  1. spot on nevertheless, some MB Quart kits (mostly amps) were still made with "old" parts. this made the quality of those kits comparable to the original brand -> this went on till about 2005 (or so i've heard), but only for couple of models
  2. just bought a pair of new TRW's (rear) for 56 a piece. still waiting for them to arrive... ebay is your friend
  3. no worries you won't break it. had mine (rear right) solid about 3 weeks ago. broke the pin on the rewind tool but managed to get it back going until the replacement arrives. as an immediate effect the fuel consumption dropped drastically and regarding rebuild: i've seen brand new TRW calipers go for under 100 euro. for that money i would rather buy a new one...
  4. it's not about the speakers, more about the "enclosure" (i.e. the doors themselves, etc) that's rubbish... - major loss in low(er) frequencies it could be an improvement, although i would not expect it to be some epic change anyway might well be worth the 40's
  5. had one of those till someone smashed the drivers window and snatched it, destroying the wiring to the in-dash amp... wiring was a pita to restore so beware i always hated how the HU would just hang in "searching" mode
  6. already changed all of mine, so be prepared: if one goes, they all will
  7. aftermarket maf's tend to break down the soon you slam them on... had a mate with a passat and 15 mins of NEW aftermarket maf operating time
  8. thanks for all the great input. nevertheless i've managed to sort a MBQuart kit (300W RMS, 12", quality over power) on a epic budget did the install myself. pulled the cd-changer out and made a custom plate to fit the amp. pic of the finished install: [excuse the messy boot (crap phone pic makes it look even worse) and the cheap looking RCA kit (a temporary extension, as my 5m kit ran short, plus, it's in fact double shielded and gold plated)]
  9. been browsing the interwebs and looked at some interesting jl kits. problem is, i'm located in eastern europe (romania), so the shipping costs blow my budget... i'm flexible with the budget, but i would like to stop somewhere around 250 on a side note, the CP112-W0v2 alone starts at 260+ euros in austria...
  10. am satisfied with the alpine kit so far. i'm after quality and precision without having to murder my wallet the alpine kit becomes attractive as i can sort it for a little under 175 pounds. plus, the only reviews i could find on this kit were positive... nevertheless, the jl kit you suggested is pretty interesting
  11. just had a full alpine system (my aftermarket headunit went bang, so i decided to do the whole system and bin the cd-changer) - headunit, - 4x45W amplifier [link] (ktp-445), - 2x type-g spg-17cs [link] - 70w rms, - 2x type-g spg-13cs [link] - 65w rms i'm looking for a sub right now, probably wanting to stick to alpine. anyone had experience with alpine subwoofers ? there's a [link] sbg kit, that i can sort fairly cheap. (250w rms woofer and 200w amp). any other recommendations out there ? (different sub and amp specs ?)
  12. had a powder one go off in the boot (the valve bursted) whilst driving. heard a loud "fssssssss". you don't wanna know the consequences...
  13. some wiring diagrams (google): or: link is the miss fire the only fault code recorded ? in order of increasing costs, the causes for miss fire in a single cyl would be: - ignition (spark plug, coil pack, wiring) - fuel injection (blocked / leaking injector)
  14. it happens even at high rpm, but you don't notice it exactly because of the high revs intermittent wiring fault is my bet - have a closer look
  15. if you've interchanged the coilpacks but the miss fire is still present on cyl 1 it has probably the least to do with shot coilpacks. i'd have a look at the wiring in search for cracks; it may be that the loom itself is shot beware, running on 3 cyl's or miss fires for a longer period of time will cause your cat to fail
  16. off topic: SMF's are known for the vibrations they cause. rumor true/false ?
  17. now these are the answers i've been waiting for thanks again
  18. thanks for the replies. read somewhere on a vag forum that g60 flywheels are not manufactured anymore by Sachs/Luk/Valeo. the g60/vr6 kits include it, but they're not genuine nevertheless my question remains unanswered: should i do the DMF as i do the clutch or not ?
  19. i'm thinking about a clutch replacement and after a few discussions with some TPS and Skoda dealers i'm left with 2 options: - some recommend clutch + DMF change - some don't (including the dealer) i want to stay OEM, so no g60/vr6 conversion intended question is: do the clutch incl. DMF or just the clutch ? on a side note: a TPS just offerd me a genuine VALEO SMF flywheel. didn't know they were still made
