Timing belts are a doddle on these 1.4 16v engines. Did one yesterday for the first time in less than 3hours. Incidentally, I bought it as spares or repairs as it wouldn't start. When I got it home found the diddy belt between the 2 cams had lost half of its teeth. Replaced both of them and the tensioners & idlers etc and it started up straight away with no bent valves or any nasty noises. LUCKY ME.

The sound is fine from my ans 510. The Sat nav is terrible though, and the Bluetooth is ok for streaming music, but pants for making & receiving calls

skoda breakers. lincolnshire
Quarry Bodger replied to Quarry Bodger's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Thanks for that. I will give them a call. -
Hi folks. It's been a while, but I have had things to do. My pre fl is suffering from terrible lacquer peel on the bonnet and front offside wing. They have clearly been painted at some time in the past. A body shop quoted a small fortune to have them repainted, but surely finding one in a breakers should be fairly straightforward. It's finished in black magic, and the rest of the car is sound if a little swirly. Your thoughts would be appreciated, but so would suggestions of a possible breakers yard nearby.

No, still got it at the moment. I am waiting for the black box to be swapped into the replacement car at the moment. Can't sell till that's done. Cheers

sorry folks, ive had pc problems, but back up & running now. its done 90000miles or thereabouts, and is located near Spalding in lincolnshire. I have no pictures at the moment, but will put some up at the weekend. I still have the car, as i am waiting for the insurance engineer to come and remove the black box, and fit it in the replacement vehicle. Apologies once again to everyone who replied.

i am selling a 1998 vauxhall corsa. its taxed & tested till the end of january, and has been thoroughly reliable in the time we have owned it, however, the timing chain is getting quite noisy, the shock absorbers are tired, and the paint which was once gold, is now faded to a manky green colour. Ideal for someone who has time on their hands to tinker, but no good to me any more. Will sell to the first person who waves £180 under my nose, otherwise its off to the scrappy at the weekend, and i will cash in the road tax and still have £180 ish. Its your call. if interested, please get in touch. only here till the end of August, then its too late.

Old thread i know, but just bought and fitted an ANS620 to my pre fl. Bought through ebay from iceboxauto and I think its great. the parking display works fine, and it even shows which doors are open now whereas the old stream didn't. Not wired in the supplied reversing camera yet or the ipod & usb leads into the glove box, but so far so good. I know that the purists will say "Thats not OEM!" and yes i have lost the display for climate control, and can no longer use the disc changer in the boot. But with Bluetooth, nav, usb connectivity memory card slots, 2 year warranty and all the rest, including delivery for less than £279.What more could anyone want. I didn't even need to change the surround from my original set up, as this is the same dimensions exactly. I find these days that frequently I am unimpressed with new things, however, this time my expectations have been surpassed. The only drawback is the voice of the sat nav announcements. As soon as I discover how to change it, I will

Assembling Remote Central Locking
Quarry Bodger replied to toxicelvis's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
I fitted something like that to my 2000 Octavia a few years ago. Best thing you can do is throw the wiring diagram away, and make it up as you go along. It worked ok in the end, but I didn't bother with wiring in the indicators or Windows. Good luck. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk -
Wingmirror Glass Fallen Off
Quarry Bodger replied to VeoVeo's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
i used epoxy glue, but it was free from work, and i'm tight. worked well though -
I fitted something similar to my no 1 octy a while ago, and it was definitely a negative trigger for the locking system. I fitted a completely different system to my Alfa many many years ago, and spliced into the centre console buttons for that one. Am on my phone, so can't see what model year you have, but might just be able to find a wiring diagram up to 2006. No promises there though.

Tow bars and fitters?
Quarry Bodger replied to stubest8's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
If you get it removed along with the electrics, let me know please. I am near Spalding, and could tootle over there one day and buy it from you. -
I have been looking for a tow bar set up for my pre fl too, i have seen these on ebay, but dont know if anyone has any experience with them or not. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Towbar-Detachable-Electric-Kit-Skoda-Octavia-2004On-Estate-2-II-1Z-4x4-4WD-/221377932696?pt=UK_Car_Accessories_Touring_Travel&hash=item338b272d98 it seems like a really good deal to me, even though its only for a bypass relay lighting system. if anyone has any useful info, i would love to hear it please

Headlight washer issue.
Quarry Bodger replied to VRS_Bus's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I had this with mine. It was the nearside one which had become detached. Provided none of the little clips have broken off, they do just clip back on. But first you will need to gently pull the jet towards you with some long nose pliers. There is no motor as such to drive them out, as they are powered by water pressure I believe, and you would get rather damp if you asked someone to operate the washers whilst you tried to catch it. If things are as desperate as scrapping it then before you do, just try running a fused wire direct from battery positive terminal straight to the shut off solenoid, then see if it will start. Honestly, once I had done that, mine started every time, until I replaced relay 109. If that fails to work then I am afraid I am out of ideas. Sorry. Sent from my Nexus 7

My old Octavia with the AGR engine did all that, but wouldn't fire up until I changed the relay. Check to see if you have any voltage to the fuel shut off solenoid on top of the injector pump with the ignition turned on but not cranking the engine. If there is no voltage, it will never start. It is possible to open the relay and activate its workings by hand just as a final check. But not recommended. Sent from my Nexus 7

I might be being a bit thick here, so please excuse me if I am. Does a polo still use relay 109 like the mk1 Octavia with the AGR engine. When that packs up it stops the engine from running. Sent from my Nexus 7

A good Scala on eBay is fetching way more than £895. More like £1200! There is one similar to mine with more miles and less mot for £850, and a stolen recovered damaged one without a logbook for almost £600. I said in my original post that the price was not carved in stone, but I am not going to give it away. Sent from my Nexus 7
