  1. My family is a Jewish Catholic split, it is always a riot when things like this come around. I am an atheist by choice, christened catholic, raised jewish, partner is eastern orthodox and I am a god father to catholic god children... its more about community and heritage (I lived i the west of Scotland, where this was a big issue) than actual belief for me. I know you dont believe in religion but from experience it will mean allot to your other half and the family. you will have every opportunity to teach you kids your belief or dis-belief if you will. and chances are the kids will not follow the churches teaching anyway (again from experience!). If they would just hurry up and find the higgs boson then non this would not be a problem
  2. I don't know I'd anyone else has posted this yet but it is doing the rounds on the net! http://m.soundcloud.com/vaughan-1-1/this-is-what-crazy-looks-like
  3. Like other have said... at the right price it would be interesting but just look at the skoda prices compared to VW polo £10,085 - fabia £9880. so knowing that the UP starts at £7995 I would be amazed if it was much less! I have driven an aygo extensively and had the misfortune of a 106 as a courtesy car I really hope VAG can do better the others are shamefully bad in my opinion, particularly the interior quality!
  4. Haha deranged, guilty as charged I guess!
  5. tired the usual suspects. If i am honest it was on its last legs when i got the car a year ago. the volume button was jammed in and it would turn on and off. In the process of "fixing" it after it died I broke the volume button out but this allowed me to see the extent of the damage behind the button left by the previous owner. I have no idea how it worked for as long as it did! I have already had a few pm's about getting parts off the old radio. are radio faults common?
  6. IS this in the "you know you drive a Mk1 Fabia when.." section? Get this fixed as soon as you can, I left mine for too long and it fried some electrics, learnt the expensive way
  7. As usual need some help. Long drive recently hit a pot hole, knew it was going to do some damage and to my surprise it was the radio that died! Looking to replace with a like for like, the bay is selling them for £100, has anyone bought from a scrapy for less? Or is there somewhere better to buy from excluding the stealer. Any advise appreciated.
  8. I have to agree it sounds like it will be more trouble than it is worth. The power steering can be nightmare to fix alone, I had a fault with the PS the fix left me £1000 lighter. sometimes you just have to call it a day... If you decide to stick with it there are some good threads on the possible problems, they helped me. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/186217-fabia-power-steering-problems/
  9. It sounds like it is the rear washer. I had exactly the same problem, the washer will still work but it cant control itself and leaks in to the plastic trim on the inside of the boot. The water then collects in the trim and leaks on to the rubber seal and latch. I hope that you find a fix, I only discovered the problem once the boot carpet was soaked.
  10. Hello all, I have been having a similar problem with a water ingress. from browsing the forums water leaks seems to be a common problem! (mines is a mrk1 fabia hatch). striped the tailgate trim and discovered detached rear washer jet, no surprise there! but water is still getting in to the spare wheel well. after investigating the vents in with the spare they are leaking water! Does anyone know where to get replacements for these vents? I would rather avoid the stealers and fix it myself if possible. thanks.
  11. I doubt that there is a worse garage to take a car to than Arnold Clark. A recent visit to investigate an ABS warning light turned in to a monumental disaster. First the car had a warning light but in no way affected the driving, after they expertly poked about decided it needed a new hub at the front. simple enough. Went to collect the car, was assured that the work had been done and it was all ok. Got in the car to find the power assisted steering non operational, the speedo not working and the engine management warning light on. but in their defence they had managed to get the ABS light off! When I challenged them on what they had done, they explained that the manger and senior technician had left (cant blame them), as the senior tech was the only person who had any relevant experience (being that he had been trained by Audi, not Skoda though) they had done the work according to his old job card, but not actually checked to see if it had been a success. This work had been carried out by the trainee chavvs from peugeot. If you take your skoda, to be worked on by a skoda dealer, I think it is reasonable to think that the spanner wielders will be skoda trained. But with Arnold Clark this is not the case. The eventual compromise was that they took the car to a seat dealer that actually had a vag trained tech. Since getting it back with three new hubs and a new ABS system... grr... it has been checked over by West End Garage in Broxburn (who are in a different league I hasten to add) and is back to its usual self. I know that this is a bit of a rant, but I want want Skoda owners to know, If you use Arnold Clark servicing, you get Arnold Clark mechanics, and that in no way guarantees they know what they are doing...
  12. Thanks I will look for the link, in the future Brisk will be my first point of call before talking to the spanner wielders!
  13. The dealership was the West End Garage Skoda in Broxburn, Scotland. I have been finding it very difficult to find somewhere that is trust worthy and competent! It first went in to Arnold Clark Skoda in Edinburgh, which turned in to a complete disaster. for every one fault fixed they caused three more. for the most part they have been a good garage, fixing Arnold Clarks damage. But I did think that this problem was simpler than they where making out.
  14. Thank you for the response. It was spot on. I feel like a spanner for not checking myself earlier! I had hoped skoda would have checked it before recommending a new light unit tough!
  15. I have not. But I had rather hoped skoda would have checked the fuse when they had it! Is it a single fuse for the os front and rear? if so do you know which number fuse it is?
  16. Hi all, I have an electrical problem with my 05 fabia. The OS/F drivers side light is not working, neither is the OS/R driving light! apparently when driving the rear lights flicker on and off but I have not seen it for myself. The local Skoda dealer cant explain what the problem is, but offered to replace the entire lighting unit as a solution. This seemed a bit excessive and expensive to me! and yes I have changed the bulbs, shredding hands in the process... has anyone had this problem or any idea what might be causing it? any help greatly appreciated.
