  1. Done 34000 miles with a DTUK CRD3 on my 2016 Octavia VRS 4x4; no dramas at all. Minutes to put on or take of when going in for a service; 3 services in the last 12 months. Wouldn't be without it on the car now, definite power increase, smooth, no excess smoke and a real increase in fuel economy. Well done DTUK!!!!
  2. Had a 12 plate Golf R with a stage 1 remap; awesome car. I was gonna keep it forever, or trade in for the Mk7 as I absolutely loved the car, so much fun and bloody quick to boot. But changed jobs and needed a newer car with better economy, so got the 4x4 VRS, had to have AWD, can't do with front wheel drive any more in the wet with the wheels scrabbling and spinning when needing to pull away quickly. Miss the power of the golf, no doubt about that, but love the fuel economy of the VRS and with the DTUK tuning box a bit more power, so not all bad. However, I am pining for the Golf R and seriously considering getting one. Done 25500 miles in the VRS in 10 months, had one problem, fuel gauge failed to reset after a refuel, sorted easily by the garage, no other issues at all. If I got the R, my fuel cost would increase by £1500 a year, plus the loss I would make on the VRS as depreciation is horrendous, so I would be well out of pocket. Decisions, decisions!!! Money, money!!!! Bloody cars lol.

  4. My VRS 4x4 - Well here are the real figures for my very fast return trip from Cornwall and a couple of commutes to work: 475 miles / 48 Litres to refuel = 9.89mpl 9.89mpl x 4.54609 litres = 44.9873mpg So just a nats knacker off of 45mpg - real time mpg. With 1800 miles on the clock. That's pretty damn good considering the MFD is reading 51mpg average; we all know they read higher than the real world. I'll post my next refuel figures, as these should improve, as it will be a more sedate drive, as I'll only be commuting for the next week.
  5. In it a shame we can't have them all. I took a CTR out for a test drive, and I was chuffed that it was raining, as it just spun up under hard acceleration which is to be expected. But what a pain that is when you need a quick getaway. The R is in a different league, my 12 plate R was awesome, and the new one is so much better, more power, more tech, better ride and will never spin those wheels when flooring it from a wet standstill. So if you are happy with 30 mpg, cause thats all you'll realistically get, go for the R. However, as already mentioned, try the VRS 4x4, chuck a DTUK tuning box on it and have a good bit of power and 45mpg as a minimum; it does for me, but I will eventually go back to a petrol AWD, it's between the Golf R and the Focus RS.

  7. I'll work it out on the next refill and post the results; stay tuned
  8. Always been able to afford a decent car, but have never been able to justify spending so much money on a car such as a BMW, Merc or Audi, when I could get something that does the same, i.e gets me from A to B. On my 3rd Octavia VRS, after getting rid of an expensive Golf R, which was a great car, but I needed a car that did a bit better on economy. So I got the VRS 4x4, just because it has AWD; its great. It ain't about the badge any more, the car is quality and just as good as the VW; so that's where I rank it in this weird world of ours.
  9. Done over 800 miles this weekend, North Kent to Cornwall and return. Also fitted the DTUK CRD 3, set to programme 2, setting 1+, before setting off. What an amazing bit of kit, does what it says on the tin, excellent power increase, most impressed. However, the increase in mpg is staggering, dependant on how I drove the car, I was getting up to 58mpg and that was along the A2/M2, around the M25 and onto the M3, A303 and the A30; seriously impressed and not driving like Miss Daisy.
  10. Just short of 1000 miles done now, with a trip from North Kent coast to North Yorkshire over the weekend and a couple of commuting trips earlier in the week. Loving the car, so much more than I thought I would, especially after trading in the Golf R for it. Now I know some of you guys will already have experienced some of the gadgets on the car, but one thing I love is the lane assist; what a trick bit of kit, it really works and actual keeps you in between the lines. Gutsy engine, smooth delivery of power and better economy than I expected currently averaging 47mpg; that is very good considering its new, carrying an extra 85kg with the AWD and I wasn't hanging about up and down the A1 . I have read some of the motor magazine reviews, and they say the suspension is not great; I would have to disagree, its firm and exactly what you need for a sportier set up, not crashing over the bumps. It feels planted and quite nimble for the size of the car, in particularly around the North Yorkshire B roads, so again more than happy with the way it drives and feels on the road. Build quality is comparable to the other VAG group cars, clean lines, quality interior, comfortable; great set of seats. Typically the DTUK tuning box was delivered over the weekend, however, all I have is the Royal Mail 'Your parcel is available to collect from your local parcel centre' card. Will be getting that after work tomorrow and will let you all know how I get on with it. Early days, but so far so good and I would certainly recommend the VRS 4x4, and although I will miss the power of the Golf R, I'm loving the fuel economy
  11. CRD 3 DTUK box ordered and will be fitting over the weekend; settings as recommended by DTUK will be 2-1.
  12. Thanks for the advice, I have read about the DTUK box and it states a high torque output of up to 500Nm's; that's brilliant. One to defo look into.
  13. Picked up my new VRS 4x4 today; very nice indeed. Thought I would let you all know my initial thoughts. The AWD is great, nice quick standing starts, no wheel spin or judder, just a nice smooth acceleration. After trading in the Golf R, I was obviously expecting a lack of power, but not too bad, decent amount of torque, and easy keeping up with the flow of traffic; will be getting a remap though, always had remaps on previous cars and never encountered any problems to date. Always amazed at the amount of room in the boot, it's huge in comparison to the golf and still a load of space for passengers (not in the boot of course) and all the baggage you need for the holidays. Seats are very comfortable with plenty of adjustment, and very easy to get a comfortable driving position, which I always struggled to do in the Golf. Selected the Columbus Sat Nav system, and very glad that I did, very intuitive, excellent graphics, sound is awesome and so easy to use; nice one Skoda!!! Lots of storage space, and practical items fitted, such as the control levers in the boot to drop the seats, and the baggage hooks; and yes an ice scraper located on the back of the fuel flap. Got 46 mpg on my first run down the motorway, so very impressed considering it only had 7 miles on the clock when I got it, and it will only improve. Stop start can be turned off, but not found that it ruins the driving experience when it is on (which is the default), that others have complained about, just need to read the road and get it going at the right time to make swift progress. Decent set of tyres fitted as well, Bridgestone Potenza's, and they grip very well in the wet, which surprise surprise it was damp when I picked the car up. Well if anyone else has had the VRS 4x4 experience, I would appreciate your thoughts.
  14. Paperwork sorted, checked my car out at Euro Canterbury and collect on 1 March in the afternoon. Then off to get a remap and gonna be a happy VRS 4x4 geezer!!!
  15. Pick mine up on the 1 March - Out goes the Golf R and in comes the VRS 4X4.
  16. Could well be Gromie; I reckon that's a good question for Skoda??
  17. Odd indeed; information obtained from Skoda's downloadable brochure.
  18. I've gone for PCP, max deposit, 0% APR and a £1000 skoda deposit contribution. Spec - Candy White, folding door mirrors, leather with heated seats, Columbus Stereo/Sat Nav, WIFI, sunset glass, black pack. 36 months @ £299. Normal options at the end for a PCP.
  19. Nothing yet; it'll come we all know it. Just a question of when?????
  20. Indeed my friend; and thats the plan!!!
  21. Kerb weight is 1475kg for the 4x4, 85kg heavier than the front wheel drive version, so a fat little git lol!!! Still quick of the line andwill feel nicely planted on the road.
  22. Ordered my VRS 4x4 in November, car built and arriving in the UK this week. However, gonna wait for the 16 plate, so won't get it until 1 March. Really looking forward to it though, currently driving a 12 plate VW Golf R with a stage 1 remap; wicked 310bhp. For those die hard front wheel divers, try an awd car, not the SUV, a real car. So much better grip off the line, in any weather. No wheel spin, which is the bain of most drivers of a front wheel drive car. Having owned 2 VRS's prior to the Golf R, I was fed up of our wet winters killing my driving time with spinning wheels, lack of traction in corners, under steer death and forever waiting to pull out of those busy junctions in the wet for fear of wheel spin and causing a smash. If you can afford it, get the VRS 4x4, you won't be disappointed. I know I will miss the power of my Golf, but a hefty hike in commuting mileage makes the diesel VRS a sound choice and better on the wallet; plus the fact I'm going back to my favourite car the Skoda Octavia VRS; you gotta love em!!!!!
