  1. I agree that silver is an odd colour to judge, especially from photos.A little detective work may be in order . . . . . As for the wires, all will be revealed come sunday. If it's the remnants of a phone cradle it's not a problem as long as there are no gaping holes in the dashboard. Decent, well priced cars seem to be a rarity north of the border,so I need to be willing to travel to find one.And Blackpool's not that far away - even if it turns out to be a turd. Got my eye on another couple if these two don't work out.
  2. Sorry, forgive the ignorance RSmike, but what is maxidot ?And is it good or bad ? And meta55b,are you talking about the silver one? coz I thought that too,but if it's been in an accident it's not been registered coz i checked. And thanks for the info XK140.I'll check with both dealers to find out if either has had it done yet.
  3. Thanks for the help guys. That ties in with what I heard yesterday. The bodywork was absolutely spot-on,so no worries there.Am I right in saying they came new with a 12 year anti-corrosion warranty? Have another one to go look at this weekend coming,so we'll see what happens. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what the timing belt change intervals are on the petrol version. This is the one I went to see yesterday http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201225476354726/sort/locasc/usedcars/price-to/7000/model/octavia/make/skoda/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/page/1/keywords/vrs/radius/1500/postcode/g131yl?logcode=p And this weekends mission http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201224475547894/sort/locasc/usedcars/price-to/7000/model/octavia/make/skoda/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/page/1/keywords/vrs/radius/1500/postcode/g131yl?logcode=p Any opinions ?
  4. Hope someone can offer me a little guidance on this. Managed to trash my last Octavia and I'm now in the market for an Octavia II Vrs. Can anyone tell me what the weak points are on this car as I have no idea where to start. I was reasonably well genned up on the 1U2,but I'm guessing as the Octy II is a new model that they will not share the same troublesome issues. I went to look at one today, and apart from the engine sounding a bit tappety and the drivers door handle being stiff,it seemed like a pretty good car. I know about the door seals on the back doors and that all seemed fine, but is there anything else I should be looking out for.
  5. I've been reading existing threads on here regarding problems with the fuses on top of the battery. Can I ask if anyone has come up with a solution to the melting fuseholder problem as I'm having to deal with this at the moment. I've ordered another fuse box,but is the same thing just gonna end up happening again ? One contributor suggested upgrading the cabling leading to the box.Would this work,or would it make the problem worse ? Any suggestions on how to sort this ?
  6. Any chance it could the stabiliser link on either side? If so,would there be any telltale signs.Trying really hard to fight the urge to dismantle the whole front end !!!!!!!!!! :wall:
  7. Thanks.Gives me a starting point to work from.
  8. Just got one problem fixed and another one appears !! My car has developed a nasty rattle from the drivers' side when going over bumps. It's been at two different garages and neither of them found any issues with the suspension components, and it flew the MOT Has anyone any ideas what to start looking at coz it's ruining my enjoyment of the car ? I've checked the Radiator mounts and strut tops, but nothing seems amiss.
  9. Just feeling this one out to see if anyone has either tried it,or has any experience of it. I currently run 205/55R16s all round on my Octy 4X4 Turbo, but was given a pair of Rainsport tyres that are 195/45R16 The question is this.If I put the 195s on the front and leave the rears as they are would I have any issues with the handling. The car does suffer from slight understeer at the moment and I was just wondering if this would improve this any or make it worse. Thanks
  10. Update on this post for anyone that suffers the same problem. It would appear to be a healthy o/s/r bearing gone rogue.According to my local garage the bearing is still smooth with no loose movements which would indicate wear, but it sings like a bird at 20mph plus.Never heard a bearing make a noise like this. The car has been booked in for a replacement to be fitted, and, all being well that should be an end to it.
  11. It's hard to describe the noise. It's a kind of a low pitch whining/rubbing sound. It tends to happen on straight sections of road, and if I pull to a complete stop then drive away again it goes away for a while, then it comes back. It sounds like the noise you would get with bodywork fouling the wheel, but the car's not lowered or modified.Very strange. Weather permitting both front wheels are coming off today so that I can have a look.
  12. Thanks guys. The pitch is not as high as in the Youtube clip,it's more of a whumping noise,so I assume it's just the same problem.Your help is much appreciated, and thanks for the welcome
  13. Hi,Hope someone can help me with this. I recently bought a 52 plate 1.8T 4x4 Elegance Hatch with 116,000 miles on the clock It has recently developed an annoying and infrequent whine from, what sounds like, the offside front wheel. The problem only seems to arise after braking then accelerating. My first thought was the gearbox, but that feels okay and changes up and down no probs. Has anyone any idea what could be causing this. Thanks. :S :S
