The CR170's biggest limitation on tuning is the fuelling - but I should be able to see circa 270bhp with the DPF out and a better turbo. Cheers
  6. Fine mate. Absolutely no wind noise and vibrations - I'm assuming whoever's said that hasnt added enough nuts/bolts! It was about £130 for the anti lift kit. Definitely worth it.
  7. Actually very good. I wouldn't leave them in otherwise. I never get flashed (which is always a good sign!) and against a wall from varying distances the beam pattern is crisp and correct.
  8. Soooo Just fitted an anti-lift kit from DPM Performance to the Octy. Superb service as always. Wheel hop is drastically reduced and the handling is much better. With the suspension and this mod, it's becoming a much better car to drive as I add each item. Next up will be ARB's! Whiteline Anti Lift Kit: All fitted! I then got the car tracked. Given it a bit of a battering down some B roads last night and I have to say i'm very impressed!
  9. So, long time no updates... Had the car remapped: 205bhp 420nm Much better! Changed a knackered wheel bearing. One of the bolts was shot Did some driving... Fitted LED headlights: Fitted a ttRs shortshifter kit, which I got from Darkside Developments: Really impressed with the ttRs unit - slightly shorter throw making for much more enjoyable gear changes! ARB's next, i think!
  10. Hi guys, Haven't updated this for a while. So after replacing discs/pads all round, I had a horrendous squeaking noise when the brakes were hot. I did everything possible to try and track it down, including tolerances/OEM greases/caliper rebuilds etc. Eventually it transpired I had a dodgy set of Pagid brake pads. This is not something i've ever had from them before, but they have been sent back as they confirmed they were aware of a bad batch of rear pads for the Octavia. Before I diagnosed, between taking the brakes apart around 30 times a corner, I replaced the OSR caliper as it was sticking. The NSR was also rebuilt. Some pics: Knackered old caliper The garage (I live in here) Also installed a sub/amp I have had for a while. Bought a ISO plug loom adapter from Amazon to give me RCA outputs. Removed most the interior to run the cables in properly. They are all segregated and loom-taped. Tried to be as OEM as possible. Taking the boot apart Temporary fuse mount I made up, I have since redone this so it sits perfectly between the air filter/battery and is easy to check/change in case of issue. Sub in place And then a couple from a post-brake-fix-FINALLY b-road hoon. So nice driving the car again without an annoying squeak!! I've since fitted a bass controller to the ash tray, and done some other bits and bobs. Pictures to follow..

  12. Hi all, I have a mk2 facelift blackline estate, TDI vRS. So far I have replaced all discs/pads (with OEM Pagid) - everything is correctly greased with the right stuff, all hardware is new (anti rattle etc). I have rebuilt the NSR caliper - when taking it apart it was perfect so didn't really need doing I have replaced the OSR caliper with a new OEM unit I have developed a horrendous brake squeak that started before I changed the brakes. I have done so in order to try and eliminate it. I originally thought it was coming from the front, but now I think it is the rear. A few symptoms: Brake squeal when hot (plus 10 minutes of driving) Brake squeal stops if I push the button in on the handbrake and lift it slightly when driving (this indicates rear brakes) The noise is almost consistent. I can relieve it by dabbing the brakes but it comes back within a couple of seconds The noise seems to be worse occasionally when turning right The noise is a high pitched, metal on metal sound that is rotational which suggests brake drag The pads have worn evenly on all calipers I have rebuilt the brakes (on every corner) at least 5 times All greases etc used are OEM spec and exactly correct, applied correctly The anti rattle shims are all new and in great condition. All surfaces the pads touch have been wire brushed and are fine I have taken a small edge off each of the pad "ears" to ensure they are not catching when being applied All pads move smoothly in position It is 100% not the back plates. They are not catching at all - believe me I have ensured they are all in the correct position and have even taken them off and refurbished them I have chamfered the top edge of each brake pad to ensure it is not catching on the outer edge of the disc I am a very competent mechanic, and this is the first time I have ever come across something like this If I don't sort it out soon I am going to lose my mind! All have seemingly no play but someone suggested on faceyb owners club group that he had something similar and the bearing fell apart when he removed it Setting up a microphone system to ensure I am focusing on the correct corner. Its been pretty much impossible to identify whilst driving and I have got someone else to drive the car so I can follow it around and try to hear it about 5 times with no luck. Any help would be HUGELY appreciated, its doing my head in!!!
  13. Some updates... Got the car tracked as seen above and then drove to South of France for my holidays. Some awesome views and epic roads. Did 3k miles in total (including driving whilst out there). Didn't miss a beat. Parked up in Monaco. What a ridiculous car park! When I got back I painted the engine cover with HT paint:
  14. Keep forgetting to update this. So I fitted ATE Blue brake fluid, and whilst I was in and around the suspension I noticed one of the rear coil springs had snapped. I got on to @MAW who was selling his (hardly used) setup as he had purchase some Kw kit: Got it fitted. When I took it apart I really struggled with a track rod end, until I noticed the state of it. Someones had a go at it before! Went and got a new one and fitted it. And apart... All done! And the broken rear coil.. I then popped to my mates to have it tracked up. 100 times better now! Will post some more "after" pictures when I've taken them. I was meant to do it after fitting but was more interested in beer and a takeaway. Cheers

  19. Ok so had my headlights tinted this week. For anyone in Hampshire (or prepared to travel)... I went to the following vinyl wrappers: https://www.car-customs.co.uk/ Fantastic service, excellent price, top quality film used. Very happy (and i'm a perfectionist!) A couple of pictures (better after pictures will follow once shes clean!) Before: During: After: I have since driven at night and noticed no difference whatsoever with light output. I would suggest this is the quality of film used, as on previous cars it has definitely affected the headlights.

  21. From a friend whos a machinist. He also sells them through ebay. I think he only charges about 30 quid a set delivered (with bolts!) But yes, very good quality. Heres me fitting them (and doing some other bits this weekend): Before spacers: After: Wanted to get rid of the Octavia badge but leave the vRS one. Had seen a few people try this with no success (and outlining where they were applied before the paint was dry in the factory). I took one letter off and was confident I could do it properly Round 1 is this stuff, its not bad! : Round 2 is white spirit for the tough bits. Then clay bar/polish - checking to make sure I haven't left any spirit on the paint And finally a quick bath: I then spent today prepping my garage for the bench i'm going to be building shortly. Can't wait. Got a load of stuff that I need to get in the shed as it's been in the garage over winter.... The new compressor I have there is a step up from my previous, this ones 100 litre. Keeps going for so much longer, really enjoying it. Next up i'm looking at lowering options. All 10+ previous cars have been on coilovers, but I want this to remain good on all roads. I'm considering springs, and have looked at H&R's as a potential option. I have a feeling I will still end up with coilovers though as I love the variety of adjustment. These will fit up the same as some of my old VAG cars from having a brief look underneath, so will be straight forward.
