  1. I am just getting a new spare tyre for my fabia, and was looking at the ones on my car, and the fronts appear to be 87w and the rears 83w. Should I have both types on my car? are they the right way round? (ie 87w on the front and 83w on the back) I bought the wheels and tyres fitted new originally, and put them on myself and never noticed the two different weights when I put them on so it was lucky I got them both paired up. The car has alloys, and my spare will be a standard steel wheel What should I go for as a spare? 83w or 87w? Thanks Damon
  2. This is extremely offencive to all of us who have undergone the years of training and qualifications to carry out such jobs
  3. My Stepdad took his Daimler to a specialist Jaguar garage to have an MOT/service, and they said they could waxoil the underneath for him. So he had it done, and we have got the car back and upon washing it for tommorow, we have found that there is black stuff all up the underside body work, and the windows and body will not clean at all (very smeary and greasy) Step dad is absolutely fuming as he takes much pride in his car, and we think we will take it back Should the garage sort out this mess, or will we have to use more forcable action? Damon
  4. My Fabia is the base model, so had a very, very poor horn that was so bad I just couldn't use it lol
  5. Hi, Tried to fit a stebel horn to my Fabia today, and I've absolutely mullered the car (the horn is undamaged) I can't get crimps to fit the wires, and the mounting bolt that came with the stebel I have now got sheared off in the whole which fixes the bracket of the original horn to the car. also, what is the small electric sensor type probe that is above the black grille piece that is removed to get to the horn? I have absolutely mullered that as well thinking it was a tab to get the grille thingy off Damon
  6. But this is crazy though So what they're saying then is that I cannot be trusted to load a trailer with the correct weight suitable for the car? I pressume then anyone who has stopped me will have access to my vehicle's towing data, and they would then check the MAM of the trailer. But what if its one of those old shed built wooden trailers with no data plates? Do they then just go for an overall weight, or have they got a system for them as well? My step dad refuses to believe any of this, but I can't find anything anywhere to show him Damon
  7. So am I right in saying if I get caught with an unbraked trailer with a MAM of 750kg (which they all seem to be) and I know my car can only pull 450 unbraked, regardless of anything in it, then that is wrong? There is no problem with my liescence, its going to be the car, as you say, that is the sticking point
  8. Hi George I come under the 1997 rule, and I heard that it can only be unbraked (which is insane) but I heard that as a rumour, and it has no mention on the official websites. I checked my liscence and it was car and trailer not over 3.5 tonnes. I might as well not bloomin bother. a trailer was my last option as nI cannot afford to insure a van. I mean who makes these complicated silly rules. It's just a joke Next they'll be making us youngsters pass a wheelbarrow test
  9. Oh goodness I am totally lost now Its just some old trailer I found on ebay thats looks like it will do the job. Probably just knocked up in someones shed. So can I not just hitch up any old trailer knowing that the combined trailer/load weighs no more than 800kg? The only law I know is that the totally gross weight of car and trailer combined cannot exceed 3.5 tonnes for me Damon
  10. Thanks for the data, Mike Funny none of it is in the user manual (unless im being blind) I've found a trailer that looks suitable. Surely though I only need to be aware of the weight my car will tow? I can just load the trailer sensibly, knowing roughly how much it weighs empty. The trailer I have found is on the heavier side, so I know just to put lightish things in it like say a cement mixer rather than a dozen sacks of sand Damon
  11. Thank you for the advice Sorry, I meant a small trailer to tow behind a car My car is a Mk2 I shall check the plates on the car
  12. Hi all. I'm thinking of buying a small car trailer, and I wondered what the maximum weight my car can tow (I can't seem to find this information anywhere) My car is a 1.2 (70bhp) Fabia estate I'm more concerened about the engine size, rather than the car itself Thanks Damon
  13. Commercial insurance is considerably more, at any age I have a fabia estate, and that is as good as a van with all the seats folded down. I can fit a standard Euro pallet in it as well Damon
  14. Wellies Reflective jacket De icer blanket spare wheel Assorted lingerie (still) Some empty boxes Some rotavator parts Some water proof clothing To name but a few things :p
  15. Hi all, I've got a tracker in my car left over from an ikube insurance policy, and they have told me they don't want it back. SO my question is, can it still be used as a functioning tracker? if so, who turns it on or has control of it? Do they need codes? It wasn't an insurance where they track your driving, just a red hours one -infact they said it was the same GPS tracker thats normally fitted to expencive cars for tracing the car if its stolen, and that was a selling point of the insurance. So would this still work as a car tracker if the car got stolen? Its all still wired in, I just don't know who/if there is anyone who could turn it on if the car did get stolen Cheers Damo
  16. Hi all, I know there have been a few topics on this already, but the horn on my Fabia is so girly I just cannot use it, and the Stebel Nautilus seems to be a common one to fit. I have a MarkII Bog standard Fabia (2008) should it be easy for me to fit? Or should I get someone who knows what they are doing to fit it? I have found this one: http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1423.l2649 The item price seems a bit reasonable, but the postage brings it up to a more sensible price Thanks Damo
  17. It's probably why it has sat there for the last 5 years or so as so far everyones been too scared to touch it! It's tyres are flat, and its covered in green algae and surrounded by wooden pallets Oh wow, thanks We're renting a warehouse on the estate, so I shall contact the landlord. Theoretically speaking, though, if this thing has sat there since a few years ago, when we know that the guy left it there when he handed back the unit, if he never 'officially' handed over the van (not likely) then surely if I were to go through this DVLA process, and possesion was handed over to me, then could I just take it? But I suppose I would have to be the owner of the land to be able to do this, so I'd have to get permission from the landowner? This has got me thinking now - I'm very intrigued (or perhaps I am just being silly here) I wouldn't want to scrap the van, I'd want to get it back on the road for myself Damo
  18. Thanks It's for an old Transit left at our new place that the previous tennant has 'left behind' Damo
  19. Hi, Does anyone know if it is easy/reasonable/even possible to get a key made to fit a vehicle that the doors are locked and that I have no key for? Don't worry I'm not a car theif - its all in good intentions :p Damo
  20. Thanks for that Is there any parts that I will require for this mend? Also, will I be alright just to pop that cap back on and it will be ok? Damon
  21. ooh dear, that doesn't sound good! Yes, it is a FabiaII The water was coming out of this front right hand corner of the engine bay, straight onto the floor. Damon
