  1. the company are enforcing it due to abuse of the system. i was considering a PCP/PCH but my mileage averages out around 33,000 a year.
  2. thanx for the links but no joy :( the first link looked promising as lots of spec but as per usual no cruise. as i mentioned in my first post, i am amazed that Skoda don't see it as a standard requirement.
  3. So, my employer is scraping the company cars and giving us a car allowance. Great i thought i can get an Octavia! but....with an allowance that means i have £12k to spend they have stipulated the car must be renewed when it's 5 years old! this has meant me looking for a car with a 65 & upwards plate and one thing i need it to have is cruise control - this is where it gets difficult. Looking through a well known online car trading site, not one of the Octavia's in my price bracket has cruise control - i am amazed! Seeing as it's perfectly designed for mobile workers etc why haven't Skoda adopted cruise control as a standard? So now i'm having to look at probably an Insignia :(
  4. hello all I have a JVC KD-DB42 Dab unit with a Kinetic DEGA-4001 aerial and it’s been working great since last July, but the battery had to be disconnected at the garage due to the dreaded water ingress and since then, no DAB. Everything else in the unit works fine (usb, AM/FM, cd etc). Now when this happened before i just had to reset the unti and search for the stations but not this time. As soon as i follow the instructions i.e. select DAB then press the <<>> button to start the search, the screen goes blank. I don’t even get the “No Signal” just a blank screen. i've done the reset option, disconnecting it, leaving it disconnected etc. and i got to wondering if there's something that should have been done when the battery was disconnected - not sure what but i'm grasping at straws now!! I can’t see how it's the aerial as it would still have No Signal. Really stumped – Halfords were no help. I took in the unit to see if they could connect it up to see if it is the unit but they don’t have DAB capabilities!! they can only demo the other features of the units!! any guidance or advice would be most appreciated – i really want my 6music back!!
  5. hi i;ve had the jvc db42 fitted and got the Halfords fitter to redo the aerial as he had put it horizontally instead of vertically and it worked brilliantly for 2 days and then nothing i have the HAL 1 type aerial). All i get is No Signal for all dab channels, but for the 2 days ot worked i had plenty to listen to and no drop out. Has anyone got any ideas as to why this is please? thanks
  6. well i may have the cause of the groaning. I forgot to mention that the noise only really started after I had the sump replaced (which required the engine to be lifted to do this job). Now a mechanic took the car out for a spin to trace the noise and he thinks it's where the engine connects to the cars fixing mounts. He said it sounds like there's no grease to stop the 2 parts grinding and it might have happened when the Skoda mechanic lowered the engine into place (he may have forgotten to grease the mounts). Now I have explained this to the Skoda garage that did the sump work (Wings of Peterborough) and they said they'll inspect it but if it's not anything to do with the wrok thwy carried out they wil charger me 1/2 hours labour + vat. The thing is, if they claim it's not as a result of the work they carried out, how do I know that is the case? THe sump job they did was a classic - they told me that the time i was quoted to do the job was out by 2 1/2 hours as they haven't done a sump change on a superb mk1 before! They didn't charge me for the extra labour though as it was their mistake. So, i suppose what i'm looking for is any guidance or advice when I take the car in this Friday. Any ideas??
  7. yup it;s true my car has started groaning! It only seems to do it when I turn left or bump down the kerb when i'm reversing off the driveway. It sounds like a creaky floorboard and was wondering if anyone might have an idea as to what it could be?
  8. Thanks Supurbia, but can i ask if you're referring to the oil cooler? my friend has had another look at the sump plug and there is a crack right where the helicoil is (i think that's what you would call it!) It's right where the sump plug screws in - the crack starts in the hole and it's about an inch or so long. My original idea was to weld it and seal it off and for future serving use the suction option via the dip stick tube, but that's not feasible as it's aluminium and can't be done without removing the sump - which i want to avoid as it's a big job and expensive (apparently). if you can offer any more suggestions i would really appreciate it
  9. Hi All I;ve found pool of oil under my car and it looks like the Oil cooler is leaking. The breather hose runs along the bottom left of the engine bay to the oil cooler. I suspect it's the oil cooler leaking as it's caked in oil or could it be something else? Also, it looks as though the oil sump might need changing - i'm going to ask someone if they can check whether it just needs a new washer and/or plug (as it's leaking from there as well). If i do need to change the sump, is there an easier way to do this than hiring a crane to lift the engine? Also, any ideas as to how long it would take to remove and change the sump as i'm thinking of asking a friend to do it (he works on cars but isn't familiar with Skoda's). I might take it to a garage if it's not too expensive but my friend said it could be a 5 hour job and i can't afford 5 hours + parts at garage rates!! thanks
  10. Hi all I've finally decided to replace my Symphony tape system with a JVC KD-DB42 unit as i've had enough of listening to FM and cd's and got myself listening to 6Music at home so thought i'd do the same in the car! The first problem i've encoutered is how to get the old unit out! It has the 2 thin slots under the AIM & TP buttons. Also, has anyone had any experience of fitting a DAB system with the usb etc? I really don't want to lose the control functions on the steering wheel and i'd prefer not to part with £50+ to have it fitted (but i can see me having to do this!) Any help would be very gratefully received!
  11. HI All i've got an 03 Elegance Diesel PD130 and the tyre pressures set at 32 all round. Should I increase these to 38? I've noticed that since I had them changed after an accident (don't ask) they're set at 32 and seem to feel a lot more bumps
  12. Hi all so i've had the Brake Failure check manual warning come on first thing in the morning for the last 2 days (although the brakes seem fine). I thought i'd check the brake fluid but I can't see if it needs any adding but I found on the top next to the cap a yellow disc with a slot in it. I used the key to turn it and it came off. I've puit it back as I have no idea what it's for! I thought it might be a way of seeing what the fluid level is. As I want to check whether it just needs fluid adding, if it does need some, is it possible for me to just buy sme and top it up? (i have no idea when it comes to servicing cars - as if you couldn't tell!) If I need to take it to a garage that might be a problem, as i've just found out I have to go away on business tomorrow and I need the car to get me down south for a couple of days!! Any suggestions??
