  1. I also had this problem and changing the battery worked for me. Richard
  2. Further to my first post, I have just done some further checking and the air con seems now to be blowing colder, it is still not ice cold but it is much cooler than it was earlier and when I drove the car yesterday. The compressor seems to be cutting in as there is an engine change when switching the system on and off and when switching between auto and econ. I am hoping that the air con just needs a service, fingers crossed. The climate code test still does not work as suggested, the little number just goes up to 3?
  3. Hello The air con is not cold on my recently acquired 2005 Octavia 2.0TDI and I hope that someone may be able to help in finding the cause. I have had the car just over a month and although the air was functioning fine it was perhaps not quite as cold as it could be, the rest of the climate system seems to be working fine. It is mainly my wife's car and she doesn't notice anything so I can't say definitely whether it declined gradually or suddenly. Also the car was in for a service last week, is there anything they could have done that could have affected the air con? I hope it just needs a re-gas but am concerned having read some of the forum threads that it could be compressor failure. I found the following advice in another thread : 1. If you can, have look under the bonnet to see if the centre of the air con pump is being turned by the alternator belt, if so it points to a re-gas needed. There should be a sight glass in the pipework somewhere you can see bubbles going through in the gas. I assume it is the air con compressor at the lower left front of the engine that I should be looking at? It is difficult to see properly but the pulley is turning, do I need to specifically check the centre rather than just the pulley? Any idea where the sight glass is? 2. "With the engine running press the "ECON" and air demist buttons together. The displays should change. Turn the left dial until the big number in the left display changes to 19. Turn the middle dial until the little number in the left display changes to 4. The right display will then show the speed of the air con pump in hundreds of RPM." Having turned the left dial to bring up 19 on the left display when I turned the centre dial the little number only went up to 3 and not 4 as described. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this would be? I would be very grateful for any advice anyone could offer. Richard
  4. Hello I am hoping that someone may either have, or be able to point me in the direction of, a workshop service check sheet for a 2005 2.0TDI Octavia. If not then even just the list of service checks from an owners manual would be useful as I don't have one. Thank you Richard
  5. Hello All Having used the site for info when looking for a car, I have now joined your ranks and bought a 2005 Octavia 2.0. So far I am delighted with the car and it is surpassing expectations, so much better than the Toyota Avensis it replaces. I have a bunch of questions that will follow but I thought I should introduce myself first. Cheers Richard
