  1. Sorry for the late reply, I've only just seen this. The adrenaline of having to take it to the garage first thing in the morning so that my son could travel back to Uni took a while to wear off! 😁 Was it wrong to feel a bit vindicated when my very experienced mechanic also seemed to be having bother with it? Anyway, he nipped into the office to get something and the young lad mechanic strolled over and fiddled for about 5 seconds and popped it in. The lovely guys didn't even charge me. They know I'm going back for all my service needs. Thanks very much for the linked info. I still have the new bulbs for my own car sitting waiting to be put in, I might pass them in when it goes in for it's service
  2. Oh great, Thanks both! We've not had the volume problem yet, so that's a treat for later... the shortcut is a great help though so thanks again
  3. Thanks Dave, at least we know what to do now and that it's not just us. Never move off usually without the screen already fired up as need to remove the lane assist before driving as it's a pain in the arse.
  4. Fixed via Youtube! Hold the button in for 10 seconds to reset.
  5. Hi folks, We have a 71 plate 1.5 tsi SE L and today after washing the car, the screen is completely blank (and therefore no music/sat nav/parking sensors/aircon etc). In normal IT style, we've tried turning it off and on again.... Presume it will need to be a "take it to the dealership" job but wondering if there is something obvious that we've missed trying. Anyone come across this before? Thanks for any help.
  6. Sorry, it's H7 bulbs, didn't realise I'd hit the shift key. And yes, in the UK. I'm in Stirling, Scotland.
  7. So I have my H& bulbs, replacing the ones in my son's car first as he's heading back to Uni tomorrow, Got one changed without too much bother but the other one was a bother to get out and now It won't clip back in, gahhh. Any tips? There seems to be no decent youtube videos unfortunately. If all else fails, I'm going to have to see if the garage is free early tomorrow to do it for me. Can't obviously take it anywhere until it's light 🥵
  8. Thanks Steve, much appreciated. There are definitely two bulbs (in the Colour edition anyway). My son is out with the other one so I'll check it later/tomorrow and then get ordering. I'm aware of the faster burn out but to be fair, neither car does many miles so wont be as impactive as it otherwise might. The cars are both 67 plates and the one I mainly use has 8k on it and the other about 14k. One of my son's uses this mostly and he takes it away to Uni even further north with less daylight. He has the benefit of young eyes but he has to drive on unlit NSL roads regularly. I think the plan is to replace the bulbs in both but keep some more basic (aka cheaper) bulbs in the glovebox for emergencies.
  9. Thank you Chris, I'll check that out 😊
  10. Thanks, those were one of the bulbs I was looking at, fed up of trying to drive with the original ones. I suspected I might have to take them out to see but I'm worried if I break one (or two) then we are stuffed and unable to use the car until the new ones arrive. Not much in the way of daylight at the moment!
  11. Hi, hope you folks can help. I'm looking to get a bit brighter bulbs for our two CitiGos but keep coming across conflicting info about what size I need and I want to get it right before ordering. Both are 67 plate, one is a colour edition and the other a SE. Anyone know for definite or how I could find out. I've tried all the websites putting in reg no etc and most say H4 but some say H7. 🤷‍♀️ Thanks for any help you can give. Also open to any opinions on bulbs 😊
  12. Thanks for that Carlston. There are a couple of choices of spares in the brochure in the UK. We'll just need to decide and order in what we need.
  13. Oh thanks for that link @Wino, it wasn't visible to me when i was typing my previous reply.
  14. To be honest we got a good deal on the car, and he's putting it in to get it properly ceramic coated at a fair cost, I think the extra for the tyre should just be added on for peace of mind in the hope that it never needs used either. Looking forward to the upgrade but quite sad to see the old car go. It's never failed an MOT and only needed stuff like new tyres/brake pads and the occasional bulb or washer blade. Biggest cost was getting the timing belt done. We really can't complain.
  15. Not one puncture in 10 and half years is pretty good though, I wonder what the record is?
  16. Thanks for that. 👍 I reckoned we'd need a new one but husband insisted it would be fine. Honestly after 10.5 years, the cost of the wheel is well absorbed and I'd just leave it in the trade in. His next option is to flog it on ebay but who can be bothered with the hassle? Not me that's for sure! Thanks again.
  17. Probably a stupid question, but will the spare tyre we purchased for our Mark II, which is still sitting pristine and unused in our 2011 Octavia Estate, fit in our new Mark IV Hatchback? The size on the spare is 195/ 65 R15. The new car will have the standard SE L wheels (17" Rotare Aero) It looks like the new wheels and the current spare both have 5 holes. If it's relevant, the old car has 225/45 r17 wheels on it. We are trading the old estate in and still have the original inflation kit which we can put back in. We bought a spare tyre as we prefer having one. Neither of the available spare options for the IV are the same size and as what we have but we don't want to buy a new one if we have a perfectly good one already. We are probably picking it up in a week or so, it was on a boat from Germany last weekend 🙂 Thanks for any help.
  18. Our 2011 Octavia estate 1.6mpi (sports suspension) has about 55k on the clock and has been amazing but it's getting to that point where it's age is catching up and we will probably be looking to replace it if any big jobs come up. With that in mind it's probably best to have an idea of what we'd be looking for in case we need to move quickly. Husband loves the car and we've had it since new. He is wary about going to the showrooms for a look as he thinks he'll walk out with a new car and he doesn't want to just yet . Our kids are grown up now so not sure whether we need anything as big but have been directed towards a new Octavia, Scala, Karoq or Kodiac. We don't do huge miles so definitely looking at a petrol but the 1 litre or 1.5? What would be the "must have" models/specs/options. Will obviously do a bit of our own research but just wondered if there was an obvious choice. Rapidly approaching 60 and potential retirement and maybe a dog. Would be mixed town/country/motorway driving. This would probably be our next to last car and we also have a Citigo - well 2 actually but our boys share one. The Citigo is the surprisingly smart choice for tall people btw. Thanks for any help or suggestions
  19. Now thinking maybe I should be doing the vehicle maintenance lessons... At least I can change a tyre on my car.
  20. Found little black plastic thing - he was wondering what that was for! Thank you once again people - I love this forum!
  21. Thanks Will look for wee tool but managed to take one of with a screwdriver..
  22. There are no silly questions... There are covers on them? How do those come off?
  23. Bit of an odd question, but does anyone know if the 2011 Octavia with the 19 inch Alloys originally had locking wheel nuts? Reason I ask is that my husband decided to give our teenagers a bit of a lesson on car maintenance today, went to show them how to change a wheel and found that the wrench/brace doesn't fit the wheel nuts and also that he has a key for locking wheel nuts but there are no locking nuts on the car... We had the entire set of tyres changed last year (first set since new!) and he's now wondering if there has been a bit of jiggery pokery going on. Looks like we'll need an urgent trip to find a brace to fit the nuts tomorrow as sure as eggs is eggs, we will get a puncture and as it is, we have no way of getting the bloody wheel off! Car originally came with inflation thing but we purchased a spare tyre retrospectively from the dealer. From a rough measure it seems that the nuts are at least 23mm. Anyone any ideas?
  24. In the last few weeks, the maps on our Sat Nav are not displaying correctly, it shows areas near by, but not exactly where we are. For example we can drive down our main road but it shows us driving across the local river, over fields and on streets nearby - we reckon it is calculating the distance to destination reasonably correctly, but it is otherwise useless. Is this something that an update to the maps would fix or is it something wrong with the systems ability to identify where we are? Anyone any ideas if it is fixable? We also have Maxidot if that makes any difference. I found the software portal and put in our VIN number but is says no updates available. Thanks
