Hello all, just wondered if any one can tell me if Shell Helix ultra VX 5W-30 (VW 507.00/504.00) oil is ok for a fixed service interval for my octy RS?

To the Ors, looks like we are both in the same boat ay mate? I really don't understand why the previous owner opted for variable when he was only gonna do 4k a year. Its better to have a more conventional oil for short journeys and when not being used daily than longlife and cheaper i believe. I'm going to change to fixed service soon whatever, then you know where you are. But even then i think upto 10k between oil changes is to much,i've always changed my oil about every 5k with all my previous turbocharged cars,i believe regular changes with for example, GTX magnatec pays in the end,if you are after increased engine and turbo life.Keep that oil nice and fresh, and the bits of debris and sludge out. Just that we can't afford to over service at a main dealer, so i get a private mechanic to do it.

Hello, yeah it was only serviced 3k ago 12 months ago,i know its done short trips but shouldn't be due yet i'm sure,must be a problem with the service indicator,or not been reset then??? :confused:

Hello TaviaRS, i didn't get any service receipts with it i'm affraid,so unfortunatly i can't check the price of the oil,i'm gonna contact the dealer about it the next few days,but i know they will say its service is not not due yet and just reset the display,whereas i can do that myself.

Hello Manny, my service books got 'Set to Variable' written it thats the only thing? My display just comes up service and flashes for a bit then stops but there is no miilage till service shown,not even 0? :confused:

Yeah probably will do mate but they will probably only reset it,i can do that myself. Main concern is that its clocked and is actually due a service, 12.5 k in nearly 3 years is low,and i've been told its easy to clock a digital dash. But it is mint, i think its ok. Just got a suspicious mind!! :orb_squoo

No i'm affraid not, come from Kent area though,could of been quite easily!

Sounds Like I'm gonna start making lots of people worry!! Maybe its a feature specific to silver octy vrs's ay??! Can i congratulate you on having good taste mate!

It says " Next inspection service due at 29650 or 10/11/06 whichever comes first or following Service display" in my service book. And now my display is telling me to get it serviced, a tad early i think?!!! Weird ay?? :(

Hello just wondered if anyone could help? I Brought my Octy vRS 1 week ago From a Skoda dealer. Its done 12600 mls,and coming up to its 3rd b.day,its been set to variable servicing,last service was a year ago at 9650 mls. Next service is due then in a years time or 29650 mls whichevers first. The problem is that today the service warning started flashing on starting for approx 20 secs? Any ideas? :confuse:
