  1. Hi Trevor, Thanks for the input . . . . Did you also change the smaller bush at the other end of this mount ? Or is it necessary to change it ? At the Awesome site, there is only the bigger bush. Thanks.
  2. Hi and thanks for your reply. But what is the actual name of this part if I want to order one ?
  3. Hi and thanks for your reply. Yes, the engine stalls when the clutch is released fully with the wheels locked. I have the clutch kit but its not fitted yet as I'm not convinced it's the culprit. Had a look under the car on a hoist and found that the noise is actually coming from the "dogbone" mount.
  4. Hi and I am having the same problem as you and I'll need to get one of these. See my thread here : http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/181230-noise-from-gearbox/ Appreciate very much if you point me to the fitting thread. Cheers. ps - Thanks Trevor for your reply to the thread I started too.
  5. Hi all, Can someone please tell me this part number and point me to a online store to order it. Is this the famous "dogbone" mount, located just below the gearbox. Appreciate any help . . . . Thanks.
  6. And where can one find this "dogbone" mount ??? We order the mounts from Jorily and they have only 2 mounts available, one for the engine and one for the gearbox. There is another mount on the bottom left (passenger side on a right hand drive car) This was the one that was not changed. Is this the "dogbone mount ? Many thanks for the inputs . . . . Cheers.
  7. Hello all, MY 2003 Fabia 1.4MPI Manual A little update on some work done to our little Fabia since my last post . . . Repainted the car to original silver, added some Audi Sportline alloys ( from a Audi TT off eBay ), Original Bodykit, AP lowered springs and shocks and changed out a few worned bits. We are in Singapore and Fabia spares are a real rarity here . . . . so everything came from GB, except for the alloys and AP suspension kits which a buddy in Germany got for us. Anyway, the Fabia had a bursted ignition coil 3 weeks ago and was sitting in the shop unitl we got a new replacement yesterday ( came from Jorily and it took 2 weeks to get to us ). Now that its running again, we found another problem . . . . . There's this rattling noise ( we found it coming from the gearbox area ) when you are 1st moving off, both in 1st and reverse. Happens almost everytime in reverse, in 1st it's less often. So I put the car in gear, both 1st and then in reverse, releasing the clutch but without the car moving ( i have the handbrakes on ) and the rattling noise gets very loud. Could this be clutch related, but clutch don't feel worn or something to do the flywheel ???? We have a new clutch kit, plates bearings etc etc . . . One more question please, How many mountings are there for the engine/gearbox ? 2 for engine and 1 for gearbox ? We only got one for engine and one for gearbox from Jorily . . . Many thanks. A pix of the our Fabia on the wheel alignment stand . . .
  8. My whip antenna is busted, broken and I was thinking of getting one of these. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180523496142&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT So, have you put it on ??? Any pictures will be much appreciated. Many thanks.
  9. I had the same problem with my son's 1.4MPI. The whole bloody floor was wet and I mean wet when we bought it. Since we have been having rain regularly here, I thought maybe he did leave the windows down and forgot to close them when it started raining as he explained. Anyway, spent one Sunday afternoon taking out the door cards and sealing all the 4 door carrier as suggested. After drying out the carpet ( plenty of old newspaper under the rubber mats and keep changing them when they become wet ) the floor of the back seats were dry. That is after about 2 weeks but the front passenger side was as wet as eve. The driver's side was a little bit damp but not as before. On days when there was no rain, it was still wet after changing out the newspaper. I suspected the aircon condensant water was the culprit and took it to a aircon tech friend of mine. He stripped out the centre console, glove box and a lot more and found that it was indeed the water from the aircon. The culprit was another sealing problem, this time a black metal plate in the firewall, you can see the aircon condensate water flowing out from behind it. We found out that to remove and seal between the metal plate and firewall involve removing alot of other stuff, so we decided to seal it the way I did with the carrier in the door.. Its sealed and we'll test it out tmr and see if the problem is solved. Will try to get a picture or two if he hasn't put it all back when I get there tmr am.
  10. I had the timing mark repositioned and it runs like a energiser bunny now. Thanks folks for the info. I hope the others who are due for a timing chain change do look at this thread first before doing it, its a real pain doing it twice
  11. Thanks for your info. How difficult is it to remove the (plastic cover that the wipers go through) ???e It'll be good to remove this buggere and have a good look inside. I have cleared whatever I can (essentially dead leaves) from the 2 sides and poured water in there and see the water coming out the drain hole. There's one drain hole behind the right front wheel arch, just between the plastic arch cover and car body. Didn't see one on the left side. normally through the pollen filter Is this the one nex t to the glove compartment ???
  12. Thanks for the reply . . . . . So the water bottle in the front supplies water to the rear wiper as well ? This may well be the culprit . . . . . I do use the wiper wash to the front and rear often. Another suspect now I was going for the aircon drain pipe but couldn't get to it after 2 trys . . . . . . Will check this one out first. Thanks again.
  13. There are quite a few of these each with a different hose, silicon / stainless steel and its all a little confusing . . . . Can one of you tell me which is the correct one please,. Many thanks. http://cgi.ebay.de/Skoda-Fabia-1-4-8v-99-03-Pipercross-Foam-Induction-Kit-/360274328305?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item53e205faf1 http://cgi.ebay.de/PIPERCROSS-INDUCTION-KIT-Skoda-Fabia-1-4-8v-MPi-/270312234784?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3eefdd5f20#shId http://cgi.ebay.de/PIPERCROSS-Induction-Kit-PK281-Skoda-Fabia-1-4-8v-MPi-/170508435853?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27b318418d http://cgi.ebay.de/K-N-57i-Induction-Kit-Skoda-Fabia-1-4-99-06-57-0420-/290333177747?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item439934b793 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Skoda-Fabia-1-4-MPi-8v-99-03-Powertec-Induction-Kit-/270594710084?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f00b39a44
  14. Thanks fenderman for this info. I have a MIA strat too, just got it a year ago . . . . .
  15. Thanks anewman, no apologies needed and I hope I'll get "anewcar" after sorting this out. Skoda is not very popular, no hold on, read not popular at all here hence there's no independent workshops/techs very familiar with the workings of them. The local dealers are hopeless too I might add. Its a new dealership and they are selling the newer models. Had mine done at a Saab indie who I use for my 95 2.3Troll. Is there any guide I can find here to make sure that its done correctly when its taken apart again . . . . I can't do the job meself so I have to depend on the Saab tech to do it. Couldn't get the parts locally hence had a load of service / replacement stuff from Jorily as well ( shipped international ) I saw on the other thread that it has to do with the marking 1 tooth off but how should it be aligned ? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.
  16. And I thought I was being silly to feel that way . . . . . I had the same feeling after I change ours just last Saturday. I changed the water pump and had a new auxillary belt put in as well. It was really struggling up a slope . . . . . Anyone has an idea ?????
  17. Hi you care to eleborate a bit about this . . . . . . I have done the door carrier seal on all 4 doors and it seem to have taken care of the wettness in the back floor board but its still wet in the front. Having been trying to get at the air-con, thinking it may be the condensate water . . . . . has this air-con drain pipe been a problem ? Any idea how to get to the air unit from inside the car ? Thanks in advance.
  18. I thot so too . . . Thanks all for your replies and inputs . . . .
  19. Guess we'll just have to make sure we don't go to that place for dinner again We are happy with the car too . . . . my son uses it for work commute. Guess we'll just have to live with it . . . . . . . 4-500 quid for 7-8 bhp, don't sound to interesting for me. Just curious, what much more torque ? No more passengers in the back seats anymore, that'll do it . . . . . . will use at least 10nm less I wish we have those here . . . . sadly this is the only model sold here then.
  20. So there are a few of us with the 1.4MPI. Didn't think a induction kit will do that much. Maybe worth a try. K&N ? The remap sounds interesting. Who does it and for what money please. Smaller wheels ? I am running stock 14 steelies now which by the way are coming out next month when the 16" Audi TT Speedline wheels get here. Thanks guys for the replies.
  21. Yes, agreed that the little 1.4 push rod engine has its limitations. I remember the old Escorts had the same type engine too but there was loads of things available to make them perform better . . . . . but they had carbs. Have you done anything worthwhile to your car ? I have searched the forum and google too but cannot for the life of it find anything !!!! Appreciate much if you can point me to the places / threads that this topic is discussed. Many thanks.
  22. "incredibly underpowered", that was the phrase I was looking for . . . . . Have you done anything to correct that ?
  23. Hello all, We bought this 2-3 weeks ago. A nice little car but it really can do with a little more power / torque. Was out for dinner earlier with 4 adults in the car, me driving. After dinner, while getting out of a fairly crowded car park, had a real scare . . . . There was a very steep short slope exiting the car park and while trying to get out, had to come to a complete stop, mid slope, to allow a car to get in. And then the shock . . . . I was in 1st gear and couldn't get it up the last part of the slope. ( about 30 degrees, I guess ). After coaxing it a little abit more I manage to crawl up and out . . . . . I mean literally crawlling up the last bit. I just had the car serviced today, changed the oil, Redline 5/40W, and as a precaution, put in a new water pump and new timing chain kit. Now what can I do to get a little more power from the little normally aspirated engine besides adding a turbo. Have search around but don't seem to be able to find anything . . . . .. A worked/polished head, exhaust and bigger injectors maybe, if they are available ? Anyone, please . . . .
  24. Here's how we did my son's 1.4MPI. 1. go over with 1500 wet sandpaper, with plenty of water. 2. then finish off with a plastic lens polish. It turned out great, good enough for 30 mins work. We used a 6inch rotary polish machine. 3. You can also try this . . .
  25. Hi boro86, Thanks for the reply. But do you know if the 1.4 MPI hubs are different from the VRS ? I mean they are both 5x100 PCD, right ? Are they lower arms/knuckles the same for the 2 cars ? Sorry, many questions, new to the Fabia. By the way, awesome looking black car there. We are not going for power mods here but more for the looks . . . ., to look as good a some of the cars here . . .
