  1. I'm afraid I have no reply but I cannot see that Skoda have made any comment yet. Is my May 2011 Octavia 1.6tdi likely to be affected? It has passed two MOT emissions tests since purchase - is this different to what is in the news at present. Thanks David
  2. Just to log another failure like this on my May 2011 Octavia 1.6tdi after 26000 miles. Glad that it is under warranty still reading the costs quoted. Dealer says it is a 5 hour job. On positive side Skoda Assistance very helpful in recovering vehicle and providing replacement Octavia (63 plate petrol) whilst mine is with dealer. Apparently VAG just installed new parts computer system which is problematic so I'm not holding my breath as to how quickly the part is delivered.
  3. I encountered this problem a few weeks ago on my May 11 Elegance model and found it impossible to gain access by any of these suggestions. The bulb 'failure' was intermittent - not working for a few days then coming back on for a few more days! I assumed faulty bulb. I took the car to the Skoda dealer in the end and it seems this is a known fault. Under warranty new modified bulb holders were fitted and new long life bulbs and it has been ok since. Warning I did have to press the light fitting hard in place after (as one reader advises) as after return from the garage I noticed it was not fitted one side! Skoda must realise that it is difficult to change these bulbs hence the long life bulbs. So if I had just changed the bulb (if I had managed to get in!) I would have missed this modification. Moral - if within warranty go to the dealer! Davernip
  4. Thanks for your responses and links. Just wanted to be sure. Here's to safe winter driving. Davernip
  5. Does anyone have an easy answer to this - I have just bought from Skoda steel wheels for winter tyres; these are 16 inch 6J. I have alloys on the car 16 inch 6.5J and the steel spare I bought with the car is also 16 inch 6.5J. These are all fitted with 205/55/R16 tyres. I questioned the dealer why the 4 winter steels wheels were 6J and was told this was the standard winter wheel for my car. The tyre dealer is just questioning using the 205/55/R16 tyres I have bought on these new rims although my reading is that they will fit. Nobody can answer why 6.5J rims are not supplied. I am waiting for Skoda UK to return my call after they have checked the chassis number etc. I have not found this particularly mentioned on the winter tyre threads. Thanks Davernip
  6. I too have used Tesco diesel for a number of years with no problems apparent. At the moment my average consumption is around 60mpg which is most satisfactory; up to 70mpg on a good long journey of appropriate roads (eg Bath to Hereford) with not too much motorway.
  7. Thanks folks for this. I suppose my question was really about the legality of using a spare which was a summer tyre if I had winter tyres on the other three wheels. I now gather from a local dealer this is legal in the uk but not abroad. Also not ideal in terms of handling but as a first aid measure as it were. I do not intend to purchase a 5ht one! I have found the local Skoda dealer competitive on price.
  8. Hi. I am new to Skoda. Took delivery of Octavia 1.6 tdi in May 2011 after 5 month wait but so far very pleased with purchase. I have been looking at topic on winter tyres. I wondered what one does about the spare as I have a 16 inch steel spare with summer tyre. If I have 16 inch winter steels and tyres in the event of a puncture can I use the spare as it is or should I have a winter spare? Sorry if this sounds ignorant but thought I would ask the question!
