My son has just bought a 2012 VRS with18" alloys but it doesn't come with a space saver. I have been looking on Ebay for him and there seems to be loads for Golfs and Audis, will these fit? Thanks in advance.

I can't find a definite answer anywhere. My daughter in law is after a Polo bluegt around 2015 model. I assume it is the same engine as the superb. I have been told it is a chain but another website says belt. If it is a belt what is the renewal frequency? Can anyone help me? My local dealer is hopeless so no help there. Thanks.

When was vrs petrol engine changed to EA888?
gord replied to gord's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I thought the EA113 didn't have a cam chain! -
Ok. Just got a call off garage that has fixed my car. It was the timing chain that had stretched-at only 47k! Cost my £97 for chain kit and £250 for labour (mates rates) Absolutely chuffed. As for Volks-tek of Dronfield who didn't want to know, they have now lost a loyal customer after 13 years. Thanks every one for your help.

Thanks everyone,I've got car booked in at another garage monday. I'm very disappointed with the vw specialist. I've used him for 13 years for servicing and odd problems. Will use someone else now. Just spoke to the receptionist at the vw specialist to try to get more info. Apparently he didn't scan the car, he says he thinks it is the timing caused by the chain and he doesn't have the gear!! When I drove the car home last night it was ok above 1500rpm but the tickover was dreadful. I will keep you informed

I don't really know, when I went to collect the car he wasn't there. As far as I can tell he hasn't physically done anything to it just plugged in Vag com. I was given the keys back by a young lad who knew nothing about it. He just said there was no cost. I was told on the 'phone it wasn't the coils though.

My 47k mile Scirocco 2.0tsi petrol has started to misfire terrible on tickover. (same engine as vrs) Engine management light is flashing and sometimes EPC light. Above tickover it runs ok most of the time but sometimes misfires all the way through the revs. I've had it to a vw independent specialist who thinks it is the timing that is out (timing chain)but doesn't have the gear to do the job. He was a bit vague,as if he wasn't sure.He says take it to a main dealer! I've spoke to someone else who is going to have a look Monday. If it was the timing chain wouldn't it miss all the time? I have also heard that the timing chain tensioner can fail prematurely. Could it be this? Any help appreciated.

My son wants some new 165mm coaxial door speakers for his new Kenwood head unit. His budget is only £80. He already has a sub powered by a separate amp so bass isn't important. He is looking at JL Audio TR650cxi Kenwood KFC-X173, or Hertz Energy ECX165.5. Any opinions or alternatives much appreciated.

My son wants some new headlight bulbs for his Corolla.(H7) We've tried Osram Silverstars but he says they don't look white enough. He says he's not bothered about light performance he just wants them to look really "white" and not at all "yellow" like standard halogens. He also says he doesn't want 'em to look "bluey" like xenon effect bulbs. Kids eh? Can anyone help.

So Skoda are liars!

If you look at this advert for the Octavia,it claims the Vrs is both turbocharged and super charged,(middle column,10 lines below the green square) http://www.skoda.co.uk/finance/finance-offers/0-pcp/octavia-offer/100reasons/default Is this correct or is this a mistake?

Yeah,look for the yellow one.

Excessive oil consumption 2.0T petrol
gord replied to gord's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Car now using 1l every 600 mile. It was booked in Monday at the car people for them to investigate Update...As I thought, they 'phoned me up and said they'd checked with Audi and the consumption of oil was "normal" I told them I had also spoke to the main dealer who had serviced my car and they said it was using too much. After a heated argument on the 'phone I went down(after ringing a second Audi dealer) and the car people got the Audi dealer they had spoke to on the 'phone. I was handed the 'phone and the Audi guy agreed with me. The car people then changed their tune. The car is booked in with Sheffield Audi next Wednesday, where they will top up the oil accurately and after 621mile (1000km) I will take the car back and they will check what it has used. And hopefully find the problem. -

Now using 1 litre every 600 mile. It's booked in Monday at the car people, will let you know how I get on -
When I'm on nights i am in a car park a long way from any water so have to use de-icer. My mate has just told me that de-icer is bad for the car,if it gets on the paintwork? Is this true? I've been using it for years.

I had gloss black on my vrs but they were a pain to clean, had to leather them completely after each wash. If I had them done again I would have matt black.

I have recently traded in my Octy vrs for a Audi A4 2.0T petrol. This is the same engine as the later vrs's (EA888 I think) The car is just 3 years old and has done 61K,it has full Audi service history. So far the car has used 1.25ltr of oil in 800 mile.Otherwise the car runs perfectly. According to the manual the car should use up to 0.5ltr/1000km(620mile). Luckily I took out a years warranty when I bought the car. It states that if there is a problem they will pay for one hours labour to investigate the problem at a garage of my choice, and then a decision will be made as to whether I am covered. I seem to think that one or more of the pistons could be worn. If so, would Audi be able to diagnose this within one hour? I don't want them to strip the engine only to find out that is not the problem, and be left with a hefty bill. Thanks in advance.

When is the best time to fit them ,I was thinking the 1st week in November, until the 1st week in April. They are supposed to work best at 7 degrees or less. Any thoughts?

Had a word with a guy at Bickertons,Sheffield on Sunday. Said they were only being allowed one,and that would be a demonstrator. What's the point of having a demonstrator if you can't get any more? Also verified that they only have diesel. I would have ordered there and then if they did petrol. Maybe Skoda will see sense and do another batch. Lets hope so.

I'm looking for the best "hid effect" bulbs for my Octy vrs. Auto express recommends Philips BlueVision ultra. Anyone tried them?
