  1. At the moment I have 62k out of all 4 pads on my estate. Was told the average life was 40k and can be doubled or halved depending on driving style. Asked garage to check them at service in Sept and they were confident of at least another year out of discs and pads so looks like over 80k on mine too. I'd suggest the ESP and brake bias is why the rears are going first.
  2. I see a mountain where once there was a mole hill. If you look hard enough you'll find fault. I'd have told you to get a new multi meter, 0.1 V down means its at 99.2% of optimum and if it starts just leave it alone.
  3. Is spider not suggesting that after its been left idling for 20 minutes the interior of his car is still cold. To be expected in a diesel due to no load on the engine. As others have said, turn on and drive off. It'll soon heat up
  4. Perhaps he is, but if it gets the scout some free advertising then thats good. He does make some good points in his column at times, but his TV work is dummed down so low its embarassing at times (which he has commented on in the paper)
  5. Well he did put it into his top cars of 2009, so I think he may have got a bit more realistic these days. Perhaps credit crunch clarkson or something "If we bought cars using nothing but our heads, we’d all have VW Golfs but this is more rounded and capable, says Jeremy Clarkson" "But if you apply the cold steel of logic to your choice of car, it is absolutely impossible to come up with anything better." hmmmm Jeremy Clarkson Jeremy Clarkson's top 12 cars of 2009 review | Driving - Times Online
  6. oh well some people are too quick. At least we all agree its a shock, and i pulled all the relevant quotes in one go.
  7. Shock news. Clarkson actually likes the new Scout... "Pound for pound the best family car you can buy" "But if you apply the cold steel of logic to your choice of car, it is absolutely impossible to come up with anything better." "Just £18,750 for a comfortable, spacious, well made four-wheel-drive estate car is truly extraordinary value for money." Good stuff Jeremy Clarkson Skoda Octavia Scout 1.8 TSI review | Driving - Times Online
  8. :iagree: Nationwide are still run for your benefit, so no big profit margin required. Best of all their credit cards are amongst the fairest in the market, esp re overseas charges and forex rates, and order of paying balances (highest to lowest rather than lowest to highest which everyone else does, ie if you withdraw some cash in an emergency on your credit card, it runs interest but if you pay it back into the account the payment goes to that item first, compared to HBoS etc where it goes to the interest free items first!!!!! so you have to clear your statement before you stop getting charged interest even on an interest free offer. rant over
  9. devere hotels have a 2 for 1 offer? Mottram hall in cheshire is nice.
  10. Thats good news. I would service it at least annually depending on your mileage. I've mine on variable, but thats cause I do 20k miles a year, and so on variable i get between 16 and 20k miles between services, so about 11 months between services. I wouldn't want to go 2 years without it being on the ramp even if I was doing 10k a year I'd probably get it checked over annually. Enjoy
  11. In reference to your earlier posts. There will always be one-off issues, quite possibly arising due to dodgy maintenance. I see the Passat is more popular as a fleet car than the octavia, so we all know how well people treat a company car compared to one they might actually have to keep for 3-5 years! Enjoy your new toy. I've the same model, has it had the cambelt changed - it's due at 4 years old or 80k miles - just slightly concerning he didn't mention that in terms of maintenance.
  12. And might just make it "cool" to have a skoda. Doubt it though
  13. Indeed, mine actually went down on renewal when I said I had 3 points and also increased the annual mileage to 20k a year. All very odd. Guess they reckon I'll drive a bit slower, which I do. Re comments of sticking to 30/40 in these limits, I find my cruise control very useful and use it most days when I've several miles of these limits to go through.
  14. It's always a tricky one to give a new dog a home so quickly, but if you are thinking about the best interests of the grey being rescued then I am sure you will pass the "suitability" test....
  15. our sympathies are with you at these difficult times. I've given our hound a big hug tonight
