  1. Sorry for late reply been away bit. I looked at another 2.5V6 with 60k miles and two 1.9 AWX's with 95k and 130k respectively. Not many Superbs about at that age and reasonable miles, loads more Passats, I looked at 3 of them before finding one I was happy with.
  2. That's what I set out to do on Sunday and have failed. I saw three 2004/5 Superbs and none were as described or accurate in their responses to my questions. Full service history - with 28k miles between first and second service? Unmarked bodywork - well except for the dents and scratches! Drives as new - clutch at very top of travel, all 4 discs shot, suspension squeaks, interior lights and door mirrors not working. Found a pristine 2005 Passat estate with the AWX engine, 55k miles 5 main dealer services, drives great (not as comfy as a Superb but still good) and showed 54mpg over a brisk and mixed 20 minute test drive. Thanks for the guidance
  3. For those interested the car is Hotel-November-Five-Five-Oscar-Zulu-Victor. I won't name the dealer here and as I've said elsewhere the car may be fine once repaired and it may have been an unlucky for me incident but if anybody in the west midlands wants to pm me if interested then feel free to do so.
  4. No problem, I was happy with the car up to the point it went wrong. I suspect it didn't trash the engine as it had compression but it sounded piggin' awful and the Skoda Assist chap thought it could be damaged. So I lost quite a lot of confidence in the quality of the work done and wasn't happy with the offer to fix the car. They had the chance to get it right and failed to do so. Who was going to fix the car, the same person who fitted the belts? They were also supposed to fit a new water pump but didn't saying the old one wasn't leaking so it was ok. It was going to go back to have this sorted but to me it reaffirmed my view of poor working practices. I might have over reacted in rejecting the car and it could well have been fixed back to 100% with no related issues in the future but not being technical I couldn't make an informed judgement on this so rightly or wrongly I took my decision.
  5. Will gladly do so once the money has hit my bank account
  6. dieselV6 - you're right with your diagnosis. The RAC chap went straight to the belts and the cam belt was slack, slack enough he could nearly pull it off by hand and easily with a screwdriver. He said its quite likely to have jumped and that the noises I could hear would be the timing as you say. So car back to stealers, my money back in my bank account and the search for a car continues ..... Thanks for the replies, this is a great place
  7. Hi, picked up my new to me Superb 2.5 TDI auto/tip, 2005, 55k miles, full SSH and its stalling on low revs after a great first 100 miles from the dealer. I can't believe how good it is cruising on the motorways but this one is stalling on me every time I drop to parking speeds either after the long motorway run or a short journey. Revs seem to be 650 to 800. I test drove it last week and it was fine but they've since done the cambelts change as part of the deal. It starts fine each time after it stalls but clearly it isn't right. I've contacted the dealer (main Skoda) and logged my concerns and right to reject but very interested to hear if anybody here has some views on what might be the trouble as this apart I'm completely smitten with its abilities and comfort!
  8. Thanks to all for this topic, it's been an interesting and very useful read for me as I'm picking up my new (to me) Superb (in a few days time and am interested in the V6 diesel and biodiesel suitability. I hope to be a regular contributor affirming the V6 qualities and legendary reliability as I clock up the miles on the UK and French motorways. It's a surprise to see so many dead links and duff phone numbers when searching for biodiesel suppliers but I guess Gordon Brown removing the 20p a litre subsidy did for many of them. Without wishing to hijack this thread, can anybody recommend a supplier of good quality biodiesel in the M4 corridor or the Gloucester to Worcester area?
  9. Hi, on visiting my "local" Skoda dealer today and chatting to one of the sales guys he told me that he had recently taken an order for a 1.2 Yeti and had been given October as a delivery date. Allegedly during the scrappage season Skoda estimated they'd sell 5,000 cars but it turned out to be 12,000! Sort of explains the delivery issues across the range. :S
  10. Imagine if just 10% of all the VAG marque dealers in the UK somehow managed to spot a remap, wouldn't forums like this be inundated with tales of chest beating grief, woe and warranty avoidance isssues? How may remapped cars from VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda pass through the dealer network for routine servicing and get "spotted?" None of mine over many years which include a Passat, a Fabia VrS and an Octavia VRS all serviced by main dealers with 180,000 miles covered between them. I'd be more worried about the insurance company assessing a totalled vRS valued at £10k taking an extra few minutes to plug in their laptop with VAGCOM to check the ECU just incase it's been tinkered with to opt out of their liability.
  11. >>ANyway, its on a lease due for renewal next year and I'm therefore already thinking about the next car. Smart move - best get your order in now then and you might get it in time! I went for the Elegance over the SE as I wanted the Xenons (with the adaptive lights switchable for continental driving), full leather, integrated bluetooth and the sat nav. The others are just nice to have especially the heated and electric seats. If I could I'd swap the 18" alloys for 17" ones for the small ride improvement but the dealer says no so they'll be an offer on here sometime in September.
  12. Nice one! That's a day less than 9 weeks from date of order and almost half the time I'm going to have to wait for mine - never mind washing it and posting the pics just lend me your car!
  13. I've had a petrol vRS and I've test driven a Scout PD before going for the barge like Superb estate. A remapped Scout could produce 185 bp (Revo for example) which is around the same as the vRS as they produce up to 20 bhp more than the quoted 170 bhp. The vRS will have a much lower and quite a bit firmer suspension so it's going to handle better and roll less and look a bit more squat (if thats your thing) The Scout will give you better traction in the wet and other slippy conditions and won't look like a vRS (I think the Scout looks great!) so slightly Q car like especially if remapped. I'd take the Scout because having had 4WD I don't want another car without it but if you really want spirited driving and sporty handling then the vRS is waiting for you!
  14. Ordered estate 4x4 TDi last week, told at the time very likely end of July delivery - dealer rang today saying panoramic roof option will delay it to mid September at the earliest - that's about 5 months. :( 3 months wait was going to be tough enough but 5 months?
