  1. ok duly noted - my bad Feel free to delete this thread - was just trying to be helpful to the members of the forum as they've been most helpful in the past when I owned Skodas. But I guess you dont want it turning into an on-line car boot sale. The Fabia VRS has gone now and a Fiesta has replaced it. So I wont be around here much anymore. Bye and thanks.
  2. In case anyone is interested Ive put a set of used winter tyres on Gumtree. Thought Id give it a go instead of Ebay for a change. http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/winter-tyres-kumho-izen-kw23-20545-r16-87h-xl/1088258069
  3. Got a gasket from Eurocarparts today- about £14. According to ElsaWin you need to put a little sealant in the corners where the camshaft bearing caps meet the gasket.
  4. I'll have a look for that too. Can I use the usual RTV gasket sealant with the new gasket instead of the Skoda stuff ?
  5. Just found the gasket at Eurocarparts - just down the road.
  6. I have an oil leak from the rear of the rocker cover on my 2005 VRS (112K miles) and its also weeping slightly at the front too. It doesnt look very difficult to replace (Ive just done the clutch myself ) but the workshop shop manual mentions a sealant (D 454 300 A2 ). Is this something special or will any silicone based gasket sealant do the job in sealing a replacement gasket. Where can I get a gasket other than the Skoda dealership - who never have anything in stock ? Thanking you in advance.
  7. Gearbox back on - what a pig of a job that was - could not have done without the wife's help.
  8. Do you need special tools for the cambelt change ? Ive just done the clutch on my VRS and have noticed a small coolant leak coming from the RH side of the engine - water pump maybe ? Need to investigate this next week sometime.
  9. cheers for all that info. im pretty sure its leaking from the gearbox drive shaft seal. im replacing that and concentric slave/release bearing
  10. Cheers mate - thats what I needed to know. Ive ordered the correct one - hopefully if I can get it tomorrow I'll get the gearbox back on this weekend,
  11. You'd certainly think so from the photo. Can you tell me the part number of the drive shaft oil seal ?
  12. My 2005 VRS service booklet says cambelt change on the PD engine is 120,000km (about 75K miles) with no mention of years. Are you being extra cautious (no bad thing for such a critical component) or is the servicing different for a non -VRS diesel or has it been revised ?
  13. 55plate Mk1 VRS I need to replace the oil seal on the gearbox drive shaft. see pic clutch.bmp I went to the local Skoda dealer to order one and I have to say it wasnt really clear from their computer which oil seal I needed from the list offered on the screen, as all the pics were from the LH side of the gearbox not the clutch side. Unfortunately nothing was labelled "input shaft oil seal" or similar. The Parts Dept guy wasnt sure which one it was either. In the end we went for part number K02M311113A. Its now on order . £2.89. Is this the correct seal or do I need a different one. The gearbox code is HDS, if thats any help.
  14. Actually ive found loads of CVCs on the internet , at a variety of prices. From £35 to £120. Any ideas on how to tell where the contamination is coming from ?
