Oil quality/ service intervals from backstreet garage
That’s exactly what I mean for the 20k intervals. Not the short ones. Seems the only difference between the two is user related?

Oil quality/ service intervals from backstreet garage
I will run this by them and have a chat following the useful info provided. I fully trust my mechanics to install the correct grade oil for the engine, the main thing is for me to protect my turbo and keep things running well. I always over change my oil. I can’t help but feel as though these service schedules are simply designed to satisfy the fleet market, and that I should really be aiming to change oils more regularly now the car is in my hands. Similarly the timing belt intervals are huge on that engine. Seat advised the same. I’ll be doing it well in advance.

Thank you guys. So what we're saying is there is no difference between the oils they use for long/short service schedules, it's simply an approved lubricant to spec? (at main dealers)

So I guess my question is what are the gains of say the Castrol Edge Oil, vs a lower priced Oil that meets the same specs? I'm a cynical as they come but I would think the deterioration of a lower priced oil is faster than the expensive ones (even if SOME of that money goes on the branding).

I'm not sure - they have a huge barrel of the stuff - is it the sort of thing they would know? Very helpful thanks

Oil quality/ service intervals from backstreet garage
Hi, FYI I'm a member here having owned 2 Octavia's. I now have a Leon 2.0 CR Tdi but posting as I know this applies to the engine rather than the car and I'm already a member here! I have a lovely 16 plate Leon, which has been on dealership history/lease previous to my ownership, which has been 'Long Life' servicing and motorway miles. I'm now thinking about it's next service, and using the very reliable back street mechanics I have a good relationship with. As this car has more 'tech' than my old Octavia's, is there anything software wise that is likely to be missed by my old faithful garage? And, my main curiosity - they use a standard Oil for all their work. I know it's a bit neurotic, but my old 2.0 PD Tdi turbos suffered with age - Is it worth me buying the Castrol Edge oil (pretty sure that's the recommended oil for the engine) and taking it to them for servicing my CR Leon? I'm wondering whether it will actually make a difference down the line in terms of the Turbo as well as the engine as the car ages? This is something I have thought about, and will no doubt be slightly offensive to the nice blokes at my garage so I'd rather not do it unless I feel it's justified...? Thanks in advance
