  1. Hi all, I have wiper smear on my windscreen (Octavia II). The glare from oncoming headlamps is terrible. When I clean the outside of the screen with meths, the smear is gone, but returns once I use wash-wipe. I drained the washer bottle and refilled it countless times with every conceivable detergent, with hot water, even boiling water. I have changed the blades (twice). Nothing works. It seems my washer bottle is contaminated with something I can't get rid of . Any suggestions, short of replacing the washer bottle? Thanks, Bill
  2. Not that I could see before I threw it in the bin
  3. Would anyone know where I could get hold of a tailgate rubber strap for a MkII Octavia Estate? Mine snapped off recently and in this weather it's messy fingers when closing the tailgate. I imagine this is a widely fitted VAG part, but I have trawled the internet with no success Thanks in advance! Bill
  4. Thanks eddyt, that's what my local mechanic suggested, but his remedy was a new turbo. I'll have a scratch about for a reputable turbo expert.
  5. Hi Folks, For a few months now, my 2007 1.9 PD (122k miles) will suddenly experience a drop in power under acceleration. Usually in 3rd or 4th gear and at around 3,000 - 3,500 rpm. Although it's still drive-able, there is nowhere near the amount of power normally available. Switching the engine off and on again restores full power for a time. I have cleaned the intake/turbo with 'Revive' which did a good job of giving the engine some of its guts back, but the problem remains. Any suggestions? Thanks Bill
  6. Finally got round to changing the oil last month. 1,500 miles since then and really smooth gear changes have returned - changing the oil worked! Thanks Bill
  7. Hi All, 2007 Octavia 19.PD with 90k miles. First to Second gear changes becoming increasingly grinding / crunching, especially when moving away briskly. OK from Third to Second. No clutch slippage at any revs. Gearbox or clutch? Bill
  8. Hi all, After years of Saabs (Classic shape) and Mercs I have finally found my way into the world of Skoda with a 2007 Octavia 1.9 Tdi (PD) Classic Estate with just over 50k on the clock. Very impressed so far after two months of ownership, although a bit of a bouncy ride over humps. I was considering the sports suspension conversion with a set of nice alloys, but reading the forums suggests the jury's out on the benefits, especially to rural dwellers like me. Anyway, good to see lots of worthwhile advice on the forum.
