  1. Sorry - had problem uploading and ended up being uploaded twice! Can a moderator delete the original post, that had no attachment?
  2. Car show on Sunday 9th August @ Junction One, Antrim. Haven't been to this car show, but will be going up. Not sure of the cars on display, but should be good. Please see the photo poster for more details.
  3. I bought my Skoda Columbus and VW bluetooth unit on ebay. It was still a costly purchase, but cheaper than buying new... I checked the fitting guides via this forum and wasn't too difficult. Had to stick the GPS receiver in a different location - on the window frame, as the metal above and behind the space didn't magnetically stick.... I also fitted the bluetooth receiver unit, below behind the carpeted bit on the right-hand side of the passenger footwell.... One problem that I did run into was the airbag warning light continued to show after removal of the glove compartment and had to have the dealer clear it at the next service.... The sound quality was a lot better on the Columbus unit, compared the standard Stream MP3 head unit.
  4. Had a similar problem with my 2.0 VRS PD. Used to stall a bit on me when trying to pull away and got a bit embarrassing, as it felt as I was a learner driver.... When the turbo kicked in, there was tons of torque. When my injectors was replaced with the Skoda injector recall, it drove like a different car, pulls away a lot stronger and was more smoother at the lower rev range. Perhaps this may be the problem with your car?
  5. For all those in Northern Ireland and aren't away on holidays, there is the annual Motor and Sport Car Show on in Banbridge this year. It's held in Banbridge Enterprise Centre, Scarva Road Industrial Estate, Banbridge, Co Down, BT32 3QD. It's on Sunday 3rd August at 12 noon, but be sure to get down early enough to get someone to park. It's on the grounds of Banbridge Enterprise Centre itself, so parking will be outside of it. I was at the one last year, but can't recall being any Skoda cars, but excellent day out. The last show had American muscle cars, sports cars, modified sports cars, rally cars and some interesting cars.
  6. I have a 170PD and remapped via Shark Performance via their STS kit. It's produced great performance, but seems to have a downside - it seems to clog the DPF a lot quicker - 2 days, instead of minimum 5 days. I have tried driving it with gentle acceleration, but gather it produces more soot. I'm severely tempted to have the DPF gutted out, but worried that it may affect MOT here in Northern Ireland. The DPF is generally a pain in the backside on the PD engine. Has anyone else got their 170PD engine remapped and experienced a similar issue with their DPF?
  7. Had purchased one myself via Ebay. Found the same problem with the massive adaptor, especially when I got the bluetooth unit separately. I had to locate the adaptor unit above the air vent, which allowed the Columbus to fit in properly. If no audio, would probably think it's the connector. Try fitting the original Stream Head unit back in to confirm....?
  8. I have my 2008 Octavia VRS PD170 remapped by Shark Performance with the STS unit. I decided on the STS unit, as I liked the idea of not having the hassle to drive it someone to have it done. Plus, I would have the flexibility of re-uploading the ECU, if it ever got overwritten by the dealer, or downgrading to stock. The stage 1 remap has transformed the car into the way it should have been from factory. Flooring the accelerator from start will result in wheelspin (on dry tarmac - smooth or rough surface) in 1st and 2nd gear. It can also be refined enough, if you don't go hard on the pedal. 3rd is where it's the best (overtaking in the 30mph to 60mph) and there is tremendous torque, even on 4th and 5th gear! The car will drive smooth or rough, depending on how you treat the accelerator pedal. It just means adapting the way you drive - takes more getting used to not flooring it on 1st and 2nd gear to get the traction right, but 3rd can be floored. With the remap, I have noticed that he DPF light has come on much more often (due to my heavy right foot). However, I would think that easing off the acceleration when cold will help. If it starts to get problematic, I would consider getting the DPF gutted out, as generally on the PD engine, the DPF is a real nuisance, especially when I hardly do motorway driving. Hope this helps for someone considering getting the PD170 remapped or not... My experience has been positive.
  9. I have a 2008 Octavia VRS PD170 Estate. I have been running it with the BP Ultimate diesel, which has noticeable performance over the standard fuel. You don't feel it at first, but you notice it when you put the ordinary diesel back in.... I ended up getting the STS unit and performance map from Shark performance for convenience, rather than driving 1 1/2 hr to a reputable tuner here in Northern Ireland. Coupled with the Ultimate diesel, this car has some serious performance gains! It even spins the wheels for a large part of the rev range in 2nd gear (on dry tarmac), which it wouldn't have done before, normally only in damp or wet conditions. I feel more confident overtaking now in the 40mph to 60mph range, as it does accelerate a lot more quicker now, with that extra BHP and torque. They said their performance map is more smoother. It does take off better from standing still now and when the turbo kicks in, you can definitely feel it this time. The car is performing the way it should have been from the factory! I originally had reservations about the STS unit, but it is convenient and you do have the option of reloading back the original map and also immobilising the car with the immobilisation map....
  10. Mine is the same setup, with manual A/C controls, silver surround in my VRS. I decided to the black one, but really wanted the silver one too. However, once it was in, I think the black trim looks better with the back Columbus and black A/C controls, as it gives it a more seamless look.
  11. I would probably say EGR valve sticking, as I have a 2008 PD170 VRS and had the same issue in a similar rev range 1,500 to 2,000rpm at a steady speed, with a slight judder. Had happened shortly after the car got serviced by the dealer. Mine is 60,000 miles. It was doing that for some 3 weeks, even after long motorway driving, so know it wasn't a DPF issue. It's smooth accelerating over 2,000rpm. I had decided to give it a thrashing and accelerated hard to the red line and the judder started during the acceleration. Once it got to 3,000rpm, it really spluttered noticeably and a slight pop from the engine, then continued to accelerate hard to the red line. After that, it has been smooth in that rev range now....
  12. Funnily enough - I've a 2008 PD170 VRS and had developed a slight judder that you describe, shortly after getting it serviced, for a few weeks. Doesn't seem to be present over 2,000rpm, just in the 1,500 - 2,000rpm range when cruising at that rpm range. Mine isn't remapped (yet), so think it may be co-incidental with the mapping of your engine. My DPF light wasn't on has smooth idling at 950rpm. When the DPF is starts to get clogged (but light not yet lit), the rpm idles at 1,000rpm and acceleration isn't smooth. I don't that it's the DPF issue with this judder (on mine). I had thought that with mine, it could have been a sticky EGR valve and had decided to give it a very good thrashing - accelerating hard to red line. It did then splutter with a slight pop noise from the engine, then the power resumed surging. It hasn't felt anywhere near as bad now and is more smooth again in that rev range.
  13. Hi guys, When I said it was hit and miss for the voice control, it is fine for you guys, but being Chinese with a Northern Ireland accent, I have talk 'proper' for the voice control to understand. I am usually responded with, "Pardon?". I also realised that the address book is sorted differently compared to my iPhone contacts. I was used to Siri telling it to ring {first name, surname}, but with the Columbus I have to tell it to dial {surname, first name}. It's just a matter of getting used to the command it will understand. It's not Siri, so will have to adapt. Fan.
  14. It depends on how much you want to spend and that you want to replace the standard Stream MP3 head unit. I got a used (in pretty much new condition) Skoda Columbus from ebay. Plays CDs, DVDs, MP3's. Has analogue radio + DAB (requires antenna), Sat Nav. It is works with the 6 CD changer unit. A fascia trim is also required, as it slightly narrower than the standard head unit. I also had to purchase a VAG bluetooth unit and handsfree is brilliant. This also adds voice control to the Columbus, but results are hit and miss.
