  1. Hi As the topic suggests we're looking for a decent quality bike rack (4 bikes) to go on the back of the car. We can't put them on the roof 'cos that's where the box goes (in which I keep the wife on long journeys). I don't want one of those ones which strap to the back 'cos they knack the paintwork and deny access to the tailgate. We don't have the towbar yet so all options are available (if you have suggestions for a particular type of towbar for example). If anyone has an opinion we'd be happy to hear it! thanks Chris.
  2. Hmmm I get a continual droning from my passenger seat at all speeds, especially after I've annoyed her... (I'll get me coat...) ;-)
  3. Just to let you know how things went (if you're at all interested ), ended up with some Conti SC5's for £130 fitted. I'd imagine there were cheaper ones out there but that suited me, especially since my main dealer price-matched. I'm sure many will scoff at the choice of tyre but that's for another thread :-D (and 21k out of my front conti 2's tells me they must be at least 'ok') :-D
  4. thanks for all the options folks - I'll look about and see what they have to offer. cheers Chris
  5. I've seen a lot of threads on which tyre is the best but not many on the actual retailers. If you have someone you use or recommend please post below. Also, if you know of one who is doing a particularly good deal at the mo' I need two tyres for my VRS (and I'm open to options on which one if the price is right) thanks Chris.
  6. Hmm, this is all very intriguing! I don't mind getting my hands mucky for changing oil and the filter (which I'm guessing is a reasonably simple procedure unless things have changed significantly since the days of my old Fiat 127 (Ah, memories :'( ). But I'd not have a scoobie as to the state of my brakes (although I do have hydraulic brakes on the bike I guess it's not quite the same ). Since I'm intending keeping the car until the wheels fall off (200k plus and then some judging by other threads here) will a dealer pour in new oil and pop in a new filter in any more efficient a manner then I could? Oh - and how would I let the car know that I'd done this :-/ ?
  7. Thanks for all the info guys - it's certainly food for thought. We've still got 500 miles before the countdown runs out (and the wheels fall off ) so there's time to mull over the above wisdom!
  8. Apologies for writing this all on one line but the return key doesn't seem to be working in this window (it does everywhere else...). We're coming up for 20k in our VRS and the servicing light has just popped on (we're on variable). Do we have to have the 1 year service or can we skip to the 2 year? Also, has Skoda resurrected any of its good servicing deals? I recall that a couple of xmases ago they were giving out vouchers with the fixed plans. Again, sorry for the lack of spacing but nowt I can do about it! cheers Chris.
  9. Hi All, Am scouting around for a Mark II VRS estate rear bumper (new). Have seen a couple of sites but it's always nice to have somewhere recommended as well. If nobody's sure then I'll just go for it anyway. thanks Chris
  10. Genuine question. I am competent (building bathrooms plumbing, electrics etc) but have never contemplated doing a car myself. Having knacked my rear bumper and seeing that they're only about £220 online (which I was plesantly surprised at) I'd be willing to give it a go if folk think that the process is relatively straight forward. If, however, it's actually far more complex than it looks then I'd bow to experience and let a garage to it. Anyone given it a go? Anyone have sage advice either way? thanks Chris.
  11. thanks the damage to the rear bumper is too extensive for a repair (I'd imagine it's knacked internally) - I forgot to mention that it also has rear sensors which I guess will be shot as well :( !
  12. Hi Anyone with knowledge in this area. 11 plate VRS estate (anthracite). Managed not to put on handbrake enough so that it very slowly trickled down a hill until the gradient changed (it took about 5 mins to happen) and it hit a stone wall (at what must have been a reasonable rate as the wall is gone). The back bumper is cracked along with the left rear light cluster. It is also very likely that the exhaust took some damage (though it is difficult to tell this). I really have no idea how much this'll cost to repair (I'm getting an estimate later in the week) but I'd appreciate a guesstimate from peeps on here (to make it less painful when it happens). I guess it comes down to how much damage there is that I cant see. The handbrake was on (as witnessed by the wall owner) but I guess I hadn't pulled it up enough :(. My guess would be between 1-2k but these things are often more expensive than you expect :( Thoroughly gutted :( thanks in advance, Chris.
  13. I wouldn't get too excited. Mainly oldies in campervans fishing around a lake- kids aren't allowed there in case they cark it in the pond when no-one's looking. And I agree VRS777, Peppa pig world does rock :-), but I believe we're getting off topic here! (And no, I don't have any pictures - I managed to **** up the charging of the camera before we left - wife was less than happy about that. It was particularly annoying 'cos there were some awesome sunsets and sunrises that would have made for some excellent moody VRS photos - ah well... )
