo actuator fitted but the fault still exists. Thanks
  12. The wiring appears to be alright so I’ve replaced the oil sensor again, this time I have used a genuine Hella part. I noticed that when the other new part was fitted the oil temperature reading was quite erratic, randomly going from nothing to very high, this has settled down now and sensible readings are now showing up. The oil level light didn’t appear again for a while after the Hella part was fitted but it’s now making occasional appearances. Does anyone know the point at which the light is triggered? I always keep the oil level near the maximum point of the dipstick.
  13. Thanks for the advice, I do have a multimeter so I will check the readings and get back to you
  14. I had a yellow oil can symbol on the dashboard accompanied by the words "Oil sensor: Workshop!" so I fitted a new oil level sensor (not a genuine Skoda part) but the light still comes on. I went back to the motor factors where I bought the replacement part and they cross referenced the part number from the original part with the one that they supplied and confirmed that it is correct. (The wiring seems ok and the bonnet catch switch seems ok too because the dashboard display shows when it is open and goes off when it is closed, sometimes the catch switch can cause the oil light warning as well. Do I need to do some kind of fault code reset to clear the fault? So far I have used a code reader which showed no stored faults but it isn't a very expensive one, and I have also tried leaving the battery disconnected for a while. The original part number is 03C 907 660M and the engine code is CBZA Thanks for your help.
  15. Hi has anyone here converted a Fabia 1.2 Tsi from manual to automatic? I have a 2011 registered 2012 model that I want to convert if anyone can help thanks
  16. Has anyone fitted larger tyres to 17 inch wheels on a Fabia 2? I have a Monte Carlo which has 205/40/17 tyres and due to the badly maintained roads where I live I have had several damaged by potholes and the ride can be really bad so I am considering a set of 205/50/17 tyres to gain a higher sidewall and a bit more protection, I'm only really concerned about clearance on full lock and full suspension travel although any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks
