  1. Hi Paul, I've not been on the forum for a while but would love to come to this. I think I'm back from hol's on the 19th so if I don't make it you'll know I got the dates wrong. Look forward to meeting everyone ian #1radioman
  2. I have really enjoyed watching your vids and must admit that I would love to do that in my Octy vrs 2001 but swmbo would kill me if I spent her gin allowance on my car! you give the impression that you really enjoy yourself, it must be great, now where's that lottery ticket?
  3. Hi Andy, that sounds pretty logical to me, it's getting so bad with the lights that people think i'm a mobile disco ! Almost forgot to thank you for your time and trouble, cheers mate, Ian.
  4. Hi Peeps, I could do with a bit of advice, a few months ago my central locking packed up, no problem I can still work everything from the key but just recently my interior lights and puddle lights have started flashing whenever I open the door as if it is sending out an sos message and at the same time there is a clicking noise coming from the dashboard, this is one problem I have never heard of and wonder if the central locking problem could be linked to the interior light problem? Any help would be appreciated. |Ian :S
  5. I had mine running on 225bhp and 231 ibs of torque and it was great, I thought I would want more but I never did, in fact due to a computer problem I have had to have the car returned to standard setting and boy do I miss that torque. Good luck with your it looks like you have a really well looked after motor there.
  6. one pair of Falken fk453's on the front, they are so much better than the evergreen's that were previously fitted, I could feel the difference as soon as I drove the car on the road, certainly wouldn't hesitate to buy them again.
  7. Private roads or tracks! all well and good it eliminates danger to members of the public but unfortunately our dearly beloved and overworked criminal friends tend to commit their crimes & and therefore get chased through built up highly populated areas so chasing another car on an empty private road or track would be a waste of time as for warning the public that pursuit training will be taking place in a certain part of town on a certain day at a given time, think about it, will the streets be empty or will there be a large crowd of onlookers, mostly youthful and probably up for a game of chicken or two If you are going to have a police pursuit in real circumstances then the training needs to be in real circumstances otherwise you will never minimize the risk to the public as for a warning what do you think the 120db sirens and the multitude of flashing lights are for . I appreciate that a minority of persons such as someone who may be both deaf and blind will be at a disadvantage in such a situation but as the system stands it is as safe as it is can be at present, I am sure with advancements in technology such as a warning device that would vibrate to alert the above mentioned disabled person to the oncoming danger, that things will improve. Maybe a change in Police tactics and the introduction of new technology will eventually bring pursuit involved injuries or fatalities down as far as they can possibly go.We can but hope.
  8. well I have got the car back today after 3 weeks in the garage and after checking the sensor banks, fitting a new cat , replacing a split head gasket, getting the head skimmed and doing a whole list of work on the car the emissions fault turned out to be a bad map, £1105 worth of bad map when all parts and labour are taken into account, I am also 45bhp down because the ecu has been reset to factory settings so I guess I'll just have to save some money and try and get a proper map next year. One benefit is after all the work that has been carried out over the last 15 months I have a car that mechanically is nearly new and the bodywork is rust free so I will get a few more years out of it yet, only done 76k from new and I do less than 5k a year so I might sell just before it reaches 100k , or not !, anyway I should get a chance to go for a run in it over the next 2-3 days and then I can decide how the 25% drop in power is going to affect my driving style.
  9. you really do sound fed up, it'snot your mrs's fault but she is the nearest person to take it out on, do any of the warning lights have the the same sensor group in common?remember sometimes it does good to have a fresh pair of eyes to have a look at the problem. If you are wondering what i'm still dong up at this God forsaken time, too much pain to sleep, Dr's are going to put me on methadone and see if that reduces the pain, I always thought that was just for heroin addicts but apparently it helps with pain as well. Have you had a chat with the lads on the forum to see if they have any suggestions? Good luck mate I think I shall go to bed now !
  10. sounds more like flying saucers than your car Jon, any sign of water ingress near the fuse box, had that in my RS2000 once took ages to find the cause, hope you get it sorted quickly bud. and buy the mrs a nice bunch of flowers for all the bad moods you've been in!
  11. Whats up J, ? you love your care you don't want to have to repair the drive shaft then take it to the dentist???? :peek: . I got a message to say the garage had sent my heads off to be skimmed and the firm had gone on hol's the next day, I hope they had a 'kin' good time, meanwhile I have to wait an extra week I always recommend that when I am annoyed by something that medicine is taken, in my case I find that a substance very much the colour of cold tea is of great help, the more you have of it the less important the problem becomes, it's not that rose tea or lemon tea or any of that other rubbish stuff, no this is Scottish tea, sometimes known amongst the working classes as scotch, but don't be fooled like my wife once was before I convinced her otherwise, it is just cold tea but it remedies a myriad of problems as I am sure those nice Scottish people will tell you.
  12. well I've bitten the bullet , borrowed a grand and told the garage to get on and repair the head gasket, skim head, new timing belts, new cat, plus oil, anti-freeze engine flush filter etc etc etc, should get it back next week i just hope that I can fall in love with it again as much as I was before because I loved driving it before this latest mechanical setback but I know full well that if that old feeling does't return then I will be hankering for a new car and that would be a shame.
  13. what I want to know is; how did you manage to ghet your car to float in the air like that ? there's not a jack in sight !
  14. Ok Paul I take on board what you are saying and I will check around for someone who can do this locally. Thanks for the info. Ian
  15. Hi Paul, yes the parts I replaced were genuine VAG, there are no faults showing on a computer check now so it will be down to a mixture of physically checking each possible cause as well as continuous diagnostics at the same time and gradually eliminating each possible cause as we go. Thanks for getting in touch with me. Ian
  16. Hi guys, my mk1 octy vrs (225 bhp) has failed it's last 3 mot's because of it's emissions which are currently ; co 1.350 hc 150 & lamba 970, the car has had a new cat new front and back lamba sensors ,fluid temp sensor, thermostat, fluid systems flush, new antifreeze/coolant. I was wandering if anyone else has had similar experience with their car and what they found they cure to be as I don't want to spend a fortune in labour costs with the garage trying out dozens of possibilities before they find the right answer. Thanks in anticipation of any help you may give me Ian
  17. I really appreciate all the advice and time you have given me, I'm not working so after the thermostat I will save for 2 new front tyres and then the terraclean, should have the cash by the next mot. Again thanks very much you have been a real help. Ian
  18. I haven't heard of a "Terraclean", but I'm sure I can google it , how much did yours cost just to give me a ball park figure please mate and thanks for the reply. Ian
  19. Thermostat has packed up again so that needs replacing next week, replaced both vacuum hoses to the brake servo, need to find out why the car fails the mot on emissions every time, I've replaced the cat, use high grade petrol, use injector cleaner on a regular basis , it gets a damn good thrashing to blow out any crap before each mot, but still it fails on the emissions . I am stuck as to what to do next, it has been re-mapped to 225bhp and drives beautifully , any advice guys would be welcome, I do have a few months before it needs testing again.
  20. I bought 100w halogen rally bulbs for my mk1, bright as anything and only £8 each, damn sight cheaper than the cree bulbs which i doubt are legal , having read the advert for them I didn't see any euro compliance certificate number or even a UK one and if they are legal and as good as they suggest then why haven't all the car mags featured them and done glowing (forgive the pun) reports on them. I would hold off on buying them yet.
