  1. Hi My son is doing a Mechanical Engineering degree at Manchester uni & has decided to base part of his course work on my car an Octavia Vrs 2011 Cr Tdi 170bhp. Does anyone know the actual gear ratios for each gear & the axel ratio. I have Googled this but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  2. I had a similar problem on a previous Superb, it turned out to be the the engine floor cover that had come loose & at certain speeds made a hell of a sound. Hope this helps.
  3. Just read a similar topic for petrol, does anyone have any comments on the diesel. Have always used sainsburys & no problems but just wondering if buying for e.g Shell diesel at a highr price will produce more mpg hence cheaper price in the long run. Thanks in advance.
  4. Anyone got any experience of Khumos on a Vrs?
  5. Thanks for your replies......I have no intention putting cheap tyres on the car as this what really stops you. Had Khumo tyres on my Superb & they were brilliant although they were a little noisy at the end of their life, but did well. Just wondered as to Khumos were in fact recomended by Skoda & if not does this invalidat the warrany. The Dunlops they came with are absolute rubbish, noisy, do not war well & not too sure about stopping well in the rain, likes to aquaplain. I dont think I drive the car that hard....Keighley- Morecambe......60ish mile..keeping to speed limits etc got 64.3mpg according to the onboard comp. but every now & then the horses are unleashed!! I expected more tyre wear when putting down the power of a vrs but less than 10k with just me & the wife seems a little on the crappy side for Dunlops. What I would like to to know as previously stated if I put Khumos on if they are not recomended by Skoda will this invalidate the warranty or my insurance as advised by blackcircle.com. Thanks again
  6. Hi, Just had my 11plate Vrs serviced (10.000 miles, 1st service) & they advised the car needs new tyres on the front as only 3mm left on both tyres. They quoted £186.00 per tyre. Looked on blackcircle.com & found a chinesse tyre (5* rating all round) for approx £86.00 per tyre inc vat & fitting + balance etc but the speed rating is 'W' not 'Y' as fitted on the Dunlops at the moment. W = speed up to 169 mph approx & Y = speed up to 189 approx. The car is a diesel 2.0 170bhp cr engine max speed 140mph ish. They say if the wrong speed tyre is fitted it can invalidate your insurance is it's classed as a modification & can invalidate you car warranty too as its not a recomended part, including tyre maker! If this invalidates the warranty its like saying the car came with Shell diesel in it but if you used Bp diesel end of warranty. Anyone have any thoughts or comment on this & is this true. P.s have found a place that will fit Khumo tyres, full speed rating for £95.00inc vat fully fitted & balancing etc.....any thoughts on these tyres? Thanks inadvance.
  7. I think they are a good thing, higher visibility the better. Since I got my Vrs in May, in white, I find people are very wary of me, maybe they think I am undercover police trafic officers. But I AM given plenty of room & people especially taxi drivers do not pull out in front of me.
  8. But would duel exhausts re-ignite the old Skoda joke from way back....'what do you call a Skoda with duel exhausts....a wheel barrow'...I hope not. Besides I think my Vrs twin pipes look rather descreet....but also make a subtle statement.
  9. I agree with m0bov's comments, so thats why I bought a Skoda but it's the police who have said it's the car they want, even the finger print guy said it was a professional job as no finger prints at all & part of the door plate taken away where the the molegrips they used would have left teeth marks. They take this away with them so it cannot be connected with any other job they might have done in the area.
  10. Thanks for all your advise & help.....decided to keep the Vrs...why should I let the little toe raggs win & spoil MY enjoyment. Just hope the see sense & think it's too risky to continue...will keep you posted on future developments, but if anyone has any further advise fell free to post. Thanks again everyone.
  11. gadgetman Thanks for your advise...but we do't have that at the moment..... but am suer you can imagine we are under seige...having all locks replaced with top of the range security ones..etc, etc..........but it's the being followed that freaks me.....or am I being (hate to say it but...being a big lad)a bit of a wimp????
  12. Feel for you mate ...same thing happened a few years ago to me.........Pxxxxs like that should be banned from the roads.
  13. tankman57...btw thanks for your help...cheers mate
  14. No...my wife had been reading a bookat the time & when she noticed it was too late, it had driven off at speed.
  15. Hi all......had my Vrs since mid May this year & enjoying every minute of it BUT had a few very strange incidents....very lathargic dog over the last week (drugged), meter readers calling when I do paperless billing...then the big one....attempted break-in. Police called, in their opinion without a shdow-of-a-doubt, its the keys for my beloved Vrs they are after...stolen to order!!!!!they say, a Skoda beggers belief. Saw this guy in a red hatch...watched me patk my car down my drive & saw him again the following day ...thought nothing of it, untill the attempted break in. Told the local plod. Then today the wife tells me a guy in a red hatch drives past our house slowly, takes a long look & drives off at speed. Police informed of this ..told to box my Vrs in at night & they would up their drive pasts. The most unwelcome aspect is that, so i'm informed is that it's a steal to order & my movements have been observed for several days...scary or what...any advise greatly appreciated.
  16. Love the exhausts ...how did you do then?...look sooo sexy
  17. My brakes on my 11 plate Vrs are excellent...never had a problem with them. More to the point they certainly stop you almost instantly when needed...they still surprise me.
  18. £650ish for our Vrs 11 plate...no mods etc, also have no claims protection & £150 excess. We are both 49...wife has mentioned ish. Both have 5 years + no claims discount. Worth a mention though its cheaper for it to be in her name rather than mine, although maybne not for much longer...discrimination etc. Ours is through Aviva...but hoping to bring that down on the next renewal. Hope that helps
  19. It's the speed trap sensor....warning light flashes on the dash when it detects a police car half a mile ahead...giggle.
  20. Hi all, Interested to read your comments ...having a diesel vsr 11 plate, going to work.... 7 miles I average approx between late 40s - late 50s mpg depending on traffic conditions. Recentely went from West yorkshire to Amleside in the Lake District for a charity row the wife was doing for Her local hospice St Gemmas in Leeds. Took it easy & tried to observe the speed limits ....with a few indescressions. Going I got 59mpg & coming back via Penrith, bearing in mind queing traffic for the gypys event in Appleby In Westmorland managed 56mpg on the way back. Dont forget the pulling power of the Cr deisel 30-50 mph seriously makes the petrol equivelent look very slow in comparison. Just a thought.
  21. You could always stick your new plates on top of your existing ones...save a lot of hassel...just a thought.
  22. So what tyres would you recomend for a Vrs...on my superb I had kuhomo fitted & no problems after experiencing a lot of road noise of the factory fitted ones.
  23. Know what you mean about the power at about 2000 rpm....goes like **** off a shovel. Nothing can compare it for the price. Jhe mine has ordinary black mats inside too, but am looking for alternatives as I dont think they will last too long if i find ant reasonable ones will let you know m8.
