  1. Thanks for all the help and comments. Decided on the 1.4 tsi after test driving one at my local Skoda dealer. Picked it up today, matalic silver, 7.5k on an 11 reg, 1st service done. Hope I've made the right choice coz most of my hard earned has gone on it. Lovely car but the electronics on newish cars worry me because I have not a clue how to fix anything involving electronics and will probadley end up paying through the nose in the long run. And that's from someone who worked in a garrage for 17 years doing everything on cars, vans and mostly trucks. But that was 25 years ago, long before the digital revolution.
  2. Thanks guys for that. Interesting that tony says the 1.2 is OK. I was thinking that a 1.2 engine on a car this size may be too small but maybe I'm out of touch with things these days. Having looked on their web site Parkers reccomend the 1.2 tsi and it may be a little cheeper to insure? Or is the 1.4 a better bet? Thanks again.
  3. Hi Guys, I have always wanted an Octavia after driving my mates taxi for a while. Finally I am in a possition to buy a nice one and was thinking of the 1.4tsi, maybe just under one year old. I do low milage so don't think the extra cost of the diesel is justified. Could I ask if there are any known issues with the 1.4tsi engine? I treat cars very gently and intend to keep it a good few years so would the 1.4tsi be a good choice and are there any major expences that might crop up over time. Thanks in advance.
  4. My mate's 04 mk2 1.9 taxi got to 383k before it died. There is a mk1 1.9 on the rank with 550k on original engine. 70k does not seem a lot for this engine and I would stick with it. The taxi lads around here don't like replacing the 1.9's with the 1.6 at all.
  5. Thanks for your help Guys. I'll do some research on the 1.4Tsi Might be a better option if I can afford one. The 36 MPG quoted above for the 1.6 is a bit of a concern as I do mainly short urban runs. The diesels I know are very good but I also know from the taxi guys how big the repair bills can be if they go wrong and I think that my low mileage would not justify the extra cost of a diesel. If economy was my only criteria I would look at the Fabia but I don't really like the look of the new shape ones. Let you know what I end up with. Thanks.
  6. Hi, I hope someone can advise as need to change my car soon. I have had a Renault Clio from new and it has served me well but I really like the Octavia. I used enjoy driving my mate’s 2004 1.9tdi Octavia Mk2 taxi until it gave up at 383 thousand miles. I want an Octavia for my private use, not for a taxi and I only do about ten thousand gentle miles a year. I cannot afford a brand new one but was thinking maybe a 08 1.6 fsi petrol would be a good choice. Could I ask if there are any issues with this engine and are there any known expensive maintenance surprises likely to crop up over time? Or maybe someone could recommend a different one. I am open to suggestions but I have my mind set on an Octavia. Thanks in advance.
  7. Hi Everyone, Thinking of getting an Octavia soon. I need to ask a question which I will, I hope post inthe right section. Thanks.
