  1. Can anyone tell me please if they have experienced issues with the tilt and slide sunroof? I've had my car for almost a year and it has been in to the local dealer every 3 months due to the sunroof making annoying rattling sounds, they have told me there is nothing that can be done, the current tempory remedy is giving it a good clean followed by some sort of lubrication, the fault is due to a build up of dirt / debris!
  2. I too had the boom and the very stiff suspension. The boom seems to have diminished after nearly 2000 miles and suspension has loosened up to a point where it is no longer a big issue. However I did drive a Focus last week and the ride was far better than the Octy but I still couldn't wait to get back to the SKODA as the interior of the Focus is awful and the infotainment system looks so old fashioned on the Ford.
  3. Thank you for advice, I will take it in for them to check.
  4. I think it has started since I filled up with Sainsbury's diesel so I'm going to try BP Ultimate and see if that gives a difference.
  5. I had the Bluemotion Golf for a few months and it was a good car but I think the new Octavia is better, both for interior quality, tech and driving quality.
  6. That should read 1.9TDi Saab 9-3. I better get the car right if I'm going to slag it off.
  7. pipsyp - Thank you for the info. It's driving really well and the MPG is good and this is the reason I haven't taken it back immediately. I was just a bit worried I was turning a blind eye to a potential issue that may cause damage. I've got to say the 1.6TDI is an excellent engine for it's size so the 2.0ltr must be amazing for a Diesel. I'm just a bit wary as I had a Saab 2.0 ltr Diesel for 4 years which gave me nothing but trouble. This was the reason to go back to petrol for my last car but I couldn't live the MPG. The DPF was a nightmare, the car either drove like it was going through treacle when it regenerated or worse still it would go into limp home mode. The car gave no warning before going into limp home mode so you couldn't even drive it hard to clear the DPF. This would happen every 4.5K. Good job it was a company car or it would have cost me a fortune. I tried to hand it back but they used the old faithful excuse " driving style " which was rubbish as I drive on a motorway every day so the DPF had time to warm up. In the end they changed the DPF and the sensors and low and behold no more DPF problems but this took nearly 3 years to sort out. On top of this the alternator, fuel pump and heat exchanger all failed along with numerous error messages and a multitude of cabin rattles due to the woeful interior build quality. Oh and the paint job looked like it had been applied with a 6inch brush. As you can tell I didn't like the Saab much rant over.
  8. I'd agree, my goes equally as well as any 2.0lt TDI's I've driven over the years, unfortunately I think they have accidentally fitted sports suspension as well because the ride is quite firm and crashes through potholes.
  9. Yeh it's a 1.6TDI. I have had a few TDI's in my time but can't remember ever having a rattle when cold. It's quite loud as you can hear it over the radio. It does go once the engine is warm.
  10. I have done just under 600 miles and I have notice a metallic rattle coming from the engine when accelerating. It appears to happen when the engine is cold and only when accelerating, as soon as I take my foot off the gas it stops. Is anyone else having or had this issue and should I be worried and rush to the dealer or is it something and nothing.
  11. Austin Maxi's - My Dad had one and it was an awful car, shed on wheels.
  12. Mk 1 Golf 1.1L Great car but old when bought and I had to put a new engine in it. Montego 1.6L bloody awful (company car) Montego 2.0L MG extremely fast, shame about the brakes and steering. (Company car) Renault 9 great until the gear box went at 70k (Company car) 2 x Vauxhall Cavaliers 2.0L good reliable cars. (company cars) Vauxhall Astra MK 2 ok but dull (Company car) 3 x Mondeos 2.0L TDI's Good cars never any issues (Company cars) Saab 1.9 TDI bloody awful and never out of the garage, pleasure to hand it back (Company Car) Golf 1.6tdi Slowmotion - Nice car. (Company car) SKODA Octavia 1.6MPI SE - excellent car for the price no issues in 3 years but gas guzzler. SKODA Octavia 1.6TDI Elegance - great car so far and I must say the nicest car I have owned. I also driven hundreds of hire cars and pool cars from Mercedes, BMW's to Chevrolets and Citroens.
  13. I also think the 1.6tdi is surprisingly good. I have had many 2 ltr TDi's over the years and a 1.6 VW Golf slowmotion and I think it is as good as most of them. I would say it is nippier than the Slowmotion with very similar MPG so is a bargain in comparison to the VW. I can't see what the Bluemotion badge gives over a standard diesel SKODA as the SKODA has stop start technology and is road tax exempt.
  14. I would concur with the firm ride on 17 inch wheels, it's murder at the moment with all the potholes and I'm experiencing the low boom even though I have a spare wheel. I do think the suspension is getting slightly better or maybe I'm just getting used to it. These are minor niggles as the car is excellent apart from these two points.
  15. After 500 miles averaging over 55mpg on a mixture of stop start A roads and rush hour motorway driving. Achieved 67mpg on a decent motorway drive on Sunday and overall the mpg appears to be getting better with every drive. Extremely happy after owning the 1.6MPI Oct which drank Petrol like a sports car. It is also giving similar mpg to the VW Golf slowmotion I used to have, so much for paying extra for an Eco car.
