  1. My mk3 1.4tdi estate say it does 58mpg but only does 48mpg when you work it out. Dealers have tested it, and there is nothing wrong - surprise surprise.
  2. I agree also. It all hangs on what you were told when you purchased. If you asked about Mirrorlink and were told something not to be true, then you have a case. If Mirrorlink was not mentioned, then i'm afraid you are probably stuck. Interesting to note that there is still a backlog of pre week 22 cars with very low (new) mileage being cleared by Skoda. You would have thought you were fairly safe getting a post week 22 car by now, but it seems that's not always the case.
  3. I remain to be convinced too, but VW group don't lie........................oh wait a minute
  4. Ooh Ooh I have one. Works fine, have not tried anything fancy with it yet. I am waiting for the updated maps, as it already appears about a year out of date. Mine is mounted in the footwell, but will be moved into the glovebox when it goes in for it's first service in March.
  5. I was told that pre week 22 cars CANNOT be upgraded to Smartlink. It is a hardware and software upgrade, and needs installing during the build process apparently. Skoda were meant to be working on an upgrade of sorts for pre week 22 cars to allow Smartlink, but this has never been more than pie in the sky. This is the reason that I pushed for the Kenwood MIB Nav, but this does not add any Mirrorlink or Smartlink capability, it is just a high end Sat Nav.
  6. Yes thanks, I know. My car is on that list, and I have been in contact with Skoda UK, but they are ignoring me currently. Sounds all too familiar.
  7. Funnily enough I don't get 580 miles to a tank......so it spurred me on to work it out: I have been trusting the on board computer MPG, thinking it would be accurate to within 2-3 MPG Since I have had the car I have spent £656 on diesel, which I have averaged at a price of 115.9 per litre. This works out to be 124.53 gallons over almost exactly 6000 miles. Now my car reckons that over a 2000 mile period it achieves 58 MPG (supposed to be 78 MPG) It has averaged since March 23rd .........48.18 MPG........a whole 10 MPG less than the computer reckons. Now this is a full 40% less than the car was tested at in lab conditions. This has made me very wary bearing in mind the current VW situation, are they telling the cars to enhance the MPG? and assuming the driver will believe that figure? It all seems a bit strange to me. I will be booking my Fabia 1.4TDI SEL DSG Estate into my supplying dealer for tests, as 48 MPG is not acceptable.
  8. Very much the later i'm afraid. Prepare for a battle, as you will need your supplying dealer and Skoda UK to go halves each on the cost of the Kenwood. Good luck!
  9. Of course they have not been in touch......they have ignored the issue completely so far. I have contacted them, but a week has passed with no call back. They obviously have enough on their plate with the Euro 5 fiasco, but at the same time, they must still be selling Euro 6 cars that they know are affected. It is just one massive ****-up after another. They don't expect to get Euro 5 sorted until about this time next year, so god knows when they will tackle Euro 6. Trouble is if they continue to sell affected cars, then they will have another years worth of recalls on their hands!
  10. You mention that it happens when you are parking. It does say somewhere in the manual that the car can stall if the angle of steering is extreme when moving slowly - ie: parking. Mine has stalled a couple of times in these conditions, and also asks for a 'manual start'
  11. Funny how all talk of the Fabia Greenline has been dropped as well. That was meant to follow, using the same set-up as the Polo Bluemotion. So they didn't want to release another car with unachievable MPG, they were happy with the ones they already had! As a footnote: My Fabia SEL DSG 1.4TDi Estate is over a 2000 mile period averaging 58mpg, 25% short of the 78mpg advertised.
  12. Quite a few of these Kenwood's being fitted now - good to see that it is still happening.
  13. That's going to be worth a watch. No doubt VW will be bracing themselves for a whole new wave of UK customers giving them a call. Looks like the 'scandal' affects many more models than VW first admitted, across Diesel and Petrol also now.
  14. I think we can all see that VW are going to try to wriggle through any loophole that they can, and are already arguing that they complied with tests on 2016 vehicles. The CO2 and MPG tests have been out of date for years (were they ever useful?) and I agree that the authorities are also to blame for letting the rules and regulations be flouted in such a fashion. Regardless, as you say, VW have still seen the need to push the boundaries of acceptability at the very least, like no other manufacturer seemingly has (at this time) and for that i'm afraid they must be held responsible. If my cars MPG and CO2 have been overstated, then why would I have spent an extra £2000 on a diesel over a petrol? Or why would I have bought the car I did at all? There are man other manufacturers worthy of my money. It will be interesting to see what happens.
  15. I'm not concerned about a change in taxation class, there's no way they can make owners pay for that. It does however potentially affect the residual value and desirability of my vehicle. Also it looks as though the MPG may have been falsified along with the CO2, which is a much bigger issue. It is going to come down to mis-selling and overstating the capability of the vehicle. Lets face it, if true, it is pure fraud. My car is meant to do 78mpg with it's hands tied, but only once have I got close, and usually get low 60's. The worst I have gotten was 45! We all know that MPG testing is outdated, but if they have fiddled those figures as well, then the natives are going to be very restless I would imagine.
  16. Nice - that will be my motor on the list then....... 1.4tdi fabia combi First Mirrorlink, now this!
  17. Afraid not, it is completely separate from Mirrorlink. It is just a high end stand alone Sat Nav.
  18. The Kenwood solves no Mirrorlink issue at all, and does not add any IPhone compatibility at all. Mirrorlink issues in pre week 22 cars cannot be solved by Skoda, as the software is not updateable currently. The Kenwood unit is merely a top spec sat nav system, as it is assumed that Mirrorlink would mainly be used for sat nav, this is the highest level of compensation that Skodaare currently awarding. You will need to have a few lengthy chats with Skoda UK and your dealer, if you feel you have been misinformed as to the capability of the system in your car.
  19. No problem, everyone just needs to keep on at Skoda UK and the supplying dealers. It won't work every time, but a lot of guys and gals are now getting the Kenwood MIB Nav option offered, and most FOC too. At the end of the day, Skoda know they are in the wrong. Glad you have had a good result, I think you will be pleased with the unit, better than trying to use Mirrorlink and it's better than the optional Amundsen Nav too.
  20. Mick, I have been told that I need to pay for updates which load onto a SD card and slot into one of the black boxes, is yours still accessible? where did they put it exactly? I have noticed that the maps are about a year out of date already, but can't see any available updates on the Garmin or Kenwood sites. I was thinking of e-mailing Garmin to ask why a brand new unit should be a year out of date, to see what they say about it. Who are you waiting for a call back from regarding updates? Cheers.
  21. Tried the Nav twice, seems very good quality. It is much better having it transmitted over the cars speakers, but it is very loud. I now have my volume set at 40% which is about right for me. It does reduce music level when the Nav wants to talk as well. This is my first Garmin, and 'she' is a lot more chatty than my TomTom, but not annoyingly so as yet. Nothing else has changed Mick, Bluetooth seems to be unaffected, although I have not yet tried making or receiving a call whilst using the Nav, I don't see any problems though. Radio functions like the TP service still work, and you listen to your music as normal, with the Nav displayed. There are different views you can have of the road ahead, and you can change the info displayed, but again not had much of a chance to play around with these yet. All in all, very good, doubt I would pay £599 for it, but the 'integrated' quality is definitely there, and it does not seem to be an 'afterthought' after market solution. It does appear to be about a year out of date incidentally, so I will be e-mailing Garmin regarding that, as you have to pay for updates (not that I can currently find any)
  22. Glad you have this offer too Mick, it seems that a few guys are getting this 'solution'. Progress in Bedford said mine was the first they had done, but they have another to do at a later date.
  23. It doesn't look great, and in theory it could get knocked, but it is no bigger than a portable hard drive, so risk is minimal. I will be looking into having it put into the glovebox if it becomes a problem, so ask your dealer to have a look for you if you're worried. The only place it will go is far right at the bottom of the glovebox, as the wiring is not very long. Mine has been temporarily sited with double sided tape, so it can be moved, but so far so good.
