  1. Thanks for all your suggestions, I'm now a month on from getting the new control box fitted and the wiring repaired the car seems to playing up again. First the rear window would not operate from the drivers console but now seems to work again, then just today the drivers door is not locking properly with the central locking. the button goes down when I first press the lock button but then pops up again, I then have to press the lock button again to make it work. Does this disable the deadlocks? I have a TOAD Ai606 cat 1 which operates the locking system, the lad at my local tyre place opened the car yesterday with the Skoda fob which automatically triggers the alarm as it suspects a break in, could that have messed things up? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I had the work done through a dealer so would I be correct in assuming it will be guaranteed? Thanks! Lew
  2. Cheers. I might just get it changed to be on the safe side and to keep both sides performing the same. Reet, where's that hammerite smooth green
  3. Well, I had the car into the Dealer and the found the problem to be caused by faulty wiring and a drivers control unit for the central locking. Dropped the car off on Wednesday and collected it on Friday Morning. All together it cost
  4. Thanks for letting me know. The corrosion clause in my warranty is worrying me though if the fault is caused by water ingress in the boot. Surely it won't happen to me again!
  5. Hello all! I had the passenger brake caliper replaced due to it siezing at the weekend and the discs and pads as a result. The garage stripped and cleaned the driver side as well but advised that the same could happen to that and if so I would need new discs and pads again. I am going get it done as soon as my wallet recovers from the first sting but I scared in case the same happens to the drivers side in the mean time. I'm even checking the disc temperatures after a journey to see if the drivers one is different to the passenger one. It was ever so slighty hotter. Am i just paranoid?
  6. Thanks! I'll go and check to noo! Is it just a case of disconecting the battery and cleaning it with some circuit board cleaner and a brillo pad or something? Actually, typical Scotland, it's chucking down so I'd better hang on. Thanks for the advice though. Much Appreciated!
  7. Just back from the dealer, they said it is probably a bad wire somewhere either in the door or boot, aparantly they are prone to failure and send the conrol unit loopy. Problem is I was just refused a warranty claim for my siezed brake caliper because of corrosion so it's not looking good warranty wise! They can't look at it until next week, so fingers crossed.
  8. Thank's for letting me know. Not a good start to the week for me! Hopefully the warranty I have with 'Warranty Direct' will cover me this time.
  9. Had nothing but bad luck this weekend like. First brake caliper siezed so needed that and new discs and pads on, then on the Sunday my central loocking decided to pack in. It is a 2002 Octavia VRS. I had a TOAD Ai606 fitted in August and all has been fine since, but, apologies to the people who installed it, I presumed it was this which had caused the problems. Basically the drivers door would not open with the central locking, and all the windows opened when the car was unlocked, this all sent the alarm going off at all hours. I went to the alarm installers yesterday only to be told it was the central locking motor which had failed and I should go to the dealer to have it checked. he disconnected the TOAD from the wiring in the drivers door and said to come back when the dealer fixed it. Since then the car windows have had a mind of there own, they open when i open up, then after being closed the rear drivers window decides to open when I'm doing 70 on the motorway and you get this wierd pressure in your ears like your brain is gonna get sucked out. All the time the motors in all the doors are making weird noises and windows twitching, I have to close the rear window with the switch on the rear door as the console on the driver's doesn't respond! I've got it booked in today at 2.30, but I'd rather not go into the dealer with my pants down, so has anyone got any views? I tried the key window stop reset but to no avail. Is the driver's central locking unit the main brain for the rest of the doors and windows? Your help is much appreciated! Thanks in advance.
  10. Hi there I had a similar problem recently with that noise, the steering felt weird sometimes as well, making the car feel unsteady. I had noticed a lack of power as well, didn't feel as quick but the rolling road proved my wrong, but maybe the sticking caliper didn't affect the figures, just the way it felt to me. Anyway, to cut a long story short, my caliper siezed on Thursday night, passenger side disc was boiling hot and the early sparkling alloy was covered in brake dust, that was only a 10 minute drive to the gym too on mainly 30mph roads. Got the car into the garage and it needed a new caliper and a set of discs and pads, car feels much better now and the mpg seems to look better, but I need to do a bit of driving yet to be sure. Hope you catch it early and don't need all that work, apparantly the heavy salting of the roads has adverse effects on the caliper piston and can cause corrosion, then total siezure, or that's the line I was spun anyway. Hope it's alright.
  11. Thanks for all your advice, it's much appreciated! My car is a 2002 Octavia VRS with 44,000 on the clock. Not sure what to do, I have phoned Skoda UK today to see where I stand with the age of the car etc and the part failure. I will probably just get the other caliper changed and forget about it to be honest.
  12. That is bad luck Hoddy. What were you supposed to do like! Thing is I only had my car serviced at the end of January this year and was advised that I would need discs on the next service but I suppose you wouldn't be able to see the caliper piston without stripping it. It's just bugging me! I will live and learn though, it's daft that skoda won't let you extend the warranty unless you specify it when you buy the car, specially as I bought it when it was nearly 3 years old anyway so couldn't.
  13. Cheers for the quick reply Stu, nice interior by the way! I looked at the smooth green at the weekend and it seemed like a brilliant match but I'm not sure if the temperature of the brakes will make it blister and peel off. I would love to be proved wrong though if any one has used it without this happening. I know I will have no joy with the warranty to be honest, I just needed to get it of my chest. The big pain is that I really wanted Jim at Star performance to do it and fit some grooved discs but it is about an hours drive away and I think it would have done more damage than good, also it was my first wedding anniversary on Saturday and I needed the car to take us on our romantic adventure. The lad at the garage (none Skoda) was brand new, he didn't charge any labour for Friday's diagnosis work and offered to strip and paint the caliper for free so that it matched. That's the sort of service you want! He has lubed the drivers side as welll just in case but advised me to replace it as it is very possible that it may suffer the same fate, and I would need new discs and pads again. Will just have to bite the bullet I reckon, can't afford to take the risk. Lew
  14. Hello All! Had a problem with my brakes on Thursday night with the passenger side brake binding on, the disc was so hot I could have cooked a breafast on it! I took it to the garage first thing Friday thinking it would be something simple only to find that my caliper has siezed and needed replacing along with new discs and pads! I wasn't too bothered about the caliper at first because I took out a Warranty with Warranty Direct which cost
  15. Aw right, can't make that I'm afraid, will still be in Newcastle. I think I need to give you a THANKYOU as well, reading the threads on the meet I see that you are going to see uncle Jim about your exhaust etc, but was it you that was supposed to get it fitted last week but the parts didn't come? If so, I was at Star when he phoned you and turned out that he managed to fit me into the slot your job had. So at least something good happened from your supplier letting you down, Cheers! http://www.briskoda.net/forums/images/smilies/B_thumb.gif Maybe I'll see you up there some time. Hope the new bits go on okay. Lewhttp://www.briskoda.net/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif
