  1. The motability contract on my 170bhp Yeti Elegance,2.0 litre,4wd, manual expires in September :'( But been out today and ordered a 150bhp Yeti SE L 2.0 litre, 4wd,DSG On the test drive I could not detect any significant difference in power and performance between the 170 and the 150 and I trust that it will serve me well for the next 3 years as has the Elegance!
  2. Bought my Yeti 170bhp Elegance through Kevin on the Motability Scheme, as I posted earlier it was a pleasurable experience. My wife Libby is the main user of the car and loves it to bit's, as I'm sure I would if she ever lets me drive it. A problem arose recently as Libby is changing jobs which could incur some business mileage. On checking direct with Motability was told that could not be covered on insurance (I could drive it for business use but not Libby). So we were going to have to let the Yeti go. Went into D.M.Keiths at Wakefield and spoke to Kevin and explained the situation. He offered to ring Motability on our behalf on Monday and ring us back with the result, which he has just done. He gave me the number to phone at Motability and the points I should emphasise, which I have done. Motability are sending out an amended insurance policy permitting business use...........Brilliant service or what.......Cheers Kevin and D.M.Keith's.
  3. Motability can't sell it to me until the contract expires, which is about 18 months! Kevin at D.M.Keith rand motability on my behalf and then rang me with the number and told me to explain the situation again, emphasising that I don't (can't) drive the Yeti (it's manual and I'm now not too good with a manual box). Also to point out that I don't work and that Libby is the sole wage earner. So I rang them (not too optimistically), explained the situation to the nice lady who is now sending me out a revised insurance document covering business use for Libby - RESULT!!!! Hope you're as successful with the DVLA and don't hold your breath whilst looking for a nice man there, It may take a very long time!!!!!
  4. Hi folks, long time no speak. Read the forum regularly but don't contribute as I have nothing to say mainly because I don't drive the Yeti. Libby has taken total control of it!! Knew I shouldn't have bought her that private plate!! However that is about to change as she is changing jobs and it involves some business mileage. Our (?) Yeti is a Motability vehicle and whilst she can commute to work in it she can't (quite rightly)travel to multiple locations in it. So we have to get a vehicle that we can. Buying the Yeti is not an option, so the reason for the title of this post is simple HOW THE HELL DO YOU REPLACE A YETI??? Answer - with great difficulty. There isn't another 2nd hand 4x4 that comes remotely close to a 170bhp Elegance. Choices at the moment are Freelander or (my preference)Jag X Type estate or look at the Skoda estates, so here we go...........
  5. Cheers for that, not sure how I managed to duplicate that!
  6. Thanks TP, will check with Keith's
  7. The automatic levelling/cornering lamps are persistently in the habit of attempting to spot low flying aircraft! This particularly occurs when turning right and when going uphill. The lights adjust upwards when going uphill but take a good while to come down when reaching the flat or downhill. This obviously has the effect of dazzling oncoming traffic. On cornering (particularly right) the lights bend appropriately but don't always return when the manoeuvre is finished, unless you "jiggle" the steering wheel. It has been into D.W.Keiths twice for this but they cannot find any fault. :( Any suggestions gratefully appreciated. I have observed this as a passenger, mainly because Libby doesn't let me drive it! :peek: Cheers all
  8. Just called in at my local dealer, D M Keith, offering sets of winters, supplied, fitted balanced etc £420 for 16s, £640 for 17s.

    BIG MISTAKE

Hi Hood, point taken! Thanks for reminding me about the tax disc holder, I had forgotton all about it until a couple of weeks ago. I tried to apply it and the curvature of the windscreen is such so that the holder does not make an all round connection with the screen with the little stickies provided (no problem with the jag which I thought there would be.) So I am contemplating an alternative means of adhesion, just haven't got round to it. I did get a holder from tesco (£2.50) as a temp. It adheres to the screen as a normal adhesive plastic one but the backing is magnetic so to insert and/or change disc you just slide the back off, replace the disc and slide the back on again. very simple and you don't touch the adhesive part so should last lot longer.

    BIG MISTAKE

Just to clarify stright away, the big mistake was not getting the Yeti but buying Libby (as a thank you for all her help and support) a personalised number plate. She now refers to it as "my car", uses it all the time, and begrudgingly allows me to drive it, as she did yesterday, and on holiday (in MAY). I try to point out that it is actually "MY" car but she retorts "no it's not, it's got my name on it" So I drive my little gas guzzling runabout all the time, with it's own personalised plate, which I thought at the time was a good laugh but am now thinking it is more appropriate than I first thought P11LOC
  11. If you enjoy Norfolk only half as much as we enjoyed Welsh Wales you will have a great time.
  12. Well folks, myself, Libby and Eddy the Yeti are back in Yorkshire after an 800 mile trip down and around South Wales, and what a delight it was. Thanks to you all for your wishes, support, suggestions and warnings - all gratefully received. over the 800 miles we averaged (full to full) 39mpg. We went down the pretty way, Nantwich, Welshpool, Newtown etc and came back using the "fastest route" on the Columbus ( which took us straight to Cardiff airport, think it was having a laugh!). So we experienced country roads, dual carriageways and motorways. Given that it took 6 hours going down and just over 4 coming back I'm happy with that consumption. Only technical(?) problem we had was after stopping for fuel and turning the engine off the key would not turn in the ignition to restart. The steering lock was well on and it took a good 5 minutes of jiggling twisting and turning before the key turned, which at the time was a cause for concern. Overall well pleased with the Yeti and looking forward to driving it again, should the opportunity arise!! Will try to upload some Yeti photo's but in the meantime here, hopefully, is one of some locals outside our lounge window looking for free handouts. It might be Graham and a couple of his chums in their "evening" dress!!!
  13. Thanks, local advice is good advice and I intend to follow it ( despite various PM's and phone calls warning that this is just a subterfuge by you to drive us into the hands of the Welsh speaking natives to take part in unspeakable rituals )
  14. Planned route = M62, M6, A483, A40, A4066. Actual route = Don't know, depends on weather, mood, sat nav etc. No rush Iechyd da :sun:
  15. Yeti, Libby and I are having a holiday soon in Welsh Wales. Got all neccessary travel doc's etc and checked that the Sat Nav operates in that part of the world and still communicates in English. Going to Laugharne, Dyfed, Dylan Thomas country - been before - lovely part of the world and the natives were extremely friendly. Will keep a lookout for yeti's flying the Red Dragon and will wave if the opportunity arises
