  1. Yes that's them - both of mine were faulty due to water ingress. Hopefully that will sort your issue
  2. Hello, the issue could be down to the switch for operating the windows. I had a similar issue and removed the window switch and stripped it apart in order to clean the contacts. It's a bit fiddly and there are some small parts that you need to be careful with but it could be a cheap fix for you.
  3. Original radio is still fitted to the car.
  4. The instrument cluster illumination goes out once the car is switched off and locked but then randomly illuminate again after a short period of time. I have had the clocks out and stripped apart and the circuit board etc appears fine - no signs of burning or moisture ingress.
  5. Thanks for your reply. I bought the car knowing it had a battery drain, the previous owner had recently replaced the battery with a bosch s4. I have drop tested the battery and it appears to be fine.
  6. I had a similar issue with my 1.2 and my local tyre and exhaust place managed to repair it, however the entire exhaust looks like it will need replaced soon. Is it the flexi that's separating from the centre section? If so it should be possible to reweld the end of the flexi where it slides into the centre section.
  7. I'm surprised that there has been no replies to my post, however just to update again - i have removed the body control module but the unit is sealed so I didn't want to pull it apart but the main connections appeared to be clean and dry. The drain in the battery remains - would a session on VCDS be able to highlight what the issue might be?
  8. Just an update to this post - I have managed to sort the window issue out by stripping the window switches and cleaning them so now all fully operational. However even after taking the clocks out and checking for moisture on the board the speedo and rev counter backlights illuminate randomly and the battery drain still remains....
  9. I'm back in a Skoda after previously owning a mk1 Octavia vrs estate. I have recently bought a 2011 fabia 1.2 and it appears to have a pretty severe battery drain. From what I can tell in a week of ownership, the rear wiper doesn't work, the front window switches can be temperamental - don't work the first time you use them and can sometimes go down on their own or you can hear the switch clicking in the door randomly and the last strange issue is that the instrument cluster illuminates even when the car is switched off and locked. Any advice or help would be appreciated before I go pulling the whole thing apart,
  10. Ross, i had a similar problem on mine. As mentioned above try pulling the internal handle while unlocking the car - if you manage to get the door open spray a copious amount of electrical contact cleaner into the lock and leave it for a while. I can't guarantee that it will cure the problem but it worked for me. When is the baby due?
  11. Hi Ross have you managed to get the door lock/unlock problem sorted? If you are still having issues then try and spray some electrical contact cleaner into the door lock mechanism as this may remidy the issues. I have seen your VRS around then town and it looks really clean - i have a red VRS estate. Is your car standard and what miles has it done?
  12. Hi billy2981, as i am relatively new to this forum the pics above are the first i have seen of your car - you can't get rid of that fine example! I have just checked the price of e39 530D's and they are still fetching strong money! Good luck mate.
  13. Hi mate - i can understand the dilema that you are facing as it is not easy to part with a car that you have owned, cherished and modified from new (i had a mk4 Astra SRI Turbo from new with a few choice mods and sold it). After the SRi-T i bought a 2002 e39 530d Msport auto and thoroughly enjoyed the experience - it was powerfull, comfortable and dare i say it economical but this was sold to fund a deposit for a house. I did resist the temptation to modify the 530 and instead just kept it in tip top condition - you always hear horror stories on forums but in the time i had the car the only thing i had to replace was a bush. Since selling the 530 i bought a house, got married, bought a Volvo V50 2.0D se sport for the Mrs, pottered about in insignificant cars and a long term B5 Audi A4 which had been whacked with the lowering stick. Recently i decided to part company with the A4 and get another estate for practicality and set about the task of looking for a derv...................ended up buying a mk1 vrs estate and i love it! To sum up my long winded story keep the vrs and look out for a mint e39 530d Msport - this way you get the best of both worlds. Cheers
