  1. So i replaced the original PCV, which had a torn diaphragm, about 2 years ago. The replacement was an aftermarket one, then I replaced that again last week with a febi bilstein one. I've ordered a vacuum tester and if that shows a high value then I will order up a genuine PCV valve as it must be that which is causing the excess vacuum.
  2. From what I understand hose 4 goes to the intake manifold, that is where the vacuum originates from at idle. Hose 15 is the rear breather hose which joins in just before the turbo which is where the vacuum comes from when under boost. My issue always occurs at idle
  3. Hi folks, I would be grateful if anybody could help me with excessive engine vacuum in my 2008 2.0 TFSI VRS with 190,000 miles (Ive had it since 3 years old). I first became aware of an issue when it threw up the CEL, code P0171 - lean burn bank 1. The car drives perfectly, pulls very well etc, idles normally, no blue smoke or excess oil consumption. I checked for vacuum leaks and found a split hose at the brake vacuum pump which I have now sorted. There are no leaks remaining. Problem is that there remains to be HUGE vacuum on the engine. It is impossible to remove the oil filler cap while the engine is running. To be able to remove it I have to break the vacuum by removing the dipstick and then struggle with 2 hands to remove the filler cap. Also since repairing the vacuum leak when I switch the engine off I can hear oil gurgling from within the engine which occurs until the vacuum is dissipated. I replaced the PCV valve in the hope of resolving the vacuum issue, even though the existing valve appeared to be working normally. Does anybody know why i could have such a huge vacuum? I'm concerned that oil may be vacuuming to where it should not be and hence the gurgling! Many thanks
  4. My 08 Octavia VRS TFSI needs a new ECU according to the dealer. The part code I have been quoted is 1Z0907115D. Does anybody know if the "D" at the end is essential or would a 1Z0907115 ECU work fine? Also has anybody ever used any refurb companies?
  5. Just wondering if anybody has come across a similar problem to this before. My 2008 Octavia VRS TFSI with 140,000 miles had been driving 100% until a few seconds after going over a bump in the road. The EPC light, engine light and ESP lights came on putting the car in to a limp home mode - it sounds rough at tick over, like it is running on 3 cylinders. I plugged in my OBD2 reader and got the codes P2101 and P2106. i.e. throttle actuator control. After letting it sit for an hour and disconnecting the battery the codes cleared and it drove 100% again for 200 miles but the problem has recurred. I have brought it to my local skoda garage who confirmed the throttle actuator control code. The difficulty is that the live data from the throttle body is all perfect so they are at a loss as to what could be causing it. I asked the mechanic and they have never seen an issue like this before. Has anybody here come across a similar issue? Thanks in advance
  6. Looks like the hand brake mechanism on the other rear calliper is sticky and it does not bind if the hand brake is not used recently. Time replace that calliper too
  7. Has anybody else expereinced this problem when only replacing one calliper?
  8. Thanks for all your help folks. I managed to get the part this afternoon and fitted a new calliper. Unfortunately it seems that the rear calliper on the other side is now binding while previously it did not. Any ideas? Should the rear callipers be replaced in pairs or have I done something wrong? I did not change the handbrake adjustment as I did not fit new pads/discs
  9. I removed by nearside rear calliper and need to replace the part labeled as number 22 on the diagram below. It is the last bit of steel brake line that goes in to the calliper, only a few inches long. Does anybody know where to get this part? Hopefully the dealer will be able to source it. Or is there an alternative?
  10. There is a link to a fabulous website where if you put in your vehicle details it gives a list of all the other car makes and models whose alloy wheels would fit. I can't find the link! I know it is in one of the winter tyre threads. Anybody know where I mean? Thanks again
  11. Perfect, Just the answer I was looking for. Any chance you could PM the document to me as well please so that I can check my engine code. Many thanks
  12. Anyone know? Waiting to hear back from skoda uk but i reckon it will be a while!
  13. Is the load rating XL still required for 16 inch steels on an estate? My Tyres say no!
  14. thank ChrisRS. Spoke to greenlight insurance this morning and they said that as long as the tyres are road legal and I'm not travelling more quickly than the speed rating on the tyre then I'm covered. On mytyres.co.uk when I search under my estate vehicle no XL tyres are listed under the complete wheels steel rims section. I tried phoning them but the call centre doesn't deal with "technical queries". I can buy XL tyres from them separately but I need their cheap steel rims too! I'm waiting for an email reply now.
  15. This is a good thread! I'm going to order a set of 16 inch winter wheels and tyres this week. I will likely go for steels. What is the required winter tyre specification for a 2008 VRS estate? In my manual it says "the permissible sizes of winter tyres are stated in your vehicle documents." What is this referring to? When I look inside the fuel filler cap it does not given recommendations for winter tyre sizes. I assume it is 205/55 R16 but what is the recommended load index and speed rating? Thanks
  16. My CD multichanger has stopped working in my 08 vrs. There is power getting to it as the front of the changer lights up but it will not play or eject discs. The screen says "error" Any ideas on how to proceed? Thanks
  17. £369 for cambelt and water pump done by skoda is a great price. Has anybody got this price on a VRS? according to the website it doesn't exclude it but obviously it is a more difficult job.
  18. Please excuse my dumbness but I'm not sure what pipes these are. Is it the ones that I have circled in the photo? Thanks
  19. My 2008 vrs TFSI with 60k miles has developed a rattle. I have search the other rattle threads and haven't been able to find a similar problem. My rattle is only heard at tick over and only from inside the car. It it a very light tapping sound, but audible to all in the car. It is like a plastic or light metal flat vibrating with the engine vibration at tick over. There is no noise from anything slightly over tick over or going over bumps etc. It seems to be coming from within the dash but is not related to fan speed, depressing the clutch or anything in storage compartments and lightly thumping the dash does not change it. It is always present at tick over. Any ideas what it could be? And also could it be covered under warranty? Many thanks
  20. You have got it in one! Interesting to hear that your OEM flaps cut 75% of the dirt. It's looking like I might have to use your idea of trimming the rally flaps. Problem with those ones from ebay is that there is nothing for them to screw into on the rear.
