  1. Octavia 1.4 TSI ~ 80k miles. I've owned this car for five years and every summer without fail I get the same issue. Basically, then idling in the heat the revs dip and it starts to stutter but never stalls. After about 30 seconds the check engine light will start to blink. After about another 30 seconds, it goes into limp mode and I have to restart the engine and clear the fault code later. The fault code it throws is P0303, misfire on cylinder 3. So this happens normally when stopped at lights. Most times I get away before it goes into limp mode and the check engine lights stops flashing once I'm moving again. Simply revving the engine stationary doesn't help. Under normal driving, not idling, there are no issues. Also this only happens in SUMMER. Over winter, it's fine. Engine gets up to temp normally, idle is fine, no lights, no codes. It actually failed MOT last summer because it was stupidly hot and it went into limp mode when they were checking emissions. I cleared the code/light and gave it back and it passed. I've changed the spark plugs and swapped the coil packs over and it still points at cylinder 3. Any help much appreciated!
  2. Thanks for the info guys. I don't think I can justify the extra cost for the newer engine in a mk3. What are the reasons for not going for a 1.4 TSI mk2? I'd be looking at a 11-12 plate or run-off model so hopefully any engine flaws on the older engine would be fixed by that point? On another note I've seen mk2 1.2 TSIs on Autotrader (late models) that claim to be 16v - is this wrong?
  3. I'm pretty sure I want an Octavia mk2 facelift with TSI engine, either 1.2 or 1.4. Why would I go for one over the other? Observations I've made: I want to get it remapped and from what I've read, the 1.2 can get a fairly decent gain lowering the gap in hp and torque between the two - is this correct? The 1.2 seems to be rarer. I don't have a set budget particularly but I'd be looking somewhere around the £6k mark. This can get me a 1.4 with less than 50k on the clock but I'm struggling to find a 1.2 within this price range. The "newer" 1.2 is a completely different engine based on the new EA211. Does this apply to the 1.4 also? How do I identify whether the engine is the older or newer one? I've noticed that at some point the 1.2 gained 8 extra valves - are the EA211 TSI all 16v? Is there any real price difference between the older and newer TSI engine? If there is, would I be an idiot to get the older one and not stretch to the newer modern engine? I realise all this information is around if I find it but I'm lazy and I'm sure you guys don't mind talking about it
  4. I've read a lot up on them and people are bitching about mainly carbon build-up and how they're gutless and slow. I do want one though. On paper they seem pretty good - 30+ mpg on a run, 150bhp. That's more than enough for me. They also come in £2-3k cheaper than a TFSI or TDI with comparable mileage. Does anybody have any experience with them? Most of the stuff I've read state that they're terrible engines that you should buy a TDI. I've heard more horror stories about the 2.0 TDI than any recent VAG petrol engine though. What would be the point in me buying the "better" TDI engine with - at my budget - over 100k miles on the clock and enjoy its incredible MPG, only for it to be negated by cracked cylinder heads, exploding turbos and failing dual mass flywheels? ramble ramble...
  5. Does anybody know if the Ambiente/Sport spec PFL Octavias come with any kind of MFD that includes MPG, miles in tank etc?
  6. ARB bushes? Are these the collars on the end that bolt to the console?
  7. I don't have a Fabia but I was following this guide so thought this would be the best place to get help. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/92625-fabia-wishbone-bush-replacement-diy-guide/ The missus has a Polo 9n which has the same front suspension. I tried to follow the guide except I also removed the consoles. I had to disconnect the ARB too to remove the consoles. Everything seems fine except for two things. Road noise is increased on crappy road surfaces. I assume though this is because the console bushes are solid and not voided? Handling is much better! But the big problem is the metallic knocking noise. I've only heard it when full-lock right and the suspension takes a shunt (like nudging/dropping off a small kerb). I don't think it happens on the N/S. Any ideas what it could be? I think my camber might be slightly off but it wouldn't cause parts to hit other parts surely? Thanks in advance!
