  1. I received the email about a week after I was hit from behind. I'm still going to sign up though. This is the first claim I've ever dealt with and it's such a ball-ache. I went with my insurer's recommended repairer (Lookers Vauxhall) and they've been shabby from day one. 2 visits later, the 2nd due to unsatisfactory repair work, they've had my car for 5 weeks in total so far and I've been left with a crappy 1.2 diesel Corsa to see me through a 30mile round trip 5 days a week. I miss my vRS so much Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
  2. Keep an eye on your fluid level when winding it in too Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
  3. Clockwise. It'll be tight, but be patient. Use a spanner for extra leverage if you have to as the t-bar that comes with most kits aren't up to the task Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
  4. Well, got the actuator replaced for 180 all in. The diaphragm had split, therefore loss of vacuum and limited/non existent boost. It's been a week since it was replaced but the boost still seems to be inconsistent, ie. Hesitant at low range, none or plenty of boost in higher gears, louder noises than normal. I'm stumped Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
  5. If its the actuator that's faulty on my turbo am I to expect any boost at all? I drove into work this morning and I swear it had a good poke...perhaps I'm imagining things, it is stupidly early in the morning!
  6. Found this for a ton: http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/vw-2-0-16v-tdi-common-rail-vacuum-actuator-for-cbaa-cbab.html But if you give the dealer the part number they'll get em in. I'm still waiting for a quote on mine Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
  7. Yes, I think so. I have one but don't know how to use it on this procedure just yet
  8. Found this. Good start http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/vw-2-0-16v-tdi-common-rail-vacuum-actuator-for-cbaa-cbab.html
  9. I was talking to a local VAG specialist about this problem for a 2nd opinion but he wouldn't accept it as being just the actuator. He said "Nope, actuator's fine. It's the dpf. It's common problem, as we have four in already with the same fault. Gonna be expensive I'm afraid though." This was the same bloke who tried to convince me that both door mirror indicators needed replacing during last year's service...I declined and found they both worked fine on the way home. Robbin' get!
  10. Cheers, Dallan. What was the damage in the end? ...(to your wallet, I mean)
  11. Oh, well I can sack off fitting it myself then I've looked into the procedure and I wouldn't stand a chance!! Besides, I don't have VCDS (yet).
  12. Cheers. Nice one. The sensor/actuator would be my next option if the cleanout didn't work. That way it'll be a bonus if I can fix it without lifting a spanner, if it isn't fixed then at least its been cleaned out anyway. I've already made a note of this kit; I've seen it for 135 on eBay (WIN) but I don't have a penny's worth of knowledge on how to fit it (LOSE!). Could I be putting the car at risk if I drive it in its current state? I also know nowt about extended warranties...are they worth looking into??
  13. Hello all. My vRS is having some boost issues. Its a 2.0 CR CEGA Engine and im getting flashing glowplug and MIL Light on the dash VAGCOM says 009571 - Turbocharger Boost Control Position Sensor Circuit: Implausible Signal The coil light only comes on after I've been driving for a while and have to slow down to stop at lights/traffic. The boost is intermittent. Sometimes it has a little tug, other times nothing at all / flat spots. It makes a whining noise similar to a police siren when changing up. I have to be honest, and I admit that I drive a 30mile commute through Liverpool 5 days a week and most of the time the driving conditions are not the best for the type of car (or driver!) I think, if I get this problem fixed, I'll add a couple of motorway trips on the homebound commute to open my baby up a bit and stretch her legs. I'd be more than happy to thrash the bits off her every now and then (for maintenance purposes ) What would be the first things for me to check/fix? I've just got some forte turbo cleaner on standby and have bookmarked Lofty's legendary Mr Muscle thread with an Italian tune-up in mind. Am I dreaming in thinking this could solve my problem or am I to look further into MAF/actuator testing and replacing? I have a vacuum test kit at my disposal too but I could do with a little guidance on how to use it on things other than brake system bleeding. I hope it wont go as far as turbo replacement as my wife will no doubt banish me to the son's playhouse in the garden to fend for myself when she's sees the bill! :( I feel as though I've read a fair bit on this but I'm sure, being a novice to TDIs, I've completely overlooked something! Thanks for reading this passage of misery. I look forward to any reply.
  14. Just had this exact problem on my CR 170...typically in time with having to shell out for a service and a cambelt/water pump replacement..!! How has yours been since you fitted the kit? Can you elaborate on the cost and any difficulties when replacing it?
  15. Having trouble viewing the pics. Did they upload okay?
  16. Yep, I checked the brakelights and the bulbs are fine. Next job is to check the pipes and hoses.
  17. I must say that LE wheel looks nice and straight!!
  18. Right. Had the fault checked out and its come back as P2563 Turbocharger Boost Control, Sensor A Circuit. This now points me towards a turbo issue which I hope isn't the case. But if I put this reading next to the symptoms my car's had then it could be something like a vacuum pipe nearby the brake reservoir has been disturbed/pinched. Any thoughts on this theory? Also, I hadn't bled the clutch, which I've heard works with the brake system. Is it necessary that I do this alongside bleeding the brakes?
  19. Hi everybody. Having taken advantage of the good weather and time off I thought I'd finally get round to changing my brake fluid with a plan of changing the rear pads and discs this weekend. Having thought I'd covered all the basics: reservoir cap off, start at at rear left to right to front left to right. I used a vacuum pump at first but due to a sh*itty nipple adaptor (hole was like a pinhole) the pressure started to pull air in through the end of the bleeder hose. So, I sacked it off for my backup eazibleed one-way valve/tube thingy and pumped the pedal whilst topping up the reservoir. My new brake fluid is blue so its easy to tell once each caliper has been bled through. On a side note; I noticed air bubbling through the nipple screw thread on the first caliper while I was using the vacuum. Would I be okay to paste this with a little grease during the procedure to prevent the bubbles? Then wipe off when finished. Everything done without a hitch. All other caliper nipples were fine. Happy days, so I thought. It wasn't until this morning, when I was driving to work, I stopped at some lights and I heard a little hissing noise from the pedal. I pumped the peddle a couple more times and then the glowplug warning light starts flashing...Bugger! It turns off on its own a few seconds after I drive on. It came on a few times during the rest if my journey but there didn't seem to be any problems with my braking performance. After a good read through the forums I've come across a few issues that this points towards and what seems to be the most popular cause is simply the brake light switch or even a brake bulb has blown. I hope its the case. My next step, obviously, will be to find a very nice chap with a very nice VCDS around the Wirral area. Would it be worth using the VCDS to purge the ABS as well as check the fault codes? Or is it not necessary? I've also seen that the master cylinder should be bled too, but I couldn't find the nipples on it. If anyone can understand my ramblings (I've tried to be as detailed as possible) and can offer any insight/knowledge/head shaking at my findings it will be received with the utmost appreciation. Thanks in advance.
  20. Brilliant! Cheers for that. Very handy. Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using Tapatalk 2
  21. Has an interesting priming method if VCDS ain't easily accessible!
