  1. Thank you very much for all this. In truth, I don't understand much of it, but I feel I can happily look for a 1.2 tsi 105bhp with no worries! Which is good because most on the used car market seem to have this engine!
  2. I currently have a 1.6 petrol automatic Roomster, and am wanting to find a good second hand replacement. Petrol engine, less fussy about transmission but would possibly prefer manual. The vast majority of second hand models seem to be 1.2, with the few 1.6 being diesel. Would I notice the difference between 1.2 and 1.6? I do mainly city driving, with a motorway trip (120 miles or 360 miles) about every 6 weeks.
  3. I agree, and am now looking to replace my Roomster with a recent second hand model to extend my Roomster owning as long as possible. I don't want a Yeti - I want the smallest possible city-friendly car with the boot space and seat flexibility of the Roomster. I am very upset with Skoda for discontinuing it. The Yeti is that bit bigger: there are times when I am edging through gaps - with other big 4x4 cars coming the other way and we wouldn't make it if I also had a wider car. And I don't want the extra insurance expense. And I may be wrong but I think the Yeti actually has less boot space than the Roomster?
  4. I think I will concentrate on looking for an as-new-as-possible Roomster, with as close to the spec I want. If I have to compromise on either fuel or transmission, which should it be? (I prefer petrol / manual). I should be prepared to compromise on whether it is the Scout model or not, I think.
  5. I am just looking at a Peugeot Bipper. It's Peugeot, it gives the under shelf boot capacity as just over 350 litres, whereas I think the Roomster has 450 litres...there is a 40/60 rear seat split (as opposed to the Roomster's separate 3 seats), but it does have rear sliding doors in it's favour. But it looks like a converted van, not a car.
  6. I have looked at all these suggestions, most are just bigger and / or more expensive, and less flexible that what I need and want. I like the Yeti as the best looking, practical 4x4 type car (and I gather they are planning to tamper with the Yeti - despite it's award winning features). But I don't want a Yeti - it is bigger and more expensive and has LESS boot space. I don't want 7 seats, which I gather Skoda are aiming for in the next Roomster type model. It's so frustrating - 2 people this week have commented on how practical my car is, one even described it as 'funky', and were disappointed when I said they were discontinued.
  7. I am scouring the second hand pages for a new-as-possible Scout, but am not sure if there is such a thing as a 1.4 Petrol / Manual? I have been avoiding diesel - am I wrong? Otherwise, what is the best replacement? The spec says that the Fabia Estate has more boot room than the Roomster, but it doesn't look as practical in real life. I want something with a massively roomy boot (camping), I don't want a bigger car (London Living) I like the flexibility of the seats on a Roomster.... I liked the look of the mooted Roomster replacement. I want one of those or a Roomster! I am now seeing loads of Roomsters round us - why ever did they discontinue it?
  8. No--o-o-o-! I have been saving up for a new one, a Scout! There is no better car for boot space, flexible seats, and driving down narrow city streets. I don't want a big wide model like the Yeti.
  9. Ver interesting - I am amazed the internal bike rack can enable you to fit 2 bikes in and still leave one rear seat in place! Thank you everyone, I might see how much it costs to get a Skoda Service Point to fit roof bars. We'd never fit the camping gear plus 3 bikes in the back. I should have thought of roof bars when I bought my Roomster. It is an ideal car for being out and about though!
  10. I would like to be able to carry 2 bikes - a full sized adult bike and a child / teen bike. I am a complete novice in the subject. We have no roof bars, no tow bar. I am nervous of the carriers which hook over the rear door because I have friends who ruined their bikes when the whole thing fell off (their mistake, but if they can make it, you can bet I can!!). Also I have had to avoid bikes on the motorway which have fallen off these devices. I thought carrying them on the roof would be the answer but none of the bars in Halfords would fit because of the way the roof is above the driver's door. Are there bars that will fit? Can a dealer fit permanent bars - and how much would it cost? Should I splash out on a tow bar and use a tow bar mounted bike carrier? All advice gratefully received.
  11. Thank you all, very helpful, and will remember those. In the end i went to a garage down the road, they priced Skoda dealer cost against generic model cost, the Skoda were cheaper (by £8 for the two) and they arrived within 2 hours. And it's wiper weather again - yipeeeeeee.
  12. Halfords only stock rear wiper blades for the Roomster. They said they have no record of front wiper blades on their system, and I must go to a main dealer. This is a major faff - or a 2 hour round trip in a traffic jam. It must be simpler than this!
