  1. Okay just had a phone around and can get the P6000 for £106 per corner. Guess thats the way to go then? Thanks guys
  2. Yeah have checked mine and all 4 are down to the wear indicators in the tread pattern. Whoops. (Guess this is a matter of urgency for both safety and law)
  3. When you say check the tyres how do i check them without paying for them, getting them fitted, and then throwing the car around a corner? Surely it's too late to take them back then?
  4. Hi guys, Just had a service on my 2007 Diesel VRS octavia and was told i need 4 new tyres as they are down to their limits. First off let me get this off my chest, I'm not a boy racer, I drive sensible, and do roughly 20,000 miles per year. I've has a look around and it seems that most tyres start at around £90 per corner (Halfords AutoCentre are currently doing Firestone SZ90 for £90 fitted). I've also phoned a smaller garage and was told that i can get 4 budget tyres for £260 total (£65 a corner). What to do? Is it false economy to buy budget tyres for someone doing 20,000miles per year? Is it worth me spending a little extra to get economical tyres to improve mpg? The reason this is a difficult decision for me is that i'm currently in the process of a house move and the full service plus tyres its creeping around £600-700, this is money i dont have right now! :-( Many thanks P.s. Currently there are Pilot Sport 3 tyres on all 4 corners and these are about £130 each
  5. Guys anyone able to help me on this? Would really appreciate some info if its possible for the aircon to burn engine oil. Thanks
  6. Hi guys, Last summer my car was burning oil. Over the winter the issue seemed to fix itself and i didnt need to keep adding oil to the car. Now that we've had a few warmer days i've noticed that the oil has needed topping up (warning light came on). Can anyone guess what this could be? Could this be the aircon? Many thanks Matt Oh, and the car is a 57 VRS Diesel with 110k on the clock. (i've had the car for 20k).
  7. Hi guys, Had the coolant low light come on so checked under the bonnet and it was indeed a little low. Drove to the garage to get some coolant, got home ready to top it up and i couldn't open the bonnet. When pulling the lever down to my right leg i felt a bit of a clunk in the handle, thinking it was the bonnet went to the front of the car and noticed the usual handle wasn't sticking out. Went back inside car to pull handle again and nothing. There is a small bit of resistance in the handle and i can pull it about 90degrees before it stops. It returns to it's downward position when released. I've tried pressing hard on the bonnet whilst pulling the handle etc but cant get it open. Any ideas? I've been told the cable runs via the front right wheel arch. I'm not too sure what i can try. Thanks in advance. P.s. I still need to top the collant up!
  8. Hi again guys. The oil i have been topping up with is Castrol Magnatec 10W-40 A3/B4 Part Synthetic You mention i need an oil that's to VW spec, can you recommend one that i could pick up from halfords? Many thanks Matthew
  9. Hi guys, I have a 57plate 2.0 TDI VRS for 3 months. (98k on the clock) I think it's burning oil (as there is no oil patch on my driveway). It seems as though every 1000-2000miles I have to put a liter of oil in it. This can't be right! The oil i have been putting in it is 10w40 semi synthetic. Is this the correct oil? Hope someone can help. (Or ask me questions to get more info, not sure what else i need to provide) Many thanks Matthew
  10. Hi guys, Since i bought the car the aircon didn't work. So the other day i took it to an AC specialist to sort out. The pressure sensor had gone so that was replaced, the gas refilled and then the engine fault code cleared. Seems good. The only issue is that sometimes the aircon doesnt seem to work, i have to stop and start the car again to get it going. This was especially noticeable last night, i got in the car after the gym and was very hot and sweaty, the front window steamed up. I pressed the two buttons on the left circular wheel to do the front and rear windows. Air was diverted to the front windscreen but it would not clear. The entire inside of the window misted up. The setting was on the lowest it can go (below 16C). I pulled over, stopped the car, turned ignition off, key out, key in, restart engine, and then it all works fine... within 20secs the front windscreen was clear. Why could this be? A fault? Cheers
  11. Usually occurs after starting when engine is cold... Doesn't usually appear when the engine is warm. Is it a cheap fix to get a new sensor?
  12. Hi guys, When i start the car i get a few beeps and a message on the maxidot displays check coolant owners manual. This message then disappears and I get this: Any ideas what it could be? The coolant is at max I believe. Octavia 57 VRS TDI Many thanks Matt
  13. Hi guys, I've got an octavia vrs mk2 and it has a 6cd changer hidden behind a panel in the boot. In the rack is just the 6cd changer but it looks as though there is space for other gadgets.... what's missing? Has anyone utilised this space better? It seems an awful lots of room taken up just for the cd changer! Thsnks
  14. Guys, Can anyone tell me what this is on my dashboard? It's always reflecting on my windscreen and is driving me nuts, expecially because i don't know what it is: Cheers
