  1. Mu experience was initially very good but the Yeti drvrloped an issue, which they could noy deal with on that day, which left us stranded at the end of 2012 wirg Vikki unable to go for dialysos. The RAC managed to get the car going and we managed to get the car to Alex Lawrie in liverpool who were great. However when we replace the Yeti we ended up with a Seat altea XL, which has so fat done 16000 miles in 12 months without failing. Another black mark for lighcliffe was when I booked the Yeti for a service, only to turn up to find the receptionist had not booked the car in. This happened just before the car let us down.No apology was forthcoming at that time. Will be going back to Skoda shortly but will not be dealing with this dealer,
  2. Thanks Guys (especially Steve for posting this). We met on here just on 8 years ago and were married for 6 1/2 years. Vikki had loads of medical issues but did not let these drag her down. When the end came it wasn't due to her existing ailments but something else quite scary. Some of you will remember us from that 'Mad' Summer of 2006 (loz, Shifty, Miss Piggy, Tom, Octygones, LFC958 (steve and Kathy) et al. Really really big thanks fo all the condolences here. John
  3. ST has an extremely heavy clutch. Take it for a test drive first. In my dim and distant past I used to take customers for test drives at a well known North West car supermarket. I used to hate the ST as I could not drive the car smoothly (and I drive dervs with heavy duty clutches) NPS is a good car but Golf GTI Is by far the best for every day use. That said if you are bored by the VRS you may be bored by the Golf

    Yeti recall

Long time wonderer returns. Had a call on Wednesday from the dealer about this. Thought it was a wind up. Just checking that it wasn't. Still puzzled why this is actually a recall. Do the badges actually explode in peoples faces Oh well. Wonder if they will fix the non closing electric rear window. Car booked in at the Warrington dealer on Thursday Edit Just noted cars were recalled in April - why has it taken till July for dealer to contact me (not the 1st time I've been kept in the dark). May be time to ditch the brand for something built in Sunderland....
  5. Whilst browsing through the BBC pages just came up with this :S http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00vdlgh/Nigella_Kitchen_Inspiration_Everywhere/?t=23m01s Wrong Wrong Wrong
  6. Already trying that - it has helped Seing as I got nearly £3k knocked off the car I don't see £30 - £40 being a problem. As long as the smell goes
  7. Well.... Couldn't let SWMBO get away with a new Yeti and had to get another car. Besides being a 1 car family was becoming a problem.. Anyway, on Saturday, a trip down to somewhere outside Cardiff on a well known budget bus lead to the purchase of an 07 Ambiente 1.6 Fsi Octy. Really very pleased with it. Indeed I haven't touch the Yeti since but.... the car wreaks of smoke. A plead. Does anyone know how to get rid of the smell. Also the instrument plastic is even stained by it. Any ideas? Gave a colleague a lift tonight and he didn't think it too bad. Maybe the non smoker in me but.... help
  8. Great to meet up after such a long time (even though it was for barely 30 mins) Will definitely be over next month.. Thanks for making us welcome
  9. In answer to this 1. Yes you can turn up to the museum. It is really worth it, especially for the goodies 2. there is a factory showroom next to the museum, but don't just walk into the vip part like I did (only to be gently moved away (The I speak no Czech option doesn't work) 3. For Factory tours Skoda UK (pre VW) were much better but worth a call to Milton Keynes. Failing that contact Mlada Boleslav when you land in Praha (Prague) 4. But worth going for the museum - you can see the plant(s) from the road Getting their 1. Train. Czech trains are cleaner, quicker and safer than they used to be by a long way. 2. Cheap option is the Bus but not one I would relish (Need to get to Mlada Boleslav) 3. My own choice would be stay of the Pivot (Beer) and Vino (Wine) and hire a car from someone like www.alimex.eu
  10. Trying to get used to it. Overall OK but having difficulty finding uk news stories Still one of the better sources of news - and still free unlike The Times
  11. Today, taking the first Saturday off in ages, I decided to take the Wife to Bury to do our weekly shop and see 'The Rock'. Big Mistake Can't people see a wheelchair heading towards them? I lost count of people walking in front of us as I pushed her round.. Gawd knows how I didn't hit anyone. Thought Warrington was bad but this was just crazy. Is it always this bad or did we just pick a bad day.
  12. PM Sent. Hope this helps.
  13. My parents old Favorit (G407 WTN - May 1st 1990) in moonstone was still kicking around in 1996 according to the DVLA My fist Favorit (K793 OBB) was off the road after barely 7 years. Wonder what actually happened to it. Was in good nick when I traded it at just undr 3 years old. But as I said long ago If VW hadn't taken Skoda over they still would be producing good original cars
  14. Food for thought. I don't know how many people are aware of this but from October/November it is proposed that as part of the driving test ALL drivers will have to sit a bike CBT. The rationale behind this is this will teach drivers the risks bikers face.
  15. Other Mobile op's are doing the same - they have been up to it for years. Mine sent me a card yesterday stating that minimum call charge is for one minute - but the internet browsing rate has gone down.... So if I dial an incorrect number I am charged for 60 seconds - this is taken from my allowance. Not in this update but I know of one operator on certain tariff's charging 40p per minute for 0800 numbers! Read your T's & C's - you may be surprised.
  16. When I lived down in the Fens back in 2005/6 ask TOM_VRS) I was innundated with then -so much I slept on the sofa for a few nights as they took hold in my bedroom. Anyway I was recomended a guy by the local council - he came out and sprayed the place (cost £40) Lets say I never saw a single ant for the 8 months before I sold the place. Contact your council - they will suggest something.
  17. If you do need something cheap B & Q will do that for one of the take home packs - but that said our last house had one put in by the previous owner due to a .... flood (?) - Was an insurance claim where they got the cash for a new bathroom and put a cheap suite in... Along with the cheapest plain white tiles. We were looking at changing it and Grahams seemed to be the best value. We had even chosen the suite but decided to move instead. Current house is a new build and the builder (bellway) bought for Porceleanosa (Sorry wrong spelling) Have to say the three sets (cloakroom, bathroom and en suite) are pretty good Roca stuff. and for a new house the bath even has handles...
  18. £0...... :thumbdwn::thumbdwn::thumbdwn: The less said the better I feel - but at least I still have a job.
  19. Steve,

Would have bought your Octy 2 If you'd PM'd me.

Driving a horrible Seat IBIZA - long story but my Octy II died - bought a cheap Vectra which was w/o by a badger, then a Fabia 1 60 bhp (zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz). Now driving a horrible Seat Ibiza which I got cheap (until my It job came along did 2 jobs - contracting (for the grand total of

  20. Just read this Monte Carlo rally firm Canonball 8000 go bust | This is Money Anyone got any more articles on this. I know Stuart_J was on this a few times
  21. Ask yourself these questions. 1. Can you afford it? 2. If the property market slumps (which it is) can you live with the place for a few years? 3. Payment wise (in the long run) will it work out cheaper than renting? 1. Is MOST important. If you are stretching too far walk away. Only you know if you are but if people thought like this we may have seen a smaller hike in property prices earlier on. But still amazes me this thread is still going. We did move in (eventually) in March 2007 and the house was such we could have continued living there for the rest of our lives (3 bed semi). However the prospect of high petrol bills meant it was cheaper to do a part exchange with a major builder for a larger, posher new build house near work (which we can still comfortably afford thanks to a fixed rate mortgage for 10 years) than stay where we were. To put it simply the mortgage was the same as the petrol bill. That said when the builder changed the part exchange to a chain break 1 week before moving, delaying the move by one month and putting us through extra strain, I do wonder why we did it.
  22. Suspect a clash of personalities here. Not good for the bank balance but its amazing how people are rated more on how they get on with others than what they do. Worst thing that can happen is staying in a place of work you hate. there will always be some aspects of every job/workplace you don't like, but when you really do not want to go to work - that is the time you should look at leaving your job - not this makes any difference in this case. Some agencies are - well don't take me there. but most important - keep smiling.
  23. Those of you who joined in the regular MSN conversations with the MG-Rover group 2 years ago may remember Dee. at the time she had been diagnosed with cancer, but was doing her best to live with it. she was only 32. Before I go any further Dee (Dionne) is not to be confused with Dee Lunn also known as Dee (who had a motorbike), who is very much alive. Dee passed away at 3am on 21st July. there are several threads on the MG-Rover.org site - the main one being MG-Rover.org Forums There is a just giving page set up for the Weston Park Cancer hospital. Justgiving - Lorna Brindley's Fundraising Page Myself and Vikki will be donating to this and would say anyone else who knew Dee do likewise.
  24. Looks like we (myself and Vikki) will be there - in the evening at least. As for the RR - my furby 1 would probably conk out (60 bhp officially). Would love to do it but with moving house on Tuesday - can't
  25. Like 1978-79 all over again. Hello Hyper inflation - goodbye savings...
