We use them at work, in a nutshell they go like the clappers and handle OK. Higher mileage ones seem to spend a lot of time in the workshop, the fuel consumption is appalling, they are cramped, uncomfortable and the driving position is very poor. Would I buy one? No, even if the road tax was free - at £495 it's a joke to be honest!

I had a bit of time to kill earlier today so searched youtube for reviews of the new Octavia. One thing that struck me was that in the two I watched the presenters both pronounced it Oct ar via. I have never heard it said this way before, in these parts it's an Octavia, (Oct ay via) with the "a" pronounced as in David. The question is then, is pronunciation of Octavia a regional thing or were these useless southern jessies that hadn't got the first clue about the car they were reviewing?

Lump in tyre wall - advice please
Baldgerry replied to dunc69's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Apart from all the above advice re safety, it is an offence to have a tyre fitted with "a lump, bulge or tear caused by separation or partial failure of the structure" - 3 points and £60 fine, and the reason for this is because it is a safety issue. -
Not got a clue I'm afraid but I would be thinking it's more likely to be the gearbox and would get it in to be looked at before something major went bang! Is it DSG or manual? Do the revs rise when you accelerate?

Clearly "Largs" should be alarms and for reasons best known to Apple, my ipad decided Largs was a more likely option than alarms?! How do I edit a post, there doesn't seem to be an option? "Edit" I can edit this post with the edit button between "Report" and "Multiquote" below but not on my original post, is there a time limit to edit?

The Autoglym tar remover fetched the glue off without too much fuss, it's a shame the dealers can't manage to get it off! I guess the saving grace is that by giving it a quick jet wash instead of a spotty 16 year rubbing furiously at the glue with a grit laden sponge that the paintwork is swirl free!

Awaiting delivery of my new Scout!
Baldgerry replied to paddypaws's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
It does seem a bit of a ha'peth of tar scenario, for the price of it you'd think either Skoda would include it or the dealer would tick the box on every car they order? -

Mine didn't come with Maxidot (2013 Scout DSG), although there is another thread on here that says Maxidot is standard with DSG :( -
Ta! It does doesn't it - shame it doesn't stay that way for long!

In my earlier thread rearding my poor dealer experience (http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/275425-poor-dealer-experience/) i mentioned that the car was covered in glue - this is what the glue spots looked like.... After a good few hours with Autoglym tar remover, Meguiars Ultimate Compound and NXT 2 Polish applied with a DA machine, the car looks a tad cleaner!

Cheers guys. It transpires that Maxidot isn't standard on DSG cars as I haven't got it! I'll have a look at VCDS or retrofitting Maxidot as an alternative.

When I lock/unlock the car the alarm makes an annoying chirp or two chirps. Is there a way of turning it off, I work shifts and don't like making noise coming and going at odd hours in the night. I did think construction and use regs had banned Largs making a noise to confirm setting/unsettling?

I did think about rejecting it but having spent 3 days last weekend trying to buy a car, I was losing the will to live at the prospect of going through it again. Added to that my trade in needs a service and MOT on the 20th of the month which I got away with on this deal but might struggle with as it gets closer, plus I'd taken a day off work etc etc I gave in and took it. Ad attached, you can clearly see at the bottom of the spec Sat Nav and Bluetooth. I'm more inclined to think they knew all along, as when I asked about it last weekend he was quite vague which was why I made a point of checking it today.

That's the same cr@p I was offered, how they can ever say it's a lifetime shine I do not know! I think that's their attitude, if you pay us £400 we'll clean it, if not you can make do with a jet wash! £400 in their dreams, together with the other 2 £399 options - tyre insurance and gap insurance. Thanks, but no thanks!

True, and in fairness it's looking like a lot of the expensive options, such as Xenons and Sat Nav will be standard anyway
