  1. Hi guys, quick post as don't frequent these forums very often, however if you check out my last few posts you will see that i got a brand new Octavia TSI company car and the aircon was crap, i learned from comments on my thread that this was a common problem with the Octavias, and whilst browsing Google it appeared obvious that Skodas aircon was crap. So, i almost gave up thinking i had to live with it for the next 4 years until its due for renewal, and thought it was a small price to pay for such a great performing and super quick car. However, i phoned up Skoda, booked it in for a service, mentioned about the aircon, they checked it, it had no gas in it (brand new car had no gas!), they regassed it, said it was working, delivered it back to me, from the moment i received it back it still didn't work, left it for a week, thought it was obviously just crap aircon as mentioned above, as they said it was working fine, and was going to give up, but one last phone call, they came back out, took it back, noticed it ran out of gas again, ended up finding it was a very small leak on the radiator (think it was the aircon radiator if they have their own one?). Anyway, had the car back about 2 months now and its still ice cold like a -20 freezer, does the job fantastic and certainly nothing wrong with Skoda airconditioning i can assure you! I hope the above may help others who have this problem, as they certainly are a nice cracking car. All the best.
  2. I've been driving today on the motorway with the windows open, its been so hot and the ac is doing nothing. Will see what Thursday brings when it goes into the dealer to be looked at, i'm hoping something can be done, its a shame, as the car is fantastic in every aspect apart from the a/c,,,,,,but now i'm not looking forward to the summer....
  3. Hi guys, just been reading this thread, i've got a 61 plate Octavia 1.8 TSI Estate, its a fantastic car, really quick and comfortable, but the aircon is crap! Mine is a company car and i've got it going in to the garage on Thursday to have the air con looked at and also the petrol cap pencil switch has broken and needs adjusting each time before you can close the petrol cap. As i've said, mine is only a 61 plate, but the air con feels just like having a non aircon car on cold blower, its terrible, i've had cars in the past whereby when you get out of the car after having the aircon on you can feel the heat hit you when you get out of the car where the air con inside the car is so cold, but not this car, the inside temperature only feels a couple of degrees less than the outside.....
  4. Cheers mate.y daughter told me today that you have to press it twice (she's only 11!!) But thought there must be something wrong as sounds a silly idea, what reason for that? Also what is maxidot?
  5. Why does only the drivers door open on the remote? It is annoying if I want to get in the rear passenger seats and have to open the drivers door first, lean in and press the door open button near the gearstick....
  6. Ah - Ticket Holder, why didn't i think of that! Re accelerating the VRS every time you drive it, i'm like that with this 1.8TSI, second from 1500rpm all the way up to nearly 5000rpm then straight into 3rd and back through the rev range, makes you laugh at the thought of it being a Skoda!
  7. P.S. Two questions:- Can i put the 1.8tsi through a car wash, it has a bee sting arial on the roof?? Do i need to unscrew it first? Will it break in the car wash? What is that piece of clear plastic strip jutting out from the side of the right hand pillar running from the roof to the top of the bonnet, it sticks out and runs accross the window by about 3-4 inches?
  8. Know what you mean by the stereo compared with the Mazda, although its perfectly good, and if you hadn't anything to compare it against you would think it was really good, its not 'as good' as the Mazda, was listening to a local readio station this morning and the guy and woman presenter sounded completely different people!! However, the speed and sheer performance of the car far outweighs any slight difference in the voices from the stereo, bearing in mind what the 1.8tsi is like, i would love to drive a VRS as that must be blinking awesome!
  9. Blimey, i thought Golfs would be better quality due to the price!
  10. Got me car today, and boy is it fast!!! Can't believe the engine on this car (1.8TSI), i've driven some fast cars in my years, the Fiesta and Escort RS Turbos of the 90's, Alfas, etc., however this car is fast no matter what, but when you then factor in that its an estate car, well, i can now have my cake and eat it! Drives really nice, really light on the steering, smooth and quiet engine, good visibility, the large rectangular rear view mirror coupled with the rectangular rear window provides good visibility, unlike the rear window of the Insignia Estate that i test drove, which was like looking down a tunnel, due to the rounded top corners of the window, and also terrible side view/blind spots. You don't even realise you are driving an estate car. However, if i'm critical, i would say that it IS noticeable where SKODA have cut corners on the interior, for example the window buttons, pedals, seat adjustment handle, the sunglasses flap ontop of the dashboard etc., and also the centre console could have done with being a little more upmarket, however apart from that i think the car is great, and i'm very happy with my choice. That engine will certainly keep me entertained for the next 4 years!
  11. Thanks Simon, not too keen on the liner, however that rubber mat definetely looks like the way to go!
  12. Hi Guys, Update: I ordered the Skoda Octavia 1.8 TSI Estate a few months ago now and i'm taking delivery of it on Tuesday!! It has been ready for delivery for a few weeks now, however unfortunately a roof panel of a coach decided to blow off the other morning and came hurtling towards me whilst in the fast lane of a motorway and caused damage to my Mazda 6 company car, so that had to be repaired first before the new car being swapped over (they are lease cars). Cant wait to get the Skoda, have already made enquiries yesterday regarding a dog guard for the back (£109 fitted) and a thick rubber mat for the floor space in the back to stop the dogs slipping around and it can be jetwashed down if required (about £50.00), all i need now is a way to stop my dogs becoming stuck to the back window when i pull away with the 160 horses this car lets out!! Will post up some piccies when it arrives P.S. Any of you guys know better costs for the above accessories?
  13. Thanks mate, my children are 7 and 10, so won't be an issue. I know what you mean about the Superb though, i sat in the front of one the other day in a showroom, the interior was stunning, and when i turned around to look in the back passenger area it brought a big smile to my face, it was like a cinema room!!! I would have got the Superb but they only have it on my list in a 1.4 and i understand the enging isn't powerful enough for that size car?
