really quick answer . 1. Yes. 2. No. I also have 2 largish dogs - a Northern Inuit & a GSD & do a trip to the French Alps 4 -5 times a year but needed MORE interior space than the Octavia would give me. You may be better off with the Octavia 4x4 (Scout!) if you don't require this..

sorry just re-read this the calipers are not on the car..... Really easy - don't bother disembling the caliper, you won't see most of it anyway behind the wheel once fitted

Quick & dirty way, jack car up, remove wheel, undo 2 x caliper mounting bolts, mask up the brake hose. Clean caliper with wire brush - carefully - then get TIN of UHT paint - loud colours look best, & paint WITH A BRUSH the caliper - avoid the disc piston & brake pad. Leave it for a few hours then reasemble. You can use a hair dryer to speed up curing time - a little.

I used to undo the sump plug (years ago) but once (on a Ford Fiesta) the plug stripped the thread I decided to find another method. Also now in the days of awkward under-trays then my reasons for crawling around under the car have evaporated. Now as I only use fully synthetic oil I find you don't get any sludge so oil changes are now only via the dipstick sucking it out... It really is that easy.

I also use a Pela 6000 oil pump - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pela-6000-Oil-Pump-Extraction/dp/B002EJ2GUC to drain all my vehicles. This has enough capacity to totally drain all the oil in your engine - 6 litres. Used for the last 6 years, & as long as you warm the oil up first it sucks it out of the dipstick very well. You don't even get dirty hands doing it. How to do it. Get engine fairly warm - hot isn't essential. Turn off engine Remove dipstick & open the Oil filler cap insert tube, push till firm resistance. Attach tube to Pela container Attach Pump to Pela container & pump approx 20 times. Then wait / make tea. When the vacuum starts sucking in air I usually check that the tube hasn't moved from the bottom, give it a few more pumps wait a bit until the vacuum stops remove the tube from engine - If you gently wrap a tissue over the tube as you remove it you also clean it !..., remove the tube from container (plug both ends of tube with tissue), remove pump from container then tip oil into empty container. Takes about 20mins & couldn't be easier. Then change the Oil filter.

Ordered window blinds for it from Palm Automotive yesterday -they are due to arrive today ! - great comms & very quick to post. Had these on my Honda Accord Tourer & they really help keeping the temps cooler in summer (have 2 dogs).. Now to find: Rubber boot mat Ross-Tech Vag-Com cable Bluetooth module.

I'll ck with my local skoda - although the car was serviced when I bought it so that may mean a while to wait.. I find it crazy that this isn't done across the board as it just gives owners a reason to complain about their vehicle...

Hi, I used to own a Octavia 4x4 elegance (1.8T petrol) & liked it till it blew up. Was looking for a bigger car - as now have 2 dogs so ended up wih this in Met Silver & lots of toys & a manual 2010 version. Wading through the controls - damm the maps or firmware has never been upgraded.... & looks as if I need to buy a new bluetooth module too.. But the car is tight as a drum & runs Superb.... It feels much more solid than the Octavia & not as nippy, but pulls like a train...

Hi, I used to have a Mk 1 Octavia Estate 1.8T 4x4 - until the engine stopped working... Then moved over to an Audi Allroad (lovely but horrible on MPG), then to a pair of Honda Accord Tourers (very very good) & now it seems full circle. I pickup next weekend my Skoda Superb 4x4 Estate....- 2nd hand, 170bhp version, manual 6 speed... & am really looking forward to it... Pete
