  1. this would appear to be the problem, I am now going away to blub like a baby :(
  2. Saw a Discovery locally with Y1 FUD, if you are Scottish it's funny ( a fud is a Scottish term for a ladies front bottom) Also local at the time (30 odd years ago) HAS 101N, (has 10 in)
  3. Update went back to basics, I managed to get fronts moving readily enough, just the surface rust from sitting idle for a few days impeding motion, the backs on the other hand not so much. nemesis thy name is oxidation removed OSR calliper & found the pads were sticking due to rust under the slider plates, also having a close look at the calliper it is quite a bad way, aluminium is not a metal, it's a fungus looks like a pair of callipers is on tomorrows shopping list
  4. I have tried pulling the master cylinder away from the servo as a way to check this is not happening, No difference I have even tried pulling the fuse for the ABS/ESP but still my brakes are still locked solid, the system is getting a good pressure test anyway
  5. Hi there, after having my Octavia estate come home from the MOT station requiring new rear brake pipe assemblies & a new front to OSR pipe, I set about replacing including making up the new pipe. Bleeding took a while & in the end I had to get a pressure bleed system as the kids were getting fed up pumping the pedal! I now have good firm pedal but the pressure is staying on, all 4 wheels are locked solid I have had the master cylinder off & checked over by a mechanic but he could find no problem. Getting beyond funny as without the car I have to get the bus & for a 7:30 start I have to get the 5:45 bus into town :(
  6. thank you very much mbames, found that same picture while doing a search a wee while ago, went out & located same bits on Oswald. I have taken the car out for a run & the turbo is working as it should again, but has been moved into the "keep an eye on" category I am hoping it can wait until October when I have a weeks holiday before I resort to stripping it down. while I was checking under the bonnet I found a small control box cable near the MAF sensor, it had a scotchlock connector attached to one of the MAF wires & anther cable connected into a loom connector, sticker on box says Art. Nr 20007, PBCLM4, quick search brings up a German page referring to golf mkiv, some kind of potentiometer. wil post a pic once I've worked out how
  7. I have no access to a fault code reader without going to somewhere that will charge at least £40/hr for the privilege :( also, being a newbie to anything with the present style numberplate layout or anything from VAG, I have no idea what MAF, MAP & n75 valves are far less where to find them :S don't get me wrong, I'm not a total dunce with a spanner, just not up to speed with "modern automotive technology", last timing belt I did was on the old ZX dismal my background is filling station forecourt repair & maintenance, with a couple of years of hydraulic hoses thrown in for good measure.
  8. Had a day trip down to Glasgow yesterday (around 370 miles round trip), all fine on the way down but on the way back I thought the car was lacking it's usual "oomph", it's like there is no turbo fitted, not as bad as my naturally asphyxiated ****roen ZX dismal but definitely lacking it's old performance there has been no bangs, clatters or clouds of smoke just lack of poke noticed when I put the foot down going over the Drumochter pass car is an '02 plate Octavia Estate 1.9TDI with 170,000 on the clock David
  9. there is one of the Judge Dredd Land Rovers in Dingwall, painted blue not yellow as they were in the film, I never have a camera when I see it though
  10. i liked that one, especially as I am a Scout leader
  11. it's an inconvenience but the metal can be replaced, you can't. glad you got the ok from A&E
  12. we get indian "Robert" or indian "Brian" or indian "Stephen" calling to speak to my wife about Sky, she eventually told them she didn't have Sky, which is true, the Sky account is in my name the ones from the debt management companies wouldn't take no for an answer & even called back when you hung up on them & weren't bothered by the fact we are registered with TPS, in the end we left the phone on the vacuum cleaner & left it turned on. CR Smith got told that if they did not stop phoning then if & when we were in a position to require a double glazing company then they wouldn't be considered, that was when they removed us from their list I have also found saying clearly "I have said no" to work on occasion
  13. don't have a TPS round here yes it's the most I've ever spent on oil but it's the first TDi I've ever owned so going on advice went for fully synthetic oil
  14. possibly, it's on variable servicing QG1 so if it's going to in there a while I may as well get decent stuff
  15. my wife managed to lock the drivers door so that it refused to open or unlock,I managed to open it but didn't know how at the time. I managed to replicate the fault by pulling the door handle before the lock had fully unlocked (if you know what I mean), I have found the way to fix this is, from the drivers seat, pull the door handle to open & then press the unlock button on the armrest
  16. I've just been to the motor factors for bits & pieces FRAM oil filter £3.12 FRAM air filter £5.50 COMMA 5ltr 5W-50 long life oil £38.04 FRAM fuel filter £11.20 all plus the usual 20% :'( I get a reasonable discount as my boss owns their unit, the list price for the oil is £50.99 plus vat
  17. didn't think i'd get the gear on it's own, have put the part number for motor through google & a couple come up on ebay, 2nd hand a tenner plus £7+ for postage, other new at £55 + £3 postage
  18. I've removed the air flap positioning motor from mine as it needs replaced, took lid off & had a wee look, the clicking noise is from the motor worm gear jumping teeth on the first nylon gear. it is a bit of a PITA to get to next question is, where do I get a replacement?
  19. I have just performed this test on mine & got the following result 4FA 00 & 318 i don't know what it means apart from the fact it sounds like someone is using a ratchet wrench in the passenger footwell :S
  20. hello all, just wanted to say hello before perusing the forum, will be asking a few questions in due course
