  1. it was free though tbh the rust isnt too bad but my welding isnt the best and a clean shell is a nicer option plus its a saxo lols at porsche ect getting outdragged by a saxo :p as for revving like mad ive got an 8200 rpm limiter on my omex
  2. yea thanks man nice to know that a bunch of people with some knowledge are there to help like i said ive done a lot of playing with cars just never boost and never a VAG car btw just if anyones curious now im on a computer this is my pug (soon to be a saxo as ive got a few spots of rust on the pug and picked up a mint saxo shell for free of a mate so saves the welding haha)
  3. i know ill get my head round it but i just like having something i can turn to if i get a bit stuck like map i can get sorted from advanced motorsport & engineering quite easily (work next door) and labour wise well im fairly sure i can do it myself just things like advice on what to get rid of and what to keep and what things are not had a chance to actually get the tools out on the car yet tbh and get started stripping it but as soon as i can itll be like erm whats this thing?? im confuuuused haha atm im slacking a bit :/
  4. the casing on the exhaust side cracked on my turbo so i need a full replacement budget wise im seeing what my options are but i have about 3k or just over realistically and dont mind spaffing a little more i know spending is needed ive done cars before and know the "take your budget and double it" effect ideally id like to see 270ish hp puts the vrs on par with my saxo at about 200bhp/tonne hopefully and should keep me entertained use the car daily and the odd play on the drag strip for anything else its a bit low to handle lol! and posts of spending someone elses money if i couldnt afford it i wouldnt be asking just dont have the knowledge of these cars and where to get parts from whos good ect ect ive had my head buried in the french scene for too long and just realised do everything yourself as youll end up doing it again anyway which brings me to ease of the conversion im fairly competent at mechanics when i know what im looking at but im not familiar with boost at all the vrs is the first turbo car ive worked on and so far all ive done is fit a decat pipe and a new maf lol my saxo has had every nut and bolt a forged engine new looms new suspension the torsion bars ect all sorted so im not shy to spanners really what im here in this thread for is advice of "try these guys for parts" and if im confused i can take a picture and go wtf is this sounding like ill be looking at a hybrid so where is good to go for that hopefully thats covered all of the above
  5. yes im aware im limited by that i was told on the first page of the thread that i am i had ordered a k04 001 but it turns out the one id gone for would probably fail (was off ebay) so returned it im now trying to find where to get one from that wont ruin the rest of the engine budget well its a case of how much is needed is what ill put into it the car owes me a ******* ton for what it is anyway allready so screw it why not go the whole hog on it
  6. i had to modify the one i bought (a miltek at silly cost) to fit my piper exhaust it does need to be a limiting factor as im not doing it all again
  7. means a different downpipe though.... rules that out as my downpipe is not even 1k miles old
  8. right then guys turbos been returned a refund has been sent to me and im back to square one knowing the absolute nothing i do where do i look for a decent turbo then? and what am i looking for in a decent one when it gets here as now i know there are **** ones i want to be sure before it goes anywere near my car if itll destroy the engine in no rush for this build now sorned and cancelled my insureance cars stashed in the garage and yea basically where do i start????
  9. aim about 800 for a car then and save the 200 for brakes rc5+ up front and decent fluid youll never have problems nothing worse than getting to a trackday doing 3 or 4 laps then needing half hour for the brakes to cool and work again
  10. ive got 215/40/18s on mine down all the way on my coilies and havent had any huge issues
  11. i agree the 16v vts and 106gti with more grunt is fun but lack of power in my vtr makes me have to try harder haha ive got a 106 rallye gearbox so better ratios the vtr box is useless again though lack of power
  12. 172s are fun my mate had one but hes recently gone back to a 196 for the fun factor (mind his 106 is a fully track ready car from a pretty much standard 172) im 6ft and size 9 i dont struggle in my saxo at all i dont see why people complain about it tbh ive got different seats in mine now but the standard arent that badly positioned on track a bucket is a very good mod so that solves if you do think theyre cramped
  13. id still look at a little fwd french thing my saxo has shown a lot of cars up on track its not about power its about how it handles and sticky rubber (used cheap off ebay) and some decent suspension (cheap off a guy who races) and itll outrun things like silvia s14s on a circuit like mallory park with only 100hp (got a video of that too haha!) makes me really want to get my 106 done so i can see what one goes like with over 220bhp/tonnein all honesty though i wouldnt bother with subarus ect if it breaks it wont be as cheapwhats a wrx motor fetch these days?a 106 you can fit a later 207/308 ect motor in if it goes bang and they can be picked up low mileage for about 2-300 quid and quite literally bolt in apart from 3 holes that need drilling so you can rag it and not worry about if it goes pop if something fails and if you stuff it you can find a shell on owners clubs for under 100 quid
  14. ever drove one in anger theyre great fun if not then a 106 gti is the same cheap thing underneath
