  1. I have also had this. Have you checked your fan belt if its too slack or worn out your battery might not be getting charged properly! It is an electric pump on the power steering so it could be that the battery is weak because the fan belt is slipping (so not turning the alternator properly) and because of this, the power steering pump isnt getting the power it needs. But that said its usually the cold weather that knackers batteries.
  2. Well when you add on all of the other problems I have had with it its the straw that broke the camels back! I had less expensive problems with a 1987 Polo!
  3. Doubt it but it should be easily fixed either by tightening it or replacing if it is worn out. There should be some bolts you can loosen to adjust the tightness but I can not describe where they are. Also, from what I recall you have to hold it in place whilst you re-tighten the bolts. Note if you dont do anything about it you may end up with a flat/broken battery or worse (happened to me!)
  4. Check underneath that the steering rack is not leaking! I had a leaky stearing rack that was causing the same symptoms only that cost £330 plus vat just for the part from a specialist part dealer (the dealership was going to charge loads more plus even more for labour and they misdiagnosed the fault and they charged me for their misdiagnosis!). We did the job ourseleves and it fixed the problem. It is still a real pain that you cant get to the fluid reservoir without removing the battery!
  5. Mine is fully topped up with the correct stuff bought from the dealers but I always get this when it is cold weather. I am so fed up with this stupid warning I am thinking of disconnecting the beeper and the bulb. The dealers have never been any help to me on this one. Whats the flipping point of a warning if you cant determine what the problem is!? I am so disenchanted by my experience with Skoda that I am thinking of trading it in for something that works in cold weather without moaning at me!
  6. Have you checked the power steering? I had this and then the power steering started to fail when turning corners. The problem was caused by the fact that almost all the fluid has leaked out through a faulty seal on the steering rack. The new rack costs
  7. I guess this depends on the model. I had this problem yesterday. I think (hope) it was caused by the screenwash pump being frozen. I looked in my manual supplement and it reconed fuse 15 or 16 (I think it was) was the screenwash one so I checked it and it had blown. I replaced the fuse and then it was okay again. For the fuses on my one you have to open the drivers door and then remove a plastic panel on the edge of the dash (the bit that is covered up when you close the door). Be careful not to lose any metal clips though as they can fly off when you remove the cover. To put the cover back though, you'll need to make sure that all the clips are on the cover and then align them with their holes if you dont you'll bend the clips!
  8. You might find that it is the tube to the rear wash wipe that has split or broken somwhere I had this problem (I think it was caused by a severe frost) and it was causing a damp patch on the rear passenger footwell every time the rear wash was used. The only solution was to replace the entire tube from the back to the front with somthing a bit stronger than the original rigid plastic one. I fixed it myself. To be honest my car has has so many annoying faults like this and I have found every dealer that I have used to be utterly useless at diagnosing basic faults correctly but excellent at charging me for their misdiagnosis!
